SmackDown Sets the Tone for Now. The Royal Rumble Is a Long Ways Away...
Happy Friday, Enthusiasts!
Keep
hanging in there. I know plenty of you are tired of that, but persevere. We’ll
get through this. How’s about a taste of the wrestling rumor mill in the
meantime? What do you say?
So, a
tidbit that caught my attention isn’t verified but it could serve as
foreshadowing. There’s a photo circulating on Reddit that has Aleister Black/Tommy
End shaking hands with Tony Khan over a contract with AEW. The general sentiment
going around is that Black should have done this sooner but if this turns out
to be true, then this is gross evidence of WWE’s internal issues. Again, a good
wrestler is underutilized merely because the Creative Department doesn’t know
what to do with him. Absolutely shameful. As I’ve said before, a creative
department shouldn’t be strapped for ideas. They should be brimming over with
them. There should be too much to do, not too little. Pieces of information
like this don’t bode well for any given entertainment company. Now, given the
fallout with Zelina Vega, I can understand Black not wanting to hang around but
geez. This is what I’m talking about. How is WWE supposed to maintain
street-cred when they keep proving themselves wrong? I really hope this is
someone’s doctored dream otherwise, another one bites the dust. Conversely, AEW
would only benefit from the acquisition. If it does come to pass, it may be
best for both parties. It’s still a shame, though.
The other
rumors of interest mostly revolve around Goldberg. We all know that he has some
appearances left on his contract. The name of the game is making them
worthwhile. Well, I have no idea how they intend to do that but what I suggest
is finding some way to have fun with this. It makes no sense to try to build a
serious match. We all know that Goldberg isn’t hanging around and may be too
old to expect too much from but that doesn’t mean he’s dead yet. If Drew
McIntyre is to face him at the Royal Rumble, this match has to be a surprise. That
means these gentlemen have to get back to basics and figure out how to get us
interested in this fight. I would suggest a ton of shit-talk from both parties,
mostly funny that gets us in the mood for a contest for bragging rights. I don’t
know if the title should be up for grabs. If I’m Goldberg, I’d go in for the
pride. He could come in to shut this good for nothing, whippersnapper up. McIntyre
can keep the danged title. He just needs to know Goldberg can kick his ass. I
think that way Goldberg can come and go as he pleases with no real
repercussions. A lot of the gripes circulating relate to the title. What’s the
point of putting it on Goldberg if he’s not full-time or going to hang around?
So, have it be a non-title match. In the event Goldberg wins, the point is if the title was on the line it would
have been his but what this really is about is respect. “Dad” can still kick
your ass at least for the time being. Don’t forget it. We’ll see if they come
up with something better 😉
In any
case, tonight’s SmackDown comes off very indicative of the times. We’re in “No
Man’s Land” territory since the Royal Rumble isn’t until the end of the month. We’ll
be seeing a lot more mid-card action to see who’s worth giving more of a chance
to. Probably get a promo or 2 from the more established wrestlers. Big E will
face Apollo Crews for the Intercontinental Title and the pairing of Mr. Robert
Roode & Dolph Ziggler will take on the Street Profits for the Tag Team
Titles. It should be a good match. And there's late word that a Gauntlet Match is planned to determine #1 Contender for the Universal Title. As for the rest of the 2 hours, we’ll have to
check in and see. Funny tweets get retweeted and as for Likes, well we’ve got
all sorts of time. Let loose and have some fun. You may just stumble onto
genius.
See You in
a Bit,
-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
P.S.: My latest
article has posted. I took December off but now I'm back at it. This time around we revisit Paul Heyman. The man knows
what he’s doing, regardless of how you feel about him. You gotta give him that.
