SmackDown Brings Us to the New Business as Usual

What’s Going On, Enthusiasts? Found new things to occupy the time with?   I’m in California so, it’s looking like I have to self-entertain for a few months.   I think I can do it.   We’ll see if I don’t and end up on the news.   In any case, it’s another fairly slow news day in the WWE Universe yet, I can now comment on using WWE Talent for audience members.   Personally, I think how they were used has a lot of potential.   They did exactly what I would have done with them in the end and put ‘em to work when the brawl between Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre broke out.   That leaves the door open for true crowd participation.   They could also go rogue and challenge people in a match.   That could be a way to introduce some NXT Call-Ups.   I love the potential here.   Since they’re earning their paycheck to stand there, might as well be an actual part of the show.   I hope they keep it up until the real people audience is back again.   May give these newcomers a real taste of what exi

RAW Will Take a Few Moments to Honor Our Fallen Heroes...

Happy Memorial Day, Enthusiasts. I’m not sure of what’s the best way to approach this holiday. I don’t have any direct connections to fallen military heroes so, I’m just taking advantage of having a holiday.   I’m trying to be respectful about it, though.   I do appreciate the sacrifice.   Those brave men and women are certainly better than I.   In any case, there’s not too much going on in the WWE Universe at present.   It’s the equivalent of a slow news day.   The most interesting tidbit floating around is that the WWE will see how using willing talent to provide some audience feedback during the matches goes over.   I’ll have to see for myself before I can comment.   I’ve seen it on AEW and to me it feels a bit forced but maybe WWE’s guys can make something out of it. As for tonight, RAW has the Ladies in Charlotte Flair, Nia Jax and Natalya in a #1 Contenders match.   If I remember my information right, I think the plan was to have Jax get into it with Becky Lynch but since th

SmackDown Leads Us into Memorial Day Weekend...

Happy Friday, Enthusiasts! I know the bulk of us have been staying home but I’m so in the mood for this upcoming 3-day weekend.   Can’t wait to just check out.   But, before all that, we must have the bi-weekly conversation regarding the WWE Universe.   The main headlines concern the unfortunate passing of Shad Gaspard who apparently drowned after saving a child at the beach.   Word is that a riptide carried him out and that was that.   I was not familiar with this gentleman yet, these sorts of circumstances are always bittersweet because in order for someone to live, someone else had to die.   Let us hope this child understands the sacrifice and pays it forward in life.   Something else floating about is news of Jim Cornette’s response to Becky Lynch’s pregnancy.   I listened to some of the podcast and Cornette just comes off as a crotchety old man, to be honest.   If Lynch wants to go be a mom, why not?   She’s not getting any younger and if that was an aspiration of hers, now is

All Right, It's Back to Business. RAW Sets a Course for BackLash...

A Good Monday to You, Enthusiasts. Did you have a good weekend?   I did.   My Sunday was especially lazy.   Now, I’m ready to get back to it. So, we’re in limbo as we see what the WWE does to lead us into Backlash.   It’s a slow news day, WWE-wise so this will be a brief post.   The most going on appears to be the speculation of Drew Gulak’s status.   He lost to Daniel Bryan on this past SmackDown and the rumors floating around lean toward Gulak being up for grabs.   Apparently, Gulak didn’t read the signs and made the mistake of asking for more money during these uncertain times.   I appreciate fellows like Gulak because they represent the tradition of actual wrestling.   This skill is underrated in these times of pomp and circumstance so, gentlemen such as he have to work extra hard to get some recognition.   Unfortunately for Gulak, the general public isn’t hungry for this sort of talent and so, we’ve made our peace with Bryan when it comes to that sort of thing.   Not that there

"Big News" Digested. Back to this SmackDown Business...

A Good Friday to You, Enthusiasts. Well, Ms. Becky Lynch definitely did have some big news.   To be honest, didn’t see it coming.   I know that she was dating Seth Rollins but as I said when I found that out, I didn’t think it was that serious.   I don’t know…let me put it this way.     It seemed more to me that Lynch was enjoying dating and Rollins probably wanted to put a ring on it.   Don’t blame him.   Not sure he could do much better but I’m not sure Lynch was ready to hang it up just yet.   I have to say I’m on the, "this wasn’t quite exactly what she planned" bandwagon.   Hope she’s happy with the outcome anyway.   Life does tend to work out like that. In any case, back to the present and able-bodied of the WWE Universe.   Tonight's SmackDown  will proceed with the Fallout of Money in the Bank as Otis makes an appearance on MizTV.   And Charlotte will return to brag about picking on the newbies down in NXT.   Also, they’ll be a tournament to determine the new I

MITB Was Great Fun!...RAW, How Do You Expect to Keep the Partying Going?...

