SmackDown's Pretty Sure You Remember It...

Image
It’s the reason you come back 😉 A Good Tuesday to You, Enthusiasts! So, RAW was hit or miss but not especially dismal so, SmackDown doesn’t have to do too much work but they do have to keep our focus set on the upcoming Money in the Bank PPV.   It appears it plans to do that by announcing its MITB participants.   Then,  Becky Lynch will motor over and let Bayley show her that she’s got some moxie.   Probably later on, Kofi Kingston will have words about Kevin Owens' blatant betrayal.   Personally, I didn’t mind it because Kevin Owens is doing what everyone should be doing, defining his character.   We knew he would do something like this and when he did it we were not surprised.   If anything, we laugh a little because Owens is being true to form. This may be a quality that is lacking amongst a lot of the wrestlers.   As much as the name of the game is “wrestling”, the subplot of that is entertainment.   So, how do We the Audience come to like someone busting their

RAW's New Focus: Reminding Us That They Exist...

How’s Goes It, Enthusiasts? So, we’re fresh from Game of Thrones and for some of us Endgame to return to what RAW has to offer and I have to say, I kinda agree with the sentiments floating around.   This stuff doesn’t do the WWE any favors.   They tell good stories.   Something the WWE hasn't done well for quite some time.   I’ve been saying that the WWE has to take advantage of these trends.   Like, take Game of Thrones.  T he WWE will never compare but there are comparisons and when it wraps up, it would probably behoove them to try to pick up some of the fanbase, especially those who dig the violence.   The WWE is right up their alley if they can come up with some decent content.   But t hat’s the kicker, will they ever?   Sometimes they get it right but I’m sure the numbers they’re getting makes it clear they gotta up their games to some degree.   The crowd is just more aware.   It will take more to fool ‘em and keep ‘em interested. That’s just what’s happening.   Someho

A Good Tuesday to You, Enthusiasts! So, remember how I was all talking about how Roman Reigns wouldn’t have a job in the real world given his recent actions?   Well, tonight we shall see if the WWE Universe will adhere to then tenets of Real Life or enforce its own sense of “justice”.   Well, it did seem a bit unprovoked.   Yet, I wouldn’t count on a heel-turn.   I know I’m not always right but the only way a heel turn works is if the person can sell it and this guy ain’t no heel.   He may be no good, but he’s no heel 😉 If the rumors I hear of him starting up with Randy Orton are true, that should be as close as he gets to Heeldom, the “Jock” to Orton’s “Douche”.   Just jointly giving a fuck but equally not feeling each other.   It writes itself!     In any case, besides that we get to see Becky Lynch’s busy ass shuttle between RAW and SmackDown to defend both titles.   She comes over to SmackDown to give Charlotte something to salivate over.   Just given how things are play

RAW Feels More Settled Now. Must Be the Pepto Bismol...

A Merry Monday to You, Enthusiasts!     So, we’re all shook up and I have to begin with admitting my incorrect conclusion when it came to Roman Reigns.   I was wrong.   He was the big “surprise” change to the SmackDown roster, though he inaugurates himself this time around with a Superman Punch to the Chairman himself!   I stated on the Twitters that no man would be able to come to work the next day after an act like this but this is the WWE Universe.   Punching out the Chairman becomes a sort of rite of passage.   In this respect though, my only complaint is that it seemingly came out of nowhere.   Was there even beef with The Authority?   This is the sort of thing the WWE as a whole has to consider.   How much sense is this stuff going to make?   Is it just going to be a lot of jokes, shit talk and action or is it actually going to follow some train of thought?   I’m fine with either, what they have to do is pick a lane and stick to it.   If it’s the former, the action better b

SmackDown Likes a Shake-Up. Keeps Things Interesting...

Image
A Thoughtful Tuesday to You, Enthusiasts! So, the shake-up continues as do the speculations.   What’s advertised is mostly vague.   We can expect Mr. Vince McMahon to make an appearance to announce some sort of major acquisition so, we'll be all aflutter as to who it could be.   Now, most continue to believe it’s Roman Reigns but like I said, I think they’ll be more subtle with that introduction.   Personally, I don’t think we’ll see this one coming.   It might be someone from the Indies or maybe even Rob Gronkowski.   Reigns is just a little too obvious right now and though we may be getting the gist of WWE Logic, generally speaking they prefer to keep us guessing.   Everybody calling it guarantees they won’t do it…at least not right now. In any case, I wasn’t too upset with any of the change-ups.   The Miz was promoted as were The Usos, both well-earned.   Andrade also got the call along with these Viking fellows from NXT.   There were others but those were the ones of n

RAW Is Feeling a Bit Bored...Why Not Shake Things Up!...

A Merry Monday to You, Enthusiasts! How’s it going?   So, you know what begins tonight, right?   It’s the Superstar Shake-up!   Place your bets on who goes where.   Well, it’s not all that surprising but the consensus appears to be that many, my occasional podcast mates included, feel Roman Reigns should go to SmackDown yet, speculation continues for everyone else.   As for me, I don’t have any predictions.   But, don’t be surprised if Roman Reigns stays put.   Not that I’m against him going to SmackDown but I feel a move like that would happen closer to the SmackDown change-over to FOX later in the year.   FOX has made it clear that it doesn’t want to miss out on any of the stars so, I’m not sure how “fixed” this shake-up is going to be.   People may make “guest spots” regardless so, they may adhere to general WWE Logic in the meantime and then probably have someone on SmackDown start talking shit about him, thinking he’s safe only to get a “surprise” with Reigns being in the

Starting Over Are We?...SmackDown Is Strangely Fine with That...

