SmackDown Takes a Crack at Keeping It Real...

Happy Friday, Enthusiasts!

How’s 2021 going for you so far? Personally, I can’t say I’m not enjoying myself but still, there are some things to be desired but, what else is new? Let’s get into what’s going on in the WWE Universe. That’s more interesting.

So, SmackDown has to follow up Randy Orton getting scorched by Alexis Bliss. Orton is cracking me up. He’s a lot more fun than I ever gave him credit for. Somehow, he’s selling this angle and hopefully having a great time with it. Now, I don’t buy this “seared cornea” or whatever they're saying his condition is but I do like how Orton is just leaning into becoming WWE’s public enemy #1. The thing is, if he’s going to continue down this ridiculous path, he has to make sure he knows it’s ridiculous. There should be humor with this angle mainly because it is so unbelievable. A tongue and cheek approach would signal to fans that WWE is playing with the idea of kayfabe. What a lot of fans dislike about the WWE Universe is that there’s a sense WWE insults fans’ intelligence. If they’re going to continue these over-the-top storylines, they should do so knowing full well that we won’t exactly buy them but if they’re entertaining enough and show the WWE isn’t above making fun of itself, they may just endear themselves. It’s worth a shot. It’s too obvious they’re kinda stumbling around in the dark.

There’s not much else going on in the wrestling world, at least nothing that has really caught my interest so, I’ll just take us right into tonight’s SmackDown. Looks like Jey Uso is next for Shinsuke Nakamura. Glad they’re remembering he’s a true draw. Rey Mysterio will try Baron Corbin on for size and we all know that Adam Pearce has to face his fate against Roman Reigns. Given his earnest plea circulating on Social Media, Reigns should “reconsider”. I hope this is already the plan but the easiest thing to do is to have Reigns “allow” Pearce to choose his replacement. That could potentially stir up the roster. It could also allow for some cross-branding which doesn’t necessarily need to be frowned upon since it’s for the Royal Rumble. Things should get kinda nuts. In any case, funny tweets get retweeted and as for Likes, well we still got a couple of weeks. Let’s just see if they keep us interested. They don’t exactly have to clean-up but they have to maintain some sort of street-cred. We’ll see if they keep us coming back.

See You in a Bit,

-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
