Hell in a Cell Is Old News! It's All About Money in the Bank, Now...

How’s This Monday Going for You, Enthusiasts?

I hope it’s not too much of a drag. At least it’s coming to a close, right? So, Hell in a Cell has come and gone and it wasn’t bad, per se. It wasn’t “must see” by any means but I don’t feel my time was wasted. This is life in the WWE.

Let’s start with the match of the night. For me, it was Bayley vs. Bianca BelAir. Bayley has really come into her own and really sold her side of the match wonderfully. BelAir brought her special talents to the night too as she simply destroyed Bayley on a ladder. Regardless of who you were rooting for, that move was hard to deny. That’s the sort of display that resonates in the WWE Universe. We can’t help but take note of an honest ass-whooping. BelAir proved she can dish one out. Noted.

Alexa Bliss and Shayna Baszler weren’t all that bad until the “mind control” was introduced to pull in Nia Jax. Oh boy, where to begin. Again, moments like this are my case and point regarding suspending disbelief. We know Bliss is not supernatural. I know we’re supposed to play along but given the medium of live entertainment, how and why would we? This is not Broadway. We haven’t settled down for an evening of Wicked. It’s HIAC and we want carnage (within reason) rather than faux hocus-pocus. We might as well be playing make-believe with some 8-year-olds. This is where you lose people. Either WWE is insulting people’s intelligence or they themselves aren’t very smart. Either way, that’s not a sentiment WWE wants to perpetuate. This is what allows me to make the searing comments that I make sometimes about WWE. They leave themselves open and you start to wonder, why?

If you’re at the top of the heap, you want to stay on top of the heap. The way they carry on sometimes, you’d think they don’t care. Again, that sort of tell allows observing parties to judge and not judge favorably. If WWE wants to maintain a position where they can gloat, they have to get in front of or at least cover up these blatant flaws. Leaving them open allows lowly binks like me to tear ‘em new ones. I’ve got 7 years of blog to prove it. Information like this could be used against them in the boardroom. Why renew the contract when the content is obviously subpar? Why buy the company (if that possibility was ever out there) if it’s in need of a complete overhaul? That’s not a sell that one profits from. If they know what’s good for them, they’ll stop dragging their feet on these key issues. Only they lose the longer they go.

All in all, Baszler has been a trooper and hopefully she’ll be rewarded for it. Yet, as I said last post, she should have made Bliss listen to “reason”. She could maintain her street-cred that way.

As for the main event with Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre, it took a little while to get going which is understandable with these 2. They kinda take themselves too seriously. That’s why their matches can be stiff. They’re trying to be warriors out there and not so much entertain. I’m not going to say that this is a bad thing because they probably appeal more to those stern types but they can read as buzzkills for those looking to have a good time. WWE will have to keep this in mind when using them. Not everyone will appreciate what they bring to the table.

As for the match, MVP interfering was not surprising. This allows for plot twists. McIntyre could set his sights on him and/or jump Lashley backstage. It gives him motivation to act out. Not sure that’s where it will go but those are the easiest directions. McIntyre certainly sold his disappointment, though. I’ll give him that.

As for other news circulating the WWE grapevine, Kevin Owens is taking some time off. That I don’t blame him for at all. I think back at Backlash he took a nasty bump and probably has been playing through that among other nicks and bruises this entire time. His time off is definitely deserved. Let him rest up, think of some ideas. I can understand him being tired.

There’s more rumors n’such going around but a lot of it has yet to develop into anything of substantial note. I’ll let it percolate. When it comes to tonight, RAW doesn’t want to dwell on HIAC fallout . It’s going right into Money in the Bank with qualifying matches. The one nod to HIAC comes in the form of what would probably have been a HIAC dark match like 3 years ago. Xavier Woods will take crack at Lashley now that McIntyre is out of the picture. Do hijinks ensue? I wouldn’t put it past them. Regardless, funny tweets and Likes get retweeted. Can’t say what we can expect tonight but the early reports aren’t too bad. We got some time until MITB. We’ll see if we get a decent show in the meantime.

See You in a Bit,
