SmackDown Tries to Smooth It All Over for Elimination Chamber & WrestleMania....
Happy Friday, Enthusiasts!
Enjoying the start to
the weekend? Well, I’m certainly glad it’s here and I’m looking forward to some
sleep but you know there’s some stuff to talk about. I’ll stop the chitchat and
get right to it.
So, WWE has a bit of
pickle it would seem. The “Match of the Modern Era”, The Rock vs. Roman Reigns
isn’t the hot ticket everyone thought it would be because of Cody Rhodes’
BabyFace appeal. The fix? Have Rhodes “finish his story” against Reigns. Okay,
so, when do we get Rock vs. Reigns? I still want to see that match someday. So,
when?
On Feb. 8th,
a press conference was held to address some of these issues and whet our
appetite for WrestleMania 40 and it did for me for the most part but there are
still a few holes in this story. Will it be enough? Many are upset The Rock
inserted himself. It kinda threw off the whole thing but I didn’t really mind
it. I have become accustomed to WWE doing whatever. I don’t feel it’s that
serious to care about. Yet, as we all can see, some people do. Where’s the
middle ground? I hope that gets more or less figured out between now and April.
Personally, I would
double back to Rock vs. Reigns. They can go ahead and have Rhodes face Reigns
but with all this backlash, it’s unlikely now that Reigns retains. So, how does
Rhodes beat him? I’m thinking now…with The Rock’s help. It’s not a Triple
Threat. The Rock interferes. Perhaps this is where he commandeers the Bloodline
to take Reigns out when the going gets tough for Rhodes and that interference,
of course, cheapens Rhodes’ win. Naturally, this puts a bee in both Rhodes’ and
Reigns’ bonnet.
If The Rock is Heel
now, then this is feasible. He runs things now and he doesn’t like how this is
going. He can even profess to be doing it “for the fans”. They want a Rhodes Win,
don’t they? There, here it is. I suggest this because it can allow for a Rock
vs. Reigns showdown and it can set up a Rhodes vs. The Rock in the future as
well. It doesn’t have to be drug out until next year but it opens up some places
to go that could be fun. I’m just throwing out ideas but I think they should
make the most of all the parties involved. These are all good workers and we
can get good entertainment out of all of them and I think that should be the
real prime directive.
Let’s not forget that
Seth Rollins is in the mix as well. Who will he face now? Well, given how
things are shaking out, I think it’s fine if he sits it out. Yet, if he decides
not to, Drew McIntyre seems the likely candidate. I would suggest The Rock as
well but I just see Rollins getting manhandled in a match like that, especially
with him coming off an injury. I’m thinking let McIntyre “take” the Heavyweight
Championship for now and let Rollins heal up fully. They can have a rematch
once Rollins is able. We’ll see if WWE comes up with a better idea.
In any case, Triple H
will be on SmackDown tonight to address all this “mess”. A lot of
commenters are mentioning that Reigns and/or the Rock should be here after that
press conference but, man people are missing the point. Being part-time is part
of being a Heel in WWE. You take “full advantage” of having the top spot. Think
of your place of business. Is the C-Suite always there? They take 2+ hour
lunches, work “remotely” at will. Come in when they want. It’s the same diff.
No disrespect to those who still work hard but that’s the point of “making it”,
at that point you can coast. You only jump in when there’s a problem. So, people
complaining like that are giving themselves away. They believe this stuff. It’s
always kayfabe, people. Sometimes real life slips in but it’s always kayfabe.
Remember that.
Anyway, as for tonight’s
show, I’m sure we’ll get some highlights from the press conference. Bayley will
settle back into being a Face. Mia Yim will see if she can put a dent in Bianca
Belair to get a spot in the Women’s Elimination Chamber Match. And we’ll see
the “little guys” in Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate take on the “average guys” in
Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa to face Finn Bálor and Damian Priest for the
Tag Team Titles. For all else you’ll have to tune in and see for yourself. The unofficial
watch party is at 8pm PST and for those of you who can’t stomach Twitter/X
anymore, Blue Sky is now up and running. Feel
free to partake there. I’ll be posting on both platforms so, take your pick. Just
don’t forget to lighten up. This is all fun and games.
See You in a Bit