A Merry Monday, Enthusiasts! My goodness!   Money in the Bank was a lot of fun.   See what a little bit of polish can do.   This seems like a real wrestling establishment for like the first time in maybe ever.   I’ll always love the Attitude Era but you got to admit, it wasn’t great television.   It was great trash television…big difference.   MITB was the best bit of television the WWE has presented potentially, ever.   Yes, there were some goofy bits but that comes with this wacky universe.   It has its own sense of humor.   The cameos, for the most part, went over my head but what I enjoyed is that it looked like everyone who participated had a blast.   That’s the sort of thing that has to happen if we’re to get the best out of the roster.     It can’t feel too much like work.   That’s why some of us are so envious of the players.   We have to go to work for a living, they get to go have fun for our amusement.   Last night was a fine example of it.   I hope they can keep this up w

Well, the Date for Money in the Bank Is Here. Think Most of This Has Already Been Decided....

A Good Sunday to You, Enthusiasts! Are we ready for Money in the Bank?   This is one of the more intriguing PPVs simply due to circumstance.   WrestleMania worked with an editing treatment so what will they do with MITB?   Well, what we have to hope for is that they don’t overdo it.   WrestleMania was handled tastefully.   What we don’t want is the action getting overshadowed by flashy editing and potential special effects.   What the WWE brings is more or less akin to the circus.   Now the circus concept has been refined more to the Cirque du Soliel sort of presentation in response to the humane treatment of animals.   Wild animals probably shouldn’t be trained for our amusement but since we humans have the ability to consent to spectacle, we are now the ones who subject ourselves to it.   It’s only fair.   So, the WWE shouldn’t ever want to lose a live audience but given times like these we must all become adaptable so this is the WWE’s test to see if it can produce good content li

SmackDown Does Its Duty and Prepares Us for Money in the Bank...

Happy Friday, Enthusiasts!   How’s everyone doing?   Still sane, I hope.   So, SmackDown now has to provide its offering for Money in the Bank and before we get into that, I feel I just have to comment on the end of this week’s RAW .   It’s clear that most don’t really care for this observation be it due to its potential controversy or not but, Drew McIntyre was quite, “off-brand” if you get my drift.   Now, I don’t mind this, mind you but the point I’m ultimately making is one of consent.   One should choose an alternative lifestyle not administer it.   Now, I understand that the hetero-normative way of life could be said to have been imposed but it concerns the propagation of human life, not a person’s right to choose one’s lifestyle.     I only make this statement because though he and Buddy Murphy went on well after the little kiddies had gone to bed, the clear demonstration of domination/submission could be debated in terms of appropriateness.   One must be able to choose this

RAW Asks Who's Interested in Money in the Bank?...

Image
Good Evening, Enthusiasts! Still quarantined?   Yup, me too.   Well, we’ve made it to RAW’ s Go Home Show for Money in the Bank but it appears that not too many people care as the ratings remain low.   When I think about this, I can attribute this to many things.   Many would state the seemingly obvious by railing on the content but for once, I can’t really complain about it.   I know we’ve all suffered through worse and the numbers were better then.   So, how should we interpret this?   Well, first of all, let’s consider circumstances.   Perhaps some simply don’t care for watching wrestling without the audience.   I do admit, it’s like a well-cooked meal that needs some salt or maybe a bit more pepper.   Yet, I like the action enough to keep tuning in.   I can accept that others can’t see the point.   I saw this a bit in myself when I checked in to see how AEW was doing.   Looked like I was watching Ring of Honor.   Both are fine promotions but clearly second rate when it comes to p

SmackDown Sees If It Can Make Itself into a Show Before Money in the Bank...

Happy Friday, Enthusiasts! I hope you are finding ways to stay relaxed and sane.   I definitely have my ways.   So, next week we have the Go Home Shows for Money in the Bank and to be honest, both RAW and SmackDown have been very watchable of late.   I know many live to bash the WWE but with all my years of TV watching, this is the most palatable it’s been since I’ve started watching it again.   I know so many “remember when…” but we also know that now, a lot of that stuff wouldn’t fly anymore so, I’m all for the modernization and improvements. Others may complain that there’s not enough wrestling or that it’s poorly booked but all I’m really looking for here is entertainment.   Let’s be honest, please.   This is not a sport, it’s “sports entertainment”.   Personally, I view it as professional rough-housing but that’s not my point.   I think if you want the gritty, auditorium feel you’re in the wrong place.   Stick to those grass roots shows or watch Ring of Honor or AEW.   I don
