Saturday Night: Main Event (VII)

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts? Happy Memorial Day Weekend. So, I made comments on all the things I really wanted to say and looking at tonight’s card. This is an interesting time indeed. On paper, this is a mid-card show. The “meat & potatoes” are being saved for Clash In Italy so this show should be telling. Everyone we see tonight, is basically singing for their supper. Less so for the Ladies. The Lady Stars seem to be proctoring their matches but the men have to keep themselves in the conversation with this one. What should we care? Why should we watch? The assignment for those we witness tonight is “make it work”. It’s the wrestling version of Project Runway. Who will “make the cut”? I’m not going to speculate. As you can see, these are strange times and I promised a short post. Let’s see who earns their keep and I’ll talk about it come Monday. And remember that won’t be a “Go Home Show” ‘cause look where they’re going, abroad. Then it will be the stars’ turn. Let’s relax and obs...

SmackDown Leads Us into the Saturday Night: Main Event...

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?   Happy Friday! Goodness, this has been an eventful week, hasn’t it? Well, it appears to be ending on a more hopeful note but there’s a lot going on outside of the Ludwig Kaiser/El Grande Americano II incident. This is probably gonna be a long post so, perhaps get into it after the show. This Memorial Day Weekend is jam packed! Let’s break it down.   We’ll start in the Realm of AEW as they’re getting ready for their Double or Nothing PPV that’s going down on Sunday. They had a double-header show this week holding both Dynamite and Collision together. Per usual, I’m overseeing The Future and if I didn’t know better, we got our first tastes of what’s to come in the Part 1 of the showdown between Kyle O’Reilly and Jon Moxley. As we know, O’Reilly ain’t scared of Mox. If anyone’s got Mox’s number, it’s O’Reilly so this was a loaded match in that respect. It was no surprise that it went the distance and I appreciated how O’Reilly had no problem ...

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?   A Merry Monday to you. So, there’s not much going on in the Wrestling World be we can have brief chat about this past weekend’s Saturday Night: Main Event and the night’s RAW . So, let’s not dally and do this.   Saturday’s SNME was great! It was just a solid show. It was ramped up from the moment someone said “Go!” and didn’t really settle down until it was over. It was a lot of fun. I think it’s a nice touch that Jacob Fatu’s and Cody Rhode’s match never officially got started and they just had it out in the stands which proves my point of how we don’t use our words in the WWE Universe. Scrapping it out is all we understand. It served Drew McIntyre to shut it all down as well. If he’s going to carry this Championship he has to have some clout. I don’t mind him being a “miserable bastard” in the meantime. He just has to validate himself on occasion.   The Ladies did their jobs in the Tag Team Championship and it’s hard to compl...

Saturday Night: Main Event (VI) - Matches of Interest

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts? It’s the first Saturday Night: Main Event of the year and it’s naturally a short card but I got a match that I’m looking at. I think most of us will. So, why don't we break it down. Out of everything, I’m looking at the Fatal-4-Way with Randy Orton, Damian Priest, Trick Williams and Sami Zayn. Who wins it? Well…the shocker would be Zayn. He’s in Montréal, his hometown so they rarely give it to the hometown boy. WWE likes raining on a parade. However, they’d might do it just to drop jaws.  The favorite is Trick Williams. The Crowds have received him surprisingly well. I knew he was popular in NXT but I had no idea it translated. I didn’t even know he was a big guy until he debuted. I was expecting him to be like 5’10. He moves well for his size and he definitely has the mouth. He is basically Rick James’ Nephew. He could work out. Then we have the veteran in Randy Orton and the still developing Damian Priest. I would be surprised if it’s Priest to b...

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?   Happy Friday! Well, there’s not much going on in the Wrestling World but that’s okay. It doesn’t have to be exciting all the time. Makes it more special when it is. I got a couple things to chat about and then it’s off to the weekend. We got some things going on so, let me get to it.   First, let’s stop by the Realm of AEW as we saw the feud of all feuds start up as the Riders of Death exacted revenge on the Don Callis Family on this week’s Dynamite. I have to say I couldn’t be prouder of the display. Everyone went out and nailed the assignment. I have no notes. That was exactly what I was hoping for and I was not disappointed.   You see, when they have fun, we have fun. That was awesome! Everyone came out ready to play and play they did. I appreciated how Callis sat in on Commentary and did all he could to discredit the Riders and Jon Moxley. I just wanted to playfully point out that Mox isn’t a sociopath. I know Callis was jus...

