SmackDown Just Tries to be Effective. No Plan Necessary.

Image
Good Evening, Enthusiasts! How’s this week going for you so far?   I’m just grateful the Gods didn’t interrupt my West Coast feed so no complaints from me. Let's hope the trend continues.   So, RAW came through and did its thing and I have to say, they set a good tone for being about 2 weeks out from WrestleMania.   The action was high energy and engaging.   It even brought me to wonder a bit.   Personally, I would say a high point was seeing Beth Phoenix in action.   I wasn’t watching during her heyday but it was nice to see her get her footing back and just be big and bad-ass!   Like I said on the Twitters, need more gals like that on the roster.   I feel like I can pick a lot of the ladies up by the scruff.   The more to ‘em, the easier it all is to believe unless they got mad skills in which case, that’s what they have going on. I also found the main event intriguing.   Some people didn’t care for the placement and tone because it had Drew McIntyre stand triumphant ov

RAW Has a Plan! Just You Wait and See...

A Merry Monday to You, Enthusiasts! So, as many of you may know, I’m having real-time streaming issues so, if I can’t join in the fun tonight, I’ll do it on Wednesday but I’ll keep the blog posts current with the action.   In any case, for tonight more momentum has to be built to set-up the “ants in the pants” Go-Home show for next week.   So far, what’s been teased is Roman Reigns dragging his heels on his response to Drew McIntyre and Ronda Rousey seeing how long she can stay on the premises without getting into it with someone.   Besides that, there’s speculation that John Cena may make some sort of appearance seeing how RAW is in Boston this week.   What’s being tossed around is setting up a match with Kurt Angle as opposed to Baron Corbin which could be a fair swan song for Angle and Cena should it work out that way.   I don’t have a problem with an Angle vs. Corbin match but I understand that’s sort of underwhelming given the context.   Well, you know how I feel, Enthusiasts

SmackDown Stays Close so It's Never Too Far Away...

A Good Tuesday to You, Enthusiasts! So, RAW earns its keep and leaves SmackDown to merely break even tonight.   Though they used one of their old tricks in selling the Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins match, it was palatable enough given we have about 3 good weeks of action before WrestleMania.   I understand creating a “slow build” for these sorts of things and I wasn’t mad at the approach.   As for tonight, what really hangs in the balance is this impromptu push for Kofi Kingston.   We know he’s set for the impossible task of besting basically anyone who doesn’t have tag team duty in a gnarly Gauntlet Match to earn a shot at the WWE Title.   You know, what’s funny about this set-up is that if he succeeds, it kinda proves that we’ve been done a disservice all these years because he should have been in title contention all this time.   Wouldn’t that be how it is?   I’d liken it to how Dolph Ziggler dropped our jaws a few years back when Roman Reigns was out with that hernia condi

RAW Is Right on Schedule...

Greetings Enthusiasts! How does this Monday go for you?   I have the luxury of a little time off and so far, it’s been all I could have hoped.   As for tonight’s action, there’s speculation Brock Lesnar may make an appearance but as for what’s actually advertised, it’s looking like we’ll get another showdown between Triple H and Dave Batista and Bobby Lashley and Finn Bálor will face off again for the Intercontinental Title.   Speaking of Bálor, word is that the Dæmon is set for an appearance at WrestleMania and I’m all for this is if it’s properly set-up.   The thing about this angle is that it definitely requests us to suspend some disbelief so that means the WWE has to sell the transformation.  So, something has to happen to prompt this demon to come out.   Lashley has to try to take him out of contention or something so that he has no choice but to use his “ace up his sleeve”.    If the manifestation is arbitrary then so will be We the Audience’s general response.    There has

Before They Head Over, SmackDown Just Has to Take Care of a Few Things...

