Royal Rumble 2023

Image
Happy Royal Rumble, Enthusiasts!   So, this will be a fairly short post because the Royal Rumble appears to be just that this year, The Rumble. I’m thinking it opens with the Women and closes with the Men with the Title Matches sandwiching the Pitch Black match. I like the “to the point” approach. Let’s hope it all works out.   So, given there is and isn’t a lot to talk about, I’ll keep this post simple. For the Women’s Rumble, I couldn’t even begin to think who wins because it all depends on who wins the RAW Women’s Title. If Bianca Belair retains, it all depends on who makes a believable opponent. Alexa Bliss is only a contender due to “Crazy” being on her side so, I don’t know how long that lasts.   As much as we don’t mind suspending a little disbelief, we will only go so far. On top of that, we like a fight! So, it’s hard to get jazzed for a fight with someone who’s 90lbs unless you’re a fan or both parties are waifs. So, I guess if Bliss wins, we can maybe expect Liv

It's Survivor Series + War Games!!!

And I have no idea what to expect. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. WWE has been crippled by its own monotony for years so I commend the experiment but that’s just it. This is a blatant experiment. If they’ve been done in the past, it’s been quite some time so, how it will land is the big question.  To be honest, I think the key tonight may be to not try so hard and to make sure they have fun. I had the idea that they should come out with banners à la Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon but I would be satisfied with a digital version. The real thing does take time to make.  My point is, due to the uncertainty of how this will go over, they should just aim to make a good time of it. They all know what they more or less have to do out there. They have to get us engaged in faux fisticuffs. Stick to the prime directive and it should be all right. All that said, there are a couple matches I am curious about. The first of which is the SmackDown Women’s Championship match with Ronda Ro

Extreme Rules for the New Age...

Happy Saturday, Enthusiasts! We had a solid SmackDown lead us into today’s events and the scant card makes me think that there are more surprises to come. Will the source of the White Rabbit appear? Will we have some jaw dropping return or acquisition? Can’t say but I’ll be watching to see. Now, all the regular readers know I don’t bother to run down every match but I’ll talk about the 3 I feel are the matches to watch or at the very least, interest me. The first of which is Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross. I wouldn’t have thought about this one much if it wasn’t for their showing on last night’s SmackDown . That, I would have to say, is something. Kross has to make a statement since this is 2 nd shot and it appears he doesn’t plan on missing the mark.  Strangely enough, he may be a good counter for Drew McIntyre. As I’ve said in past posts, professional wrestling/sports entertainment requires a sort of sincerity. There has to be authenticity in the characters and the action for we,

It's Clash at the Castle...

Image
Good Morning, Enthusiasts!   It’s probably afternoon or evening for the lot of you but I’m last to the party by default. How’s everyone doing? So, it’s Clash at the Castle and I’m about to have breakfast. That being said, let me just get on with it and breakdown my personal matches of interest. Let’s see what we got here.   First match that has me curious is Matt Riddle vs. Seth Rollins. This could be potentially very interesting. Mainly because the simmering beef is kinda half real. Rollins doesn’t like Riddle for obvious reasons (sexual assault allegation) and so how much of this is kayfabe is an intriguing question. They’re willing to go there on television but will someone go “too far”? Who knows. That’s what makes it juicy. We’ll see if it turns out to be a good match as well.   Second on the curiosity meter is Shayna Baszler and Liv Morgan. So, isn’t this the night & day match. Well, I see that Baszler is slowly becoming the reluctant heroine and I think that it i

Summer Slam 2022... It Is Here...

Image
Happy Summer Slam, Enthusiasts!   Well, this is an interesting time in the WWE Universe. We have “Summer Slam I” essentially because we are under the Triple H regime. Does that mean all the others no longer matter? No. It means they are now outdated because they were directly overseen by Mr. Vince McMahon. Is this a good thing? Most people think it is. We shall see.   This is not to say anything against Triple H but Money in the Bank was actually solid. It was the first solid, from start to finish, PPV I’ve ever seen in my 7-8 years of watching. Will H keep pace? It’s hard to say. The card would say not to get hopes up but no matter who’s in charge, the talent is there. Will it be put to the best use?   I’m curious to see what happens and of course, I will be watching but here are the matches I’ll be most interested in seeing. First off, is the Logan Paul vs. The Miz match. This is intriguing due to all the press saying that Paul is angling to be a Face. If Triple H has any

Who Gets the Briefcase? - Money in the Bank...

