RAW Starts the Build to MITB...
Happy Independence Day, Enthusiasts!
Yes, it
was yesterday but we’re observing the holiday today, aren’t we. That’s why so
many are at home at the moment. I’m making the most of it. I hope you are too.
So,
what’s buzzing in the wrestling world? Well, we all saw that Zelina Vega has
returned to the WWE fold. Does that mean Aleister Black will soon follow? Well,
word is we shouldn’t hold our breath. According to his recent Twitch statement,
he’s not in any hurry to return but I hope that’s just what he’s saying to
maintain a sense of suspense. I’ve said AEW would be glad to have him but I
don’t know if that’s the best move for him. I take a look at AEW from time to
time just to see if it measures up to some of the hype I witness on the Social
Media platforms and to be honest, I feel Black is simply too good for them. I
feel the same way about Pac too. We know how his stint went with WWE and he had
every right to leave but now, I think if WWE has any good sense of its own, it
would have its eye on reacquiring him.
WWE’s
track record is humbling whether they like it or not. They have to admit that
they get it wrong from time to time. If they want to maintain some sort of
respect in the wrestling industry, these sorts of concessions should be made. Onlookers
such as myself are more than willing to let a promotion suffer by its own
delusions. WWE teeters on this precipice occasionally. In previous years, they
got away with it because fans generally didn’t know better. Nowadays, fans are
not so much more informed as more aware. We can tell what’s crap and Mondays
tend to be when WWE is chock full of it. We’ll see if they start to turn that
around tonight. Last week wasn’t awful but it’s still no comparison to SmackDown. This discrepancy is what allows
onlookers to ridicule and validates them looking elsewhere for their wrestling
entertainment. It’s quite fair and we look to see how WWE adjusts.
This is
always a good thing in business. This sort of competition ultimately keeps promotions
honest. WWE becomes deluded if they don’t make changes and that allows for true
evolution. There’s no way they want to lose their street-cred. The executive
egos want to feel empowered not clueless, especially if network executives can
call them out. They don’t want to come off behind or out of touch. Trust this
aspect of human nature. If WWE wants to maintain its better-known reputation,
it will work to secure itself. Performing in front of fans is another
incentive. They want to move the tickets, not be forced to give them away. The
only way that happens is better content. Let’s see if they start to wake up on RAW. Remember, I’m not just talking
here. They have the numbers and task before them. That’s what’s always going to
be the saving grace. If they want to maintain their perceived status, they’ll
have to actually secure their status. That has nothing to do with what anyone
has to say. The proof will always be in that pudding. Take solace in it. It’s
what will always keep them honest. People know bullshit when they see it. WWE
can only offer so much.
In any
case, RAW appears to be giving it a
solid shot. There’s still about 2 weeks before Money in the Bank and tonight, The
Miz will host a stacked Miz TV with Drew McIntyre, John Morrison, Ricochet and
Riddle as guests. Something tells me this becomes a tag match or something. MVP
will “suit up” for in-ring action as he partners with Bobby Lashley for a tag team
match against the New Day and Charlotte Flair will give an update on her “condition”,
whatever that means. Funny tweets and Likes get retweeted. There’s always more
of a likelihood of questionable matrerial on a Monday night. Don’t feel you
have to hold back. Call it like it is. I always do.
See You in a Bit,
-Nicole