A Good Tuesday to You, Enthusiasts! Everything going okay?   Can’t say I can really complain.   Well, here we are at the FastLane Fallout for SmackDown and for once, they have to clean up their own mess.   Last week’s show was surprisingly sub-par for their standards.  Primarily, I felt the set-up for the match with Charlotte and Becky Lynch to close the evening fell quite flat.   A battered and bruised Lynch hobbles out and on sheer will and determination sends Charlotte scuttling backstage.   Personally, I thought the bit brought down the intensity of the feud.   I went from sinking my teeth into it, to dropping it. Mainly because the feud went from believable to ridiculous.   It’s like thinking you’re going for pizza and not until you take a bite of your so-called “pepperoni pizza” do you realize that it’s a vegan joint and not the kind that fools you.   I understand that Lynch is hot right now but against a strong character like Charlotte, this sort of unstoppability I just

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts! Did you catch FastLane?   You know what, it wasn’t all that bad.   I have to say it was one of the more engaging PPVs in quite some time.   There were some “last minute” changes that had the Cien Almas vs. Rey Mysterio match converted into a Fatal-4-Way with R-Truth & Samoa Joe and moved to the main show while The New Day vs. Rusev &  Shinsuke Nakamura opened during the Kick-Off Show.   This actually was a fun match that opened festivities on a high note.   It was comforting to see.   It was also nice to see WWE Creative make things interesting by tossing in some drama, teasing us with the Kofi Kingston and the RAW Women’s Title match. There is some talk that the women’s matches got the short end of the stick, though and not to condone it but do remember this is a relatively new format.   Not to say there weren’t some talented lasses that have graced WWE’s halls, it’s just that more often than not, they were noted for their sex appeal then prow

FastLane - No Traffic

A Good Sunday to You, Enthusiasts! Tonight we feast upon FastLane and to be honest, I’m not exactly excited about it but that doesn’t mean there’s no chance for good content.   I’m not going to rundown every match but there are 4 that could be interesting.   This is another sort of “Blank Slate” sort of PPV so, they’re going to have to go out there and make the most of it.   Though we’re heading into WrestleMania, this doesn’t necessarily have to serve as set-up, everything after does so this is more a stand-alone PPV.   All the wrestlers have to do is stay loose and hit their spots, so to speak.   Perform well and our interest is held, it’s as simple as that. As for the matches, I’m thinking that the newcomers may be the ones who make the biggest splash.   Aleister Black and Ricochet will be teaming up to take on The Revival and Chad Gable & Bobby Roode in a Triple Threat for the Tag Team Title and with their theatrical flair, this may be the match of the evening.   Yet,

This Is Why SmackDown Just Stays in the FastLane

A Good Tuesday to You, Enthusiasts! So, I would say RAW was at least engaging.   It wasn’t bad.   It wasn’t the smoothest either but it wasn’t bad.   Decent for a Go-Home Show.   We learn that Michael Ché and Colin Jost are going to be our guest commentators for WrestleMania and their contribution last night was just a little off but I think it’s something they could acclimate to.   ‘Cause really, they pretty much do the same thing without the wrestling. Besides that, the Shield did in fact reunite and the speculation continues to run rampant as to whether Dean Ambrose will still leave after WrestleMania.   Well, I think if that happens or not depends more on what Creative comes up with.   If they come up with fun content that makes some sort of sense, I think they have a shot at keeping him.   If they dance him around doing, for lack of a better term, “stupid shit” he probably won’t stick around.   Most would do same if they were serious.   So, we’ll see if they prance him aroun

RAW Suggests You Use Your Turn Signal to Merge into the FastLane...

Greetings, Enthusiasts! I do believe we have found ourselves at another Go-Home Show and this time for FastLane.   Now, since FastLane is more like a filler PPV until WrestleMania, I’m not going to harp on how the build has been so-so because this event doesn’t need top billing.   This is another space where some experimentation can be had.   Generally, the lesser PPVs should be utilized as times to “let it hang out”, so to speak.  WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, SummerSlam and maybe Survivor Series, those are times to “kill it” but right now, it’s more about having fun.   So, for tonight, not much is advertised but what is isn’t all that surprising.   Naturally, Triple H will have a response for the very rude but distinguished Dave Batista.   And Charlotte will grace us with her presence since there’s a title just lying around without an owner.   She’ll gladly step in. Besides the predictable fodder, we do have the interesting guests in the form of Michael Ché and Colin Jost fr
