There Shall Be NO MERCY for Anyone!

Greetings, Enthusiasts!

Well, No Mercy is about to commence just a few miles away at the Staples Center and I don’t know…would you say there’s buzz?  Hmmm, I wouldn’t so much say that as there is curiosity.  There’s a lot of “hit or miss-edness” afoot and if not properly executed, this evening can potentially fall very flat.  For starters, we have the CruiserWeight battle that has Neville facing Enzo Amore for the title.  Now, we all know why this is happening.  With both Big Cass and Big Show out of action, what’s the WWE to do with Amore?  Well, see if he livens up the CruiserWeight Division.  It would appear that the WWE fan doesn’t care for the little guys boxing too much.  Though I find their in-ring antics more interesting and exciting, the WWE is still very old school and prefers to wait for the HeavyWeights.  Since it's obvious why this match is happening, We the Audience may or may not pay it much attention.  Neville’s prowess in the ring certainly can’t be disputed but with Amore clearly just kitsch, will a match-up be anything worth looking at?  We will see.

To follow that, we have the Demon on Demon match with Finn Bálor dancing with the charismatic Bray Wyatt.  Here we will get another look at whether the WWE can make this demon gimmick work.  It’s not impossible but it will take clever theatrics and presentation.  With Bálor looking like he’s a buck fifty wet, I’m not sure if We the Audience will ever fully buy his bouts unless he gets believably scary.  I’m sure he can get it going but it will be a delicate balance to maintain.  We the Audience can only suspend so much disbelief.

Then we have the John Cena vs. Roman Reigns “Anti-Face Match” of the century!  Word circulating is that Reigns is the favorite to win but how to put that over in a way that We the Audience will digest is the magic trick for tonight.  How will these polarizing figures gain some interest from this bridling crowd? I don’t know but like many of you, I’m certainly willing to find out and will be quick to taunt if it amounts to a big nothing.

Also, equally engaging if only to see how it plays out is the Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman for the Universal Championship match.   The thing about this match is that it could potentially set Braun Strowman up as the dominating title holder who it will be everyone’s goal to somehow defeat one day.  So, effectively, he could be Lesnar’s replacement.  Yet, will he captivate us enough for us to buy it or will he simply be that big guy who’s got the title now?

The WWE has interesting decisions to make as it evolves and proceeds.  As We the Audience become more cognizant of the concept of Professional Wrestling, what’s to keep us from writing it off as “stupid”?  Some would say they’ve already been failing at that for years but the loyalty of the fans keeps it going.   Will WWE Creative actually use some creativity in maintaining our interest or will they simply throw shit together that we can take or leave.  We will see.  We will see.  Funny tweets get retweeted as for Likes/Favorites, let’s see if someone actually stumbles upon some genius first.

See You in a Bit,
