SmackDown Starts to Wind Down for the Holidays to Wind Up for Day 1...

A Good Friday to You Enthusiasts!

I hope it finds you well. So, we all know what the big news is. Let’s just dive in, shall we.

Ah me, it looks like WWE wants to nip potential problems in the bud going forward. I suppose Jeff Hardy’s release shouldn’t be too much of a surprise seeing how he was “sent home” for his recent departure from a house show match. In the real world, that’s what getting sent home tends to mean. The question is why. Everyone presumes it’s alcohol/drug related. It is in his history but I honestly thought something may have just gotten into his guts. I hope there was a true offense and he’s not just getting fired for a sketchy meal. WWE needs to establish a sense of credibility not come off as if they’re operating under a hair trigger. It’s hard to say if we’ll ever get the full details.

Another bit of unfortunate news is that Chris Jericho has had some sort of medical event. He was hospitalized in the UK while on tour with his band, Fozzy. Recent reports have him on the mend but we never like hearing about people in ill-health. Let’s wish him a speedy recovery.

Something that isn’t so surprising is that Johnny Gargano has returned to the Indie circuit. He appears to have let his WWE contract expire. We’ll see if AEW picks him but this departure seems to make sense. Like with Adam Cole, no one is afraid of Gargano. He too looks like someone you’d work with as opposed to someone who you’d see weekly in the ring. Not sure what he brought to the table overcame that. I respect him for taking his own fate into his hands. There’s a good chance he would have gotten forgotten about on the WWE roster.

So, where does that leave Kyle O’Reilly? Don’t know. I will say he’s charismatic so there’s hope for him but that may boil down to chasing the 24/7 Title. He’s not intimidating either. People in this boat need to band together and think of fun stuff to do along with wrestling. I’m all for equal opportunity wrestling but everyone has to accept some truths. WWE fans don’t care all that much about pro-wrestling. They generally look for someone to kick an ass. But, a good match is a good match. A good time is a good time. If O’Reilly can adhere to those facts, there’s hope for him.

And so, that brings us to tonight’s SmackDown. We should have Brock Lesnar in tonight which is already confirmed. Randy Orton and Riddle have a visit for a Tag Team Triple Threat and Naomi will see if she can get Sonya DeVille off of her once and for all. I don’t know, DeVille tends to be persistent 😉 Anything else, we have to wait and see. Funny tweets and Likes get retweeted. Old habits are dying hard in the WWE Universe. We’ll see if people catching wise prompts WWE to try the same.

See You in a Bit,

-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
