SmackDown Could Get Something Started...

Image
Happy Valentine’s Day, Enthusiasts! Regardless of your status, I hope it’s a splendid 1 for you.   Have some fun one way or another.   As for tonight’s SmackDown, looks like we have some playful hijinks awaiting us with Otis finally getting a “date” with Mandy Rose.   This has been done tastefully so far, hopefully they can keep it that way because we all know how far downhill this sort of thing can go.   The WWE is not known for its taste.   Quite the contrary actually but, seeing how there’s competition and awareness in the mix now, they’re being forced to up their game. Surprisingly enough, RAW has been holding up its side of the proverbial bargain and so SmackDown is in the “keep up” position by default.   That may be why the Ladies are leading what’s floating around for tonight’s show.   Outside of the Otis & Mandy Rose story, Bayley will have a box with Carmella for the Women’s Title.   I have to say, ole ‘Mella has earned her keep.   She may be about a buck-fiftee

SmackDown Says, "Happy Holidays!..." as They Deal with TLC Fallout...

Happy Friday & Happy Holidays, Enthusiasts! How are you doing?   Well, I hope a lot of you are like me and have pretty much checked out for the Holidays.   I gotta head out of town tonight.   Gonna see if I can catch the live feed but if I can’t, I’ll be catching up with SmackDown over the weekend.   RAW will definitely be picked up on the flip when I get back in town.   I suggest you all feel free to allow the usual routine to slip as we cater to friends and family during this festive time.   Let’s remember where the true priorities lie, shall we.   Tis the season and all that. Anyway, RAW wasn’t bad this week.   It did what it did and it felt as if people were given some room to breathe, so to speak.   It seemed looser and freer, like it got let out in the seams a little bit.   Perhaps the WWE have decided to ease up during this Holiday time as well.   I don’t see it hurting.   The roster has gotta be kinda checked out too.   That’s what the Holidays do. So, for

Happy Friday, Enthusiasts! Hope it ’ s just as awesome as it can be.   So, let ’ s  get right to it and look at the docket for tonight.   There ’ s not much advertised for SmackDown , actually but it being a Go-Home Show, we can expect there to be some excitement.   I ’ m sure NXT will make itself known at some point.   And we can ’ t forget the Ladies.   They ’ re the only sure thing in this WWE Universe at the moment.   But today, I would like to discuss a little conjecture regarding Triple H, if I may. Since what ’ s advertised is what it is, let me take this time to expound on what I ’ d love to see with this WWE Universe in the near future.   Outside some sort of tragedy (God forbid), we can all basically assume that one day, relatively soon, we shall “ bend the knee ” to Triple H as our Chairman and as I see Bayley as Our Arya Stark, I see Triple H as our Ned Stark.   The prevailing difference, he doesn ’ t die.   I think a smart way for the WWE to proceed is to still f

A Good Evening to You, Enthusiasts! How’s this Friday for you?   Well, tonight we get tape delayed fare from Manchester, England as we settle in for the annual UK stint.    It will be interesting how our “hooligan” brethren take to the on-going changes.  Well, since this is the UK tour, this won’t entirely be an exhibition but there will be some tinges of the sentiment.   Yes, I could go look at spoilers but I don’t need to know that badly.   I can wait. So, what awaits us?   We already know that Baron Corbin and Roman Reigns are going to throwdown.   I’m not sure if they’ve got any beef to go on besides Corbin being a heel but if they have fun with it, we shouldn’t complain.   Also, at some point tonight Nikki Cross will continue to keep a light burn on the minor feud she has with Sasha Banks and The Revival will box to keep their Tag Team Titles.   Now, RAW wasn’t particularly great this past Monday but it wasn’t bad as much as it seemed somewhat “phoned in”.   People app

