GIVING IT TO YOU RAW…What Happened Last Night (June 2nd, 2015)
How goes it, Enthusiasts? Did you like this week’s episode of RAW?
Have to say I enjoyed myself and for once, I had a lot of fun watching
it. There was something very “back to
basics” about it that I found refreshing.
It didn’t take itself seriously, it shouldn’t really in general, and was
funny. I didn’t fall over laughing but I
found myself understanding more than not,why I am a wrestling enthusiast.
We open in San
Antonio , Texas and
The Authority enter with Seth Rollins at the front of their V-shaped formation
and no one’s happy, not a bit, nope.
Once in the ring, Stephanie McMahon explains to us why Dean Ambrose is
just no good. He straight up stole the
Heavyweight Title Belt. Who the hell
does he think he is? A guy like that
only understands severe repercussions.
So, what shall we do with him?
Fine him? Suspend him? Fire him? Triple H then interjects, telling the crowd to shut-up in true Triple H fashion and then demands that Ambrose get his ass out
here and bring back the belt! We wait
some moments and it’s not Ambrose who appears but Roman Reigns, his known
“bro-friend”. He’s got some bad news,
Ambrose isn’t here currently. But, he
does know that Ambrose wants another title shot and preferably in a Ladder
Match. Yet, until he gets it,
unfortunately he’ll have to keep the belt as collateral. Stephanie basically says that Ambrose can go
to hell. We don’t negotiate with
“miscreants” like him! Besides Rollins
is Heavyweight Champion and doesn’t need to prove anything against the likes of
Ambrose. Reigns isn’t impressed. As a WWE Champion, Rollins kinda sucks in his
opinion. Rollins can’t help but step up
and say, your face! You so wish you beat me! I am the future and guys like you are only
good at moving stuff and taking out the trash!
I didn’t need you guys’ help when I was in the SHIELD and I don’t need
any goons or nothing! Rollins practically runs away with arms
flapping limply at his sides and Stephanie gets in Reigns' face, yelling at him
that Ambrose and he have to get their asses in line or else! And Triple H basically goes, let’s go with
that. I’m suddenly not so sure that
Reigns here is gonna participate at Money in the Bank. That is unless he wins his match
tonight. Why don’t you stay put? We’ll send somebody out.
As openings go, I think Seth Rollins was the
funniest with his pissy routine. He came out
pouting and I wouldn’t have cared if he had a full on tantrum. He kinda did. It was hilarious. I also like how it was a smooth transition
from Elimination Chamber back into regular play. Oftentimes, RAW just rehashes what happened and replays some of the matches but
I liked how this definitely felt more like a natural continuation as opposed to whatever else they decided to throw out there.
The Authority feel that “King” Wade Barrett
is a fair opponent for Reigns and our British heel acts his part. He’s not so much dirty as he is “unfriendly”.
He does anything to put a dent in Reigns
and manages to work him out. He takes
just about any opportunity he can to roll Reigns up, kick him, and blast him
with forearms to the face. He does
manage a Winds of Change that I thought was ambitious but, Reigns is as he is
and doesn’t really take this match personally but does demonstrate that Barrett
is of little concern. Barrett’s antics
are responded to with kicks of his own and tosses into turnbuckles and just,
you know, overpowering him as one would think. Barrett makes it interesting but he
ultimately succumbs to a Spear. Nevertheless, Reigns’ time in the ring tonight
isn’t over. While backstage, he runs
into Stephanie and Triple H. Great
match, pal. Hope your other one goes
well. Oh, that’s right. I guess we didn’t’ have time to tell
you. You got another match tonight and
it’s against Mark Henry. Better win or
you lose out on that Money in the Bank spot.
Good luck! And with snickers
they take their leave.
Next up, we get ready for what only could be
a thinly veiled squash match between Ryback and The Miz yet, when it comes time
for The Miz’s music to hit, we hear Big Show’s.
Looks like he’s back from filming and now he’s got his sights set on the
Intercontinental Title so by default, he has his eyes on Ryback. *Shrug* I see how it makes sense on paper but
I’m not looking forward to what we’ll actually see.
As far as matches go, we have a bit of a
2-parter with Dolph Ziggler going against Kofi Kingston. I’d like to see these 2 get more involved in
their matches given what they can do. In
this match, I feel that their prowess gets overshadowed by the “story” yet,
that can be allowed from time to time.
So, they hit their spots and Ziggler rolls Kingston up
for the win but with Kingston , now
a part of the New Day, they’re always close behind and Xavier Woods and Big E.
Langston appear. They jump
Ziggler not too furiously, you know.
They’re not that mean but, they definitely can’t be trusted. That being said, just when we start taking
guesses as to who’s gonna come out for the save, the Prime Time Players come
running out and presto change-o, we’ve got ourselves a 6-Man-Tag!