A Good Saturday to You, Enthusiasts.   Enjoying the long weekend if that’s your lot? Pace yourself it’s only the beginning. We are here once again for Money in the Bank and well, it’s not the most exciting card but it doesn’t mean we won’t see good performances. To be honest, that may be the best way for tonight’s players handle today. Just be respectable out there.   I don’t run down every match but here are few that have my interest. Generally, the matches I speak on are the “matches to watch” or odd ones out that need to make some sort of splash. The first match is just that, Natalya vs. Ronda Rousey.   This is a “true grit” match of a particular kind. We all know Nattie can wrestle but she doesn’t seem to connect with the fans generally. I like her because of her prowess and I can understand her uniqueness. As you can see, I don’t exactly have thousands of followers. Yet the ones I have are either bots or long standing. I get it. I’m not everyone’s cup of tea and I don’

Who's Still Interested in Hell in a Cell?...

Image
How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?   So, here we are for yet another Hell in a Cell PPV and it appears that most wrestling fans are indifferent about the matter. Don’t really blame ‘em but to be honest, this should be viewed as a good sign. Why? Because it’s not due to a bad show, just an uninteresting one.   I hear a lot of talk about “bad booking” and underutilizing talent but this is what I’m getting at. They don’t know what to do with everyone. Haven’t for a while but at least they’re just getting back to basics and seeing what works. That’s why this “revolution” is so lowkey. It’s just the truth. What do you do with these guys/gals? Don’t know. So, it’s trial and error until something starts to click. What else can you do?   At the moment only a few things are “working”. What we know for sure is that Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins shouldn’t disappoint. They decided to nail the assignment so that is the match to watch even though it will be the third time in as many months.

So, Who's Curious About BackLash?...

Image
Anyone? Anyone? 😉   What’s Up, Enthusiasts?   I hope all is well. So, it’s the PPV no one cares about. I’ve seen more interest in paint drying. Nobody gives a shit about tonight. I won’t lie and say I do but I like watching this stuff. You see it’s kinda my thing. What else am I gonna do? Everyone is like, “Anything else…”. Jeez.   Well, I’m not sure if WWE can do much about this. Most of the general attention is drawn to more important matters. We have the crisis in Ukraine and everything is fucking expensive. People are probably considering dropping Peacock Premium just to save the few bucks for gas. I really don’t blame people for not caring. This is why WWE should just toss a lot to the wind and try to have fun with it.   We can all see that they’ve sort of strangled themselves with focus primarily on the bottom line. Everything is painfully scripted and you’ve got wrestlers who are not actors trying to pull it off. That tends to be what sorts the wheat from the

WrestleMania 38 - Day II

Image
Happy Closing Day of WrestleMania,   Well, Day I was a solid night of action. I don’t think many of us can say different. I like this. This gives people real motivation to go out and do their best. That’s all it really should be about. This should be very human, very visceral. That’s why it resonates. That’s why there’s nothing like it. Even if you don’t know who anyone is, you can walk in and get it if it’s set up right.   Yet, story of the night did require some backstory, though. Let’s not lie. There is a wrestling divide due to Cody Rhodes’ departure. However, this may not be a bad thing. This inherent story makes it all interesting at a base level. It is a human drama. Rhodes has essentially returned home. He had every right to storm off and partake in the creation of an alternative. It was the only way he would ever be heard. It may be hard to hear but I feel it is very true. Well, we all heard him loud and clear tonight and I saw him in those Stardust days. It’s not his

WrestleMania 38 - Day I

Image
Happy Opening Day of WrestleMania,   Hope you get to sit back and enjoy the show in peace. So, there are some question marks that have yet to be addressed. Today they should get answered. As you know, I don’t breakdown everything. I just hit the points of interest so, let’s get to it. I’ll be brief.   We’ll start with Bianca Belair vs. Becky Lynch II. These ladies just have to have fun with it. Keep it nice and competitive and just go. If they can work in some appropriate shit talk too, we should all be happy with the outcome of this one. All they need to do is flip a coin and the outcome is fine with me.   Seth Rollins vs. Whoever is next. I really want to see if they make this interesting whether it’s Cody Rhodes or not. As I said in the previous post, there’s some talk that Shane McMahon is in town to fill the void but others say that’s just what he does come WrestleMania, he catches the show. I will reiterate that I think using Shane as a sub is a bad idea. Though I can