Image
How’s It Going, Enthusiasts? Was I more or less right?   Well, it looks like they continued with a lot of surprises on RAW so, I guess I was wrong.   Kofi Kingston retained his title though I thoroughly enjoyed the back and forth between he and Seth Rollins during the main event.   These men are skilled in their trade so I can overlook the lack of size as they hold the titles.   If the smaller dudes can generally do this, outsmart or “outwrestle” their larger opponents, they can make their title runs far more believable.   We the Audience becomes savvier as time goes on.   As Creative lay their plans, they have to make sure the “winner” is able to sell the “win”. Finn Bálor does this well.   Even though he’s slight, he does come up with compelling offenses that make him winning over someone larger believable.   I don’t mind if he takes a Universal or WWE Title if he wins in this way.   If he simply is dubbed winner and the opposing party takes the fall, we will be far from impres

RAW Hits Reset and We Begin Again...

A Good Monday to You, Enthusiasts! So, how did WrestleMania work out for you?   You know what, I’m kinda happy John Cena made his heel turn.   If he does it right, it could be absolute hilarity and he could go out on a high note.   I’m proud of him.   He basically did what I thought he should do but on his terms and that’s what really matters.   He’s the one who has to go out there.   This should be a good time. As for the rest of it, it wasn’t all bad.   Some of it just deserved an eye roll but most of it was palatable.   In my opinion, Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar got match of the night.   The fact that it coaxed us into it was what sold it for me.   We weren’t in the mood for Lesnar and Heyman pulling rank and taking advantage of Rollins, which made his recovery work.   This had to be executed wisely.   If Lesnar squashed, we would have booed and if Rollins was too easily victorious, we wouldn’t have bought the match.   This had a good dose of realism which made it a good

It's All About That WrestleMania...We Made It!

Greetings Enthusiasts! Are you ready for this WrestleMania action!   I am. I’m not at the excitement level I’d like but definitely more up for it than I have been in previous years.   I don’t think we’ll be disappointed. Now I’m not going to breakdown the match card or even guess at order.   The way this night might go, a lot of stuff we may not be aware of.   I get the feeling they may want to surprise us and that’s not a bad thing.   It is the 35 th WrestleMania after all.   They have clearance to make it more of a blast than usual.   Expect similar when 40 comes around.   In any case, my point is that who knows what we’ll see tonight so, I’ll just comment on some of the matches I’m curious about. Well, I’m very interested in what they do with Bobby Lashley/Finn Bálor match.   If I were them, I’d put that on kick-off given the lead in they gave them.   They promised the “demon” so we’ll see if they just say throw on the make-up and dance around.   The hope is that the

That Was Fun but SmackDown Tends to Crack the Whip....

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts! So, it appears that Roman Reigns has returned and with him, the potential reunification of the SHIELD.   I don’t have a real problem with this, if this is done in an entertaining fashion.   The thing about a faction like the SHIELD is as long as Dean Ambrose, Reigns and Seth Rollins are actively on the roster, there’s always potential for a break-up or reunion.   It’s one of the age old WWE adages.   A team/faction can disband or reform at any given time.   What the WWE has to start doing is making sure the “given time” makes sense and advances some sort of storyline.   It can’t be too random, though we don’t put it past them, but ultimately if they want to keep people interested, the formulation or disbanding has to be for some discernible, plausible reason.    It looks like RAW may be gathering the likes of Baron Corbin, Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley and possibly Elias together to create some Council of Doom but we’ll see how that develops.   Again,

A Tip-Top Tuesday to You, Enthusiasts! How’s it going for you?   It’s the same ol’, same ol’ for me.   So, let’s get right to it.   RAW was dynamic last night.   I think it did a good job of setting the tone.   It wasn’t over-the-top but there was excitement and intrigue which at least got us wondering as to how they plan to play all this “drama” out.   I’m sure the bulk of you enjoyed the complete breakdown of the 6-Woman Tag Team match.   I thought it was great.   They had a lot of fun with it too as you could see.   Charlotte stole the show for me, though.   I know I’m not the only one because the gif of her kneeing whomever in the face while they were getting carted off and arrested is circulating.   Hilarious!   That’s my girl now.   Heel or Face, she gets it.   We’ll see how they get miraculously pardoned for their match. The one disconcerting aspect of last night’s festivities though was in the form of the showdown between Bobby Lashley and Finn Bálor’s Dæmon.   This w

RAW Expects You to Know What Time It Is...

A Good Evening, Enthusiasts! So, here we are.   Another Go-Home Show for WrestleMania and unlike previous years, I’m honestly intrigued.   Before, I was just wondering whether they’d make it work.   This year, a workable WrestleMania just feels a lot more possible.   It's a strange feeling.  Let us see if there's anything to it.   Looking at the night's events, we have a 6-Woman Tag scheduled.   Naturally, Brock Lesnar needs to have his final showdown with Seth Rollins and Kurt Angle will wrestle for the last time on RAW .   Hopefully, he’ll actually be able to complete the thing.   Many of us were upset with Randy Orton busting up the match against AJ Styles.   I know the point was to rile people up but there are good ways and bad ways to do this and that last time was an example of a “bad way”.   Orton and Management may have a little real heat on them for that one.   We the Audience would have preferred they boxed clean. Well, these things happen in the WWE.   I