A Good Friday to You, Enthusiasts! Feeling good after Halloween?   Hope it was a good one.   As many of you know, SmackDown , is gonna be running by the seat of its pants this week and that just might be what the doctor ordered.   This will be an interesting night no matter what so, I hope who’s left to put on the show aren’t paranoid about tanking it but buzzing with the possibilities.   Ideally, they want to have a bunch of fun out there tonight and if they do it right, we’ll hope for these sorts of delays in the future.   But before we get into all that, let’s just touch on this most recent Crown Jewel. I have to say that it was a solid show.   The only real complaint is that it did feel like the corporate display that it was but given the nature of the venture, I feel that should be forgiven for the most part.   I understand the cultural differences and it’s best to just default to a simple, professional presentation in these sorts of circumstances.   Perhaps in the futu

Greetings Enthusiasts! Here we are at another Friday night and I have to tell ya, the stakes are kinda high.    The WWE is seeing staggering drops in ratings of late and now have no choice but to turn things around.   Fortunately, SmackDown has been holding its own of late.   It’s RAW that has to make serious changes.  Personally, I’ve been voicing in this here blog that the WWE should be prepared to lose fans as they retool itself.   Some people may simply not like what it has become and that’s okay.   I can’t vouch for them when it comes to putting poor content out but I can understand it not suiting everyone’s taste.   The way they may continue to go, hopefully with improvements, may not go over well with all fans.   A lot feel they should mimic AEW and NXT’s style and presentation more and show less of the corporate glitz it seems to.    I don’t mind the glitz because the WWE definitely had its grittier days and it’s good to see that they’ve “made it” and it should be clear

And for the Second Course, SmackDown Has Some 1st Round King of the Ring Action...

A Tantalizing Tuesday to You, Enthusiasts! Why tantalizing, you ask?   Well, to close this week’s WWE action, we have SmackDown offering what could be quite a match with Buddy Murphy continuing to serve as an example of what happens to “snitches” as he faces Daniel Bryan tonight.   This should be a good one or at least, somewhat competitive as Bryan is some Hippie Heel and Murphy has shit to prove.   We’ll see how they spin this one.   Go ahead and prepare yourself for some sort of “no contest” finish.   As much as this could be a great match, I doubt they’ll waste implications at this time.   Treat this as an experiment.   We’ll see how these fellows match up and if we’re pleasantly surprised with an actual decision, we can go to bed with some sort of peace.   Ideally, this could set up some Clash of Champions action. Tonight, we can rest a little easy because RAW was solid last night.   Smackdown just has to bring it in, so to speak.   Slight miss here and there, but that

Extreme Rules Is Gonna Be Heavy...

A Good Sunday to You, Enthusiasts! So, how ready are you for Extreme Rules?    Personally, I’m a little surprised this is getting a 4pm/7pm start during the Summer but I guess they’re trying to get this wrapped up well before midnight for you East Coasters.   It is a "school night" for us who have to work 😉  And t hough they can advertise the Undertaker we all know that this isn’t one of the most hyped up PPVs.   What is interesting is that AEW offered another showing as well last night in the form of Fight for the Fallen.   I didn’t check it out but given what I’ve seen from AEW, all the WWE needs to do is keep tonight fun and entertaining.   If everyone can basically go out there and demonstrate why they get paid to do it, they shouldn’t have much to worry about when it comes to AEW.   Like I said, WWE can let AEW be Dallas .   They’ll stick to our version of class and represent those who would have preferred Dynasty if they had it to choose from.   The remake is t

Yeah, SmackDown Let's RAW Think That...

A Thoughtful Tuesday to You, Enthusiasts! How’s it going for you?   Let's get right to it, shall we.   RAW wasn’t as “snap-crackle-pop” as it could have been but given the current circumstances of things, I wouldn’t say that’s a bad thing.   If anything, I’d say this is more of an indication of the WWE taking a “wait and see approach”, with this AEW now on the scene.   As I said last night, I’ll probably partake of both just to compare and contrast and so far, I think they’ll be distinctly different enough so that we don’t have to choose.   To be honest, judging by my blog and Twitter numbers, I would say most of my viewers check-in on Thursday which suggests that consumers see this as less than “must see TV”.   They’re more than willing to watch at their leisure so, I use that as a gauge.   What the WWE has to worry about is if people stop bothering all together.   I’ve been voicing how the WWE may not want to worry too much about that because they may have to start over

This Is Why SmackDown Keeps Its Money in a Mattress...