It would appear that the better moves were held
back for this exchange as our players do an involved, interchanging dance. Ziggler and Kingston trade
dropkicks. Langston steamrolls and
Woods, well, Woods slips in wherever he fits.
Yet, it’s the Prime Time Players who are the most impressive. For all their hilarious, promo shit-talk,
it’s nice to see them actually back it up.
Yet, towards the end, the New Day get all unfair and gang up on Darren
Young, which sends Titus O’Neil into a frenzy that results in a cleared ring and
The Prime Time Players & Ziggler standing tall with the win.
That brings us to Roman Reigns' second match
with Mark Henry. Well, it’s hard to say
who Henry is playing for at the moment but I don’t think it really
matters. He sells no matter what and
this time out, he does well or at least all that he needs to. Looks like he lost a few pounds and so he’s
moving a bit better in the ring and definitely gives Reigns plenty to
handle. The announcers speak of Reigns
being “hurt” from the previous bout but whatever. He keeps getting up anyway. Henry does his best to add to Reigns’ list of
ailments but Reigns implements some strategy and takes the fight out the ring
and manages to land a Superman Punch out there.
He then gets himself back in the ring just before the referee reaches
the end of his 10-count. Reigns gets the
official win but once Henry recovers, he shows him what he thinks of that with a
Worlds Strongest Slam. To continue to add
insult to injury, Reigns has another run-in with Stephanie and Triple H
backstage. How that one go, pal? You take a bit of a pounding? Yeah, well that Mark Henry can dish it
out. Hope it wasn’t too much for
you. You got 1 more match and it’s against
Bray Wyatt. Say “hi” to Sister Abigail
for me. And they leave him to swallow
that (^_~)
To follow, we have the Divas match with a
Nikki Bella again defending her title against Paige. Nikki has certainly improved since a year ago
today and it’s nice to see the progress.
I still don’t care much for her as a character but, dating John Cena has
its perks. In any case, they put on
another believable exchange. Nikki even
manages to pull off a suplex yet Paige isn’t there just to spar and once she
gets her bearings, she works up some momentum.
She knocks Nikki out the ring at one point and Brie, who manages to
sneak out without the referee looking, switches out with a reeling Nikki and
Paige, a little out of it herself, pulls Brie back into the ring only to get
rolled up for the Bella Twin win.
After that we get Randy Orton’s return in a
good old fashioned throwdown against Sheamus.
You know “The Viper”. He
establishes himself early just so we don’t feel like he’s been away. And though he has, you see that he only comes back
better. Yet, Sheamus now a heel, he’s
not going to make this too welcoming of a homecoming. Orton’s not worried about it. Been there, done that and keeps control of the
match. Sheamus does manage some offense
in the form of a knee to Orton’s jaw that knocks him out the ring. Orton’s not out of it though and he continues
to keep Sheamus' hands full. It
goes to the point that Sheamus stops giving a fuck and takes a “steel” chair to
Orton’s back, causing the disqualification but Sheamus doesn’t have a
care! He proceeds to annihilate Orton, a
fitting “welcome home” present.
Moving along, we get some NXT alums in the
form of Bo Dallas and Neville, another rematch from Elimination Chamber. It’s not much of a match. Dallas is
starting to go dark character-wise but I fear his eccentricities may not always
read. This would be a case of doing “too
good” a job of “selling”. If they ever
decide to associate him with Bray Wyatt, a lot of that will probably fade but
in the meantime, I just don’t want his character to take too many hits. I admit I was fooled when he first dropped. Irregardless, Dallas comes
out meaning business but his fiendish ways do him in from the start and the
moment he’s dazed and on his back, Neville hits the Red Arrow for the win.
All that leaves is the main event in Bray
Wyatt vs. Roman Reigns for Reigns’ entry into the Money in the Bank Ladder
Match. This was actually kinda fun to
watch and not only because we got to see Reigns get beat all night long. That being the theme of the evening gave the
night that sort of “old school” feel…kinda.
The story’s simple and everyone seems to be having a good time playing
it out. Wyatt is all over
Reigns at the start. Having recently dispatched
Ryback, Wyatt comes in fresh and confident and has all kinds of tricks to
weardown an already belabored Reigns.
He’s very not nice. He even
smashes Reigns’ face into the apron at one point. Dad (Kane), Rollins and J&J make their
way out too and begin their circling of the ring. The twist here is that when they start to
“interfere” they actually end up knocking Wyatt into Dad, setting him up for a
Spear and the win for Reigns. Don’t
matter, though. Either way they were planning on beating Reigns’ ass tonight. Hell, it’s mostly already done. They close in for the kill and wouldn’t you
know it. Ambrose made it in after
all. Well, that’s all Reigns needs to
get his wind back and the duo sweep and mop up the ring of Authority but for
Rollins, he gets left behind with Dirty Deeds.
So there you have it, Enthusiasts. Smackdown
should be able to do something with that.
See You Thursday,
-Nicole
