SMACKIN’ IT DOWN: What We Got to See Last Night… Sept. 5th, 2014
It would appear that the WWE Powers That Be have started to
listen to the clamor for better product.
Also, word on the street is that there’s been a switch up in the writing crew but, we’ll have to see if that actually leads to improvement. Nevertheless, it looks like Creative took a
bit of a step back and let everyone a little loose when it came to being on the
mic. I guess seeing how the shit-talk
worked on RAW I suppose they figured,
“Why not?” Can’t hurt at this point, right.
And it does allow us to get to know a little bit about everyone aside
from their scripted personae.
As for the show itself, since the word was out on what happened,
I would say SmackDown is where we
have the best chance to simply critique execution. Cena started it off and he got the crowd
going. Hyped up his upcoming rematch at
Night of Champions and worked in the Network plug. Did his job as did the Authority goons in the
guise of Korporate Kane and Seth Rollins in rubbing in how they could muck up any
one of Cena’s plans, should they choose. Then, enter Reigns to plug his
upcoming rematch with Randy Orton, since I hear they’re reworking the Night of
Champions cards, and he's game for a fight too. And then, to make
things interesting, we get some Chris Jericho and the Wyatts. With all this piss and vinegar about, here
comes Triple H to keep the chaos from breaking out right then and there. If they all want to fight it out, fight it out
they will in a 10 Man Tag Team Match. *shrug* Fine, whatever.
After that, we get some more Bella business to provide
context to for Brie’s match against Paige.
Same old, same old there. Then we
get into a match between Ziggler and Cesaro that was fairly entertaining. They seem to like to wrestle. Sheamus
ad-libbing on the side with commentary definitely made it fun. Glad they’re loosening the grip when it comes
to how wrestlers present themselves. Hope the trend continues. Anyway, Ziggler
wins and Sheamus “Brogue Kicks” Ceasaro to pick up the save.
They fill some time with the typically odd StarDust promo,
though, I do like the transformation. It’s
better than being the guy who looks like a gay porn star…or Mac from Super Troopers. Yet, that would be awesome if he acted like that.
Cut to, a match between Jimmy Uso and Heath “Dave Mustaine”
Slater with Jey “injured” on the sidelines. I liked how Jimmy got to show-off
some acrobatic skills. It was a pleasant
surprise that segued into Rusev’s and Lana’s entrance that was followed by Mark
Henry coming out to basically tell Lana to hush her mouth! He then likens her
to a common strumpet! *GASP* Steely gazes and angry fist shakes and “America !”
abound.
The Divas Brie Bella and Paige go for it next with AJ Lee
joining in on commentary. I liked her
shtick. She’s funny. Particularly like
the “fiery little tart” bit. That’s what
I’m talking about. Be tongue in cheek and talk shit. What else do you really need to do? Oh, there was some Divas wrestling too. Brie tried but still didn’t quite sell her
war call and offered some sudden support to Nikki who decided to show up, as
well to get pounced on by AJ. In the end, the "Paige was turned".
To follow, we have Bray Wyatt calling out Jericho …again.
And then Bo Dallas has a match with
almost forgotten Zack Ryder, jobber extraordinaire. The cracks begin to show with Dallas
as he rages to a win and on top of that Zeb Coulter’s back...All right.
Then it’s to the big 10 Man Tag. Personally, I don’t really get these massive “flustercucks”. Comes off like a mess of a square dance more
often than not. I liked how Big Show
started it off and set the tone though.
Pretty easy for him to stand his ground.
Henry roughed Rollins up, but who doesn’t. Big Show gets back in to give Erick Rowan and “Dad”
a.k.a. Korporate Kane a piece. Bray eventually gets in there to get creepy. Brings in his boy Luke and then eventually the
Heels take a page out of The S.H.I.E.LD.’s book and jump any Faces in the
vicinity. I can only imagine this was
courtesy of Rollins. After a scramble, Reigns gets tagged in and we see where the problems are.
But we also find that he can take hits like a champ so, it’s
still not a total loss. Then, Jericho
and Dad do-si-do. Bray crab walks and it tumbles into the alluded chaos that
started the show with the Faces giving all the Heels something to think about. So, are you ready for next time? Meh, not any
more than usual. Yet, we did get to see
what kinks need to get ironed out for some and what works for others. It’s all about consistency, people. You gotta
be like pizza. Even when you’re bad, you
should still be good.