Hello Enthusiasts, Is it a good Tuesday for you?   It’s one of the better ones for me, actually.   So, let’s get to it.   RAW , for all my pessimism, was actually quite fun last night.   I had a great time with it and more importantly, it seemed like the roster did too.   I think that has been one of the things missing, in all honesty.   They’ve been treating it more like work when it’s supposed to be a good time.   I won’t blame anybody.   I’m sure they weren’t sure of their direction if rumors are true that they could be overruled anyway at a moment’s notice.  Nevertheless, it looks like they’re loosening up out there and that’s nothing but an improvement. In any case, we have to discuss the new 24/7 Title.   Yes, they could have done more to create a more tasteful belt but who knows how much time they had to work on this.   I think the concept is great.   I think this will allow for a lot of fun and give a lot of those who feel like they’re just warming the bench some airti

SmackDown Sticks to Goodies Because They're Goodies...

Who doesn’t like those 😉 A Delightful Tuesday to You, Enthusiasts! I have to say I’ve certainly have had worse days.   So, for the time being we have a “Wild Card Rule” in effect where select wrestlers from either brand can show up on the opposing show.   We the Audience appear to be divided on the subject for the most part.   Again, this arbitrary move makes everything more…arbitrary.   But, my good audience, that’s kind of the thing.   The very nature of this genre is arbitrary.   It may have been harder to discern in the past but this has always been arbitrary.   What I think we really mean is that we think it generally sucks.   We can’t sink our teeth into it like we’d like to and that is the tricky bit because everyone has a different idea of how to make it better.   I think what we have to accept is that we’ve become “too aware”.   Remember, the Attitude Era happened during a time when we all were generally a lot more innocent.   Now, the children of this era have alrea

It’s the reason you come back 😉 A Good Tuesday to You, Enthusiasts! So, RAW was hit or miss but not especially dismal so, SmackDown doesn’t have to do too much work but they do have to keep our focus set on the upcoming Money in the Bank PPV.   It appears it plans to do that by announcing its MITB participants.   Then,  Becky Lynch will motor over and let Bayley show her that she’s got some moxie.   Probably later on, Kofi Kingston will have words about Kevin Owens' blatant betrayal.   Personally, I didn’t mind it because Kevin Owens is doing what everyone should be doing, defining his character.   We knew he would do something like this and when he did it we were not surprised.   If anything, we laugh a little because Owens is being true to form. This may be a quality that is lacking amongst a lot of the wrestlers.   As much as the name of the game is “wrestling”, the subplot of that is entertainment.   So, how do We the Audience come to like someone busting their

A Good Tuesday to You, Enthusiasts! So, remember how I was all talking about how Roman Reigns wouldn’t have a job in the real world given his recent actions?   Well, tonight we shall see if the WWE Universe will adhere to then tenets of Real Life or enforce its own sense of “justice”.   Well, it did seem a bit unprovoked.   Yet, I wouldn’t count on a heel-turn.   I know I’m not always right but the only way a heel turn works is if the person can sell it and this guy ain’t no heel.   He may be no good, but he’s no heel 😉 If the rumors I hear of him starting up with Randy Orton are true, that should be as close as he gets to Heeldom, the “Jock” to Orton’s “Douche”.   Just jointly giving a fuck but equally not feeling each other.   It writes itself!     In any case, besides that we get to see Becky Lynch’s busy ass shuttle between RAW and SmackDown to defend both titles.   She comes over to SmackDown to give Charlotte something to salivate over.   Just given how things are play
