PUTTIN’ THAT SMACKDOWN…What Happened Last (Tuesday) Night (Oct. 3rd, 2014)
It’s interesting what a
change of perspective does. Having
started to settle into my new digs, I sat down Friday night to partake of this
week’s SmackDown. It was like looking at it with new eyes
almost. I felt as if I was watching it
for the first time, in a way. For
whatever reason, I could look upon it with more objectivity. Not really feeling
good or bad about it but I was simply able to watch it for what it was. I can’t say how things will progress overall
but what I could clearly gather is that the WWE carries on, for better or for
worse.
We open with John Cena
still after Seth Rollins for fucking up his Christmas at Night of Champions. Understood,
yet if Cena wants a piece of Rollins then he has to go through Dean Ambrose, by
default. Of course, Ambrose presents
himself to make this very case. Fucked
up Christmas or not, Rollins is Ambrose’s bitch. Well, Cena’s been in the game
long enough to know how to defuse a tense situation and calls a truce. No point in fighting, right. ‘Cause that’s what “They” want us to do, is
his basic point. Nevertheless, Ambrose
keeps making it clear what’s his i.e. Seth Rollin’s ass.
The Authority
representatives in the form of Dad/Korporate Kane, Randy Orton and “Mr. Money
in the Bank”, Seth Rollins then take this opportune moment to stroll out and
question Cena’s and Ambrose’s allegiance.
They say Cena’s been talking shit about Ambrose behind his back. Saying he’s psycho for show and his feet
smell and all sorts of other crap. So
you know what, the best thing they all need to do is have another tag-team
match with Dad and Orton. That’ll solve
this once and for all.
With the Main Event
settled, we move on to the first mid-card match with Dolph Ziggler and Sheamus
squaring off against The Miz and Damien “Mizdow”. I can’t really say what’s to come of these
match ups. They may merely be the filler
that they come off as but that’s not to say they’re not entertaining. Both Sheamus and Ziggler put on solid
performances as do The Miz and Damien Mizdow in all their intentional
lameness. Watch or go to the restroom,
it doesn’t really matter but you’re time won’t be wasted if this is what you
came to see. Sheamus and Ziggler get the
win in the end.
Next, we have some Divas
action that was actually promising. Naomi
is pitted against Paige for shits and giggles. I have to give it to Naomi,
though. I didn’t know she was so
athletic in the ring. She had some
pretty cool moves. Not to mention that
she didn’t need back up either, since Paige came out with her “new best friend”
in Alicia Fox. Even for all the athleticism, Paige manages to get set-up for
her PTO and Naomi taps out. Alicia gets into the ring
to congratulate her new buddy and AJ Lee decides this is the perfect time to make
an entrance and scampers her psycho self into the ring to pounce on Alicia as
Paige bails out to the commentators’ table.
After that, The Big Show
does his diplomatic duty and apologizes to the Russian people for the rude handling
of the Russian flag that transpired back on RAW.
He is humble and conciliatory until, Lana and Rusev saunter out to demand a
personal apology as well.
Understandably, Big Show sees no reason to do that but Rusev sees plenty
of reason to get into the ring and beat Big Show with his flagpole and finishes
that off with a foot to the face. Big Show skips some numbers while counting to
10 and thusly loses his composure ala Peoples Hernandez from the remake of Shaft.
Seeing that they’ve done
it now, Lana and Rusev make a hasty retreat.
We then segue into the
next tag-team match with The Usos and SlatorGator with a Hornswoggle fit in
Gator costume and The Bunny in well, Bunny costume on the sides. This was a fine bit of comedic relief with
The Usos executing splendidly. They even
managed to synchronize their final blows. Very impressive. Needless to say, The Usos pick up the win
with an assist from The Bunny.
Cesaro and the returned
R-Truth have at next in a very perfunctory match that shows us that Cesaro
means business and has his sights on gaining and retaining the Intercontinental
Championship. His showings are making it seem it could be very possible in good
time.
And then we are brought to
the night’s Main Event with Dean Ambrose and John Cena up against Kane and
Randy Orton for a third time. Well, I have to say that this was a very well
choreographed match. Ambrose and Cena
demonstrated that they could work well together if need be and Orton and Kane
showed that they know what they’re doing also, which they should. If they don’t have a handle on it by now,
they never did. Yet, tonight was an instance where the wrestling didn’t so much
matter as for the quest for Rollins’ ass.
Who’s gonna earn the rights to kick it?!
To get an idea, Rollins decides to walk out just as things start to get
good in the ring and Cena, surprisingly, is the one hot to give chase. Granted, Ambrose had his hands full in the
ring at the time but Cena shows what his prime directive is, leaving Ambrose
to get double-teamed. Cena returns
eventually but not before Ambrose gets trounced. Though they get the win by disqualification, it doesn’t make a good case for loyalty in this partnership. I get the feeling the dissension will only
grow between these two. Guess we’ll see
come RAW.
See You Monday...