RAW Says Hello & Good-bye to Ireland...

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?   A good MLK Day to you if you get to celebrate it with a day off. That happens to be my fate at the moment and I have enjoyed the day thoroughly. As for the Wrestling World, it’s fairly quiet at present but I have a couple things to chat about so, let’s get it over with then we can get to lounging however we please.   We start in the Realm of AEW as we check on the percolating Future and I would say the first bubbles have started to rise to the surface. On this weekend’s Collision, we saw Don Callis himself get a few of Jon Moxley’s feathers ruffled. Mox did try to just walk away. I would presume that Mox is fully aware of his… “tendencies”. Yet, taking the High Road did not save him. The Callis Family is large and members were there to greet Mox with what they would feel is a well-overdue beatdown. The Riders of Death were quick to swoop in and back them off but the gauntlet has been thrown to the ground. If that doesn’t light a feud, I ...

A Good Saturday to You, Enthusiasts! How are you doing? So, a bittersweet day in the WWE Universe, wouldn’t you say? We bid John Cena adieu as his in-ring career draws to a noble close.  I feel I should say a few words on the subject, given the event. *Ahem* I was never a John Cena fan. He seemed…ridiculous if I’m honest. This preppy hoodlum? Is that what it is? Then it morphed into The Marine and as far as I could determine, he’s never even been in the military he just sort of fit the part. Then that turned into the incarnation of recent years that basically was a “civilian marine” who lived with determination, valor and honor.  In a place like the WWE Universe, especially 20-25 years ago, in retrospect, I see why this all came to be. When I returned to wrestling some 12 years ago, Cena’s presentation was pretty much what you’ve seen. He put on a decent show and could handle himself on the mic. Say what you will, he did the job well. When the “Let’s go, Cena!/Cena Suc...

SmackDown Hands John Cena His Flowers...

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?   Enjoying this Friday? I’ve had better and I’ve had worse so there will be no complaints from me. As for the Wrestling World, there’s not that much going on so this shouldn’t be that long of a post but I got a few things to chat about so, let’s get into it.   First, allow me to restate my thoughts on the Paramount “hostile” counter-bid to Netflix’s offer to acquire Warner Bros./Discovery. I looked into what this means exactly and apparently, the “hostile” side of it is that Paramount is essentially going over WB’s head and attempting to cut a deal with the shareholders directly. From what I gathered, this is kind of hit or miss but makes it clear that Paramount does mean business and pledges to give the shareholders a better deal if they opt to side with them.   I still don’t know if that changes anything but to me, it seems that Paramount is hoping the shareholders are more swayed by greed than principle. Not sure it’s the best s...

SmackDown Clears the Way for Survivor Series...

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?   Enjoying this Friday? Getting used to the time change, if it applies? Can’t say this is the most exciting end of the week but some beneficial changes are pending on the horizon for me so, can’t really complain.   As for the Wrestling World, there are a few things going on but we’ll only touch on one issue because I keep seeing it pop up but besides that, it should be a short post. So, without further ado, let’s get to it.   As many of you may have already heard, Ridge Holland now going by his real name, Luke Menzies, has got himself fired from WWE. Word is that he bad-mouthed them on social media and the response was to be expected. Unfortunately for him, the timing couldn’t be worse. On top of that, he suffered an injury working a TNA show and may have to get neck fusion surgery. Worst case, the man is out of action for about 2 years with a family to feed and house.   The dire circumstances have forced Menzies to resort...

RAW Starts Prepping for Survivor Series...

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?   Getting through another Monday? That’s me for sure. Well, we got a couple things to chat about so shouldn’t be that long of a post but we’ll see where we end up. Ready to get into it? Here we go.   The Saturday Night: Main Event has come and gone and it was pretty standard I would say, like a polished weekly show though some would say it could have been cleaner, especially when it came to Jey Uso. I’ll just chalk that up to him staying in character.   He does seem poised for a Heel Turn.   I would say this show was a clear demonstration of “displaying realism” as none of the matches were stellar but they were hard-fought and do progress the general storylines in play. Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes opened and many took to social media to protest the treatment of McIntyre. When can the guy get a break was the general consensus.   Personally, I feel him swinging and missing again is par for the course. That’s a big pa...
