SmackDown Assesses the Royal Rumble Fallout...

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?

Well, I hope. As for what’s drifting through the Wrestling Grapevine, there are few things to discuss. I think I found some noteworthy tidbits. Shall we have a brief chat?

What grabbed the most attention from me is that Nick Khan made an appearance on CNBC and shared the viewpoint that he feels WWE could be sold within “3 Months”. It’s not clear to who but it appears to be felt that this should be done sooner than later. I’m not sure how the pending lawsuits for Mr. Vince McMahon may impact that timeline. That may be the reason for expediting the process. Legal procedures are notoriously lengthy. For the sale to get tied up in litigation could drag the process out for years and potentially affect gains as someone has to pay for all the legal fees. We’ll see what comes to pass. All I hope for is that it ends up in the right hands and is not simply flushed down the toilet for billions of dollars.

In lighter news, Dominik Mysterio continues to troll his Dad, the illustrious Rey Mysterio. Dominik and the Judgment Day did a bit with Papa Mysterio, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods for an upcoming NASCAR event set to air on FOX.

I have to say, I’m real impressed with the fun Dominik has been having being a heel. He comes off like he’s 16-years-old so, to see him being “tough” is always amusing, regardless of him being like 7ft tall. He’s a skinny Baby Huey. But he’s been hilarious. It’s been a lot of fun. I don’t know how he’ll segue back into Facedom but at the moment, I hope he just enjoys his “bad” run.

In other news, there’s a lot of talk for Sami Zayn to take a shot at the title given all the recent drama with the Bloodline. The Royal Rumble ending as it did, what’s next is a big question. Many feel that Zayn could make a sound case for a title run but is it believable? I don’t think it isn’t, but it would have to be done with cunning.

We see Zayn. He’s a vegan, for the love of Mike, so he’s not going to be a “big guy” but that doesn’t mean he’s ineffective in the ring. Personally, I haven’t been blown away with his skill but he can make intelligent moves and that, to me, is the key to getting the little guys and gals their just wins. The story of David and Goliath is a common tale and in just about every early Jet Li movie, there’s a face off with someone twice his size that he manages to best with speed, skill and a little savvy. There’s no reason others can’t follow this method.

If Zayn is going to vie for the Undisputed Championship, he’ll have to be smart above all else. Roman Reigns is playing “delusional Heel” at the moment so there’s plenty of room for Zayn to blur the narrative and ultimately get into Reigns’ head, leading to a sort of self-destruction. It’s a plausible angle but I don’t know if it beats out Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns as a headlining match for say, WrestleMania.

What they could do is have a no-stakes match. It’s more to settle any bad feelings, sort of thing, a one-and-done to finalize the score. That could be done on a SmackDown and in the event that Zayn wins, there’s no rush to get the title off him. He just gets street-cred which I think plenty of us would be fine with. I wouldn’t complain if they keep it competitive and smart on Zayn’s end. We don’t expect Reigns to be a Mensa Member so, him getting flummoxed into a loss doesn’t really affect him too much. Everyone should have an Achilles Heel of sorts so that the impossible is possible. Reigns could even trivialize the loss with some sort of bogus excuse, the lights were too bright or something. That’s enough for me.

And so, that brings us to tonight’s SmackDown. It’s the Fallout show and naturally we should get some response to the Bloodline’s disassociation with Sami Zayn. I suppose we’ll also see how Jey Uso is handled as he made it clear he couldn’t stand for the immoral stance Reigns instituted at the Rumble. Here, there will be fallout for sure.

Also, the Ladies will make their offerings for the Elimination Chamber. Ricochet and Braun Strowman will team up to take on Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci for a shot at the the Tag Team Titles. And Sonya Deville will have at Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Title. This could be an interesting night so, if you’ve got nothing to do, feel free to join me on Twitter. We’ll have some fun with it.

See You in a Bit,

-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
