RAW Screams CLASH OF CHAMPIONS!!!!....I Guess We Should Pay Attention...

Good Evening, Enthusiasts!

How’s everything?  Whole lot of same ole, same ole for me.  Well, that’s not true.  I’ve been writing a lot more 😉 So, with news that a wrestler needs to be savvy in the WWE Universe floating around, have you seen any differences?  Regardless of the lower ratings, I would say last week’s SmackDown definitely felt more focused.  There was one thing that I could get into but I’ll save that for Friday.  For the most part, it was a solid show.  Roman Reigns even showed that he’s more than willing to play so, that at least assuages concerns that he’d simply be Brock Lesnar’s replacement.  It looks like he’ll be doing his own thing going forward.  I still don’t trust that a match with Jey Uso will happen but whatever comes to pass, I just hope it’s believable.  These sorts of internal adjustments will take some time to fully resonate.

So, tonight’s the RAW Go-Home Show for Clash of  Champions.  This isn’t one of the more popular PPVs so I hope they start to use these more for experimentation.  Now that it’s so clear that there are problems with the content, I’m curious as to how WWE plans to correct these issues.  As much as a wrestler is expected to carry themselves, WWE has to at least have the wherewithal to build upon a good idea.  Their credibility is on the line whether that’s recognized or not and how they approach this issue could determine their relevancy in years to come.

Proof of this could be seen in the drops of ratings.   News of ratings on the decline are nothing new but there are definite patterns emerging during the monthly cycles.  One could blame it on last week being a “no consequence” week.  The week after a Fallout Show tends to be because everything is still in progress.  What happens at this time could very easily be rendered invalid by the time of the next PPV so, fans may just be thinking why waste time?  The WWE may again want to use these sorts of bye-weeks for experimentation.  Since the numbers are likely to be low anyway, might as well give some ideas a try.

As I said, some people missed out on last week’s SmackDown.  It was surprisingly coherent.  If I had a say, I’d angle to do that generally with the bye-weeks, make them better than usual shows.  It could be an indirect way to build interest.  Word of mouth does the trick more as better content prompts more engaging social media posts, building more curiousity.  Yes, it relies on stirring up some feelings of missing out but right now, many don’t think they are.  Heads are going to have to be put together to reconfigure things on a stronger footing.  Patience will be required as well.  I think in the coming years, we’ll soon see who is in fact a good investment and who is not.  Don’t be surprised if AEW and WWE start to function more like baseball teams as wrestlers get “traded” from one to the other and vice versa.  Wrestlers who didn’t quite get it before may want a second chance and those who never got it may fair better with AEW.   These will be interesting times.

But before we get to all that, let’s refocus on the now.  RAW appears to be lighting the fire for Clash of Champions as we have ourselves a Tag Team Triple Threat with the likes of Seth Rollins & Murphy, Humberto Carrillo & Dominik Mysterio and Andrade & Angel Garza all fighting for a shot at the #1 Contender spot.  The Street Profits will be waiting for the winner on Sunday.  Drew McIntyre and Keith Lee will try to settle their new beef.  And Braun Strowman will see if this very large Dabbo-Kato gets any of his hands.  Early reports aren’t so much predictable as they are understandable so…I’ll reserve judgement for now.  Funny tweets get retweeted and as for Likes/Favorites, well…be honest.  That’s the core of my shit-talk.  That’s why I hope it’s funny.  Just calling it like I see.  Feel free to do the same.  We’re not trolling, just stating our opinions.

See You in a Bit,
