Say What You Will, Crown Jewel Worked. Now, Back to the Usual SmackDown Business...
How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?
So,
who caught Crown Jewel? It wasn’t half bad, to be honest. And to be real honest
1 of the matches pleasantly surprised me and that left me a little shocked. I
was expecting to cringe. Let’s break it down a bit before getting into Fallout
action.
In
one case, it looks like someone with access to WWE ears reads my blog because
they took some time with Mansoor’s and Mustafa Ali’s match. I was proud of both
of these gentlemen because the mild build prior led to a “meaningful” match
between the 2 that allowed us to see them both more clearly as performers.
Mansoor made it clear he’s here to work and so did Ali by being the good sport
by playing the bad guy. WWE is wise not to play the same bullshit they do in
the US by often making the hometown favorite lose. Yet, they didn’t just give
it to him either and Ali got to be punk-ass and beat him down after. Welcome to
the family, Mansoor! That’s how we do it in the WWE Universe. He’s main roster
now. Good for him! They really did a great job, held a good tone for the event.
Now,
I don’t quite owe them an apology but kudos to Goldberg and Bobby Lashley for making
their match work. I was not expecting half of that. They just walked it back
and made it a Dad on a Rampage. Goldberg can do that. And, funny enough, he’s
been a reoccurring character on the series The
Goldbergs on ABC so, he’s definitely better at presenting himself and
telling a story. Lashley does what he can in that department but it’s obvious
it doesn’t come naturally but he does appear to be working on it so, good on
him for the progress. Yet, that may be why Goldberg took the win. He can
perform even though he’s 85.
The
rest was solid though, I understand people being unimpressed with the ending.
Yeah, that’s how The Bloodline does, but it allows for typical heel drama. Let’s
be glad that it was done with purpose this time. This is an indication of
forethought which is something we’ve lived without in recent years. We may have
to have patience for once and I almost don’t know what to do with that. Have no
choice but to see if they make it work. It’s kinda exciting but naturally, let’s
keep expectations way low. We may just meet in the middle.
Let’s
just take a moment to touch on some other news in the wrestling world. There
was a lot of talk and not this week, it was very subversive a lot to pick
through. So, Eric Bischoff threw his hat in the ring on whether Tony Khan
should shut his mouth and his 2¢ boil down to shut up and wrestle. You guys ain’t
that hot. Khan’s like, “That’s funny…”
and Chris Jericho goes, “I may be reading the numbers wrong but last I checked,
we (AEW) were pulling ahead but that’s just what I saw. Guess I’ll just get
back in the ring and go to work…’cuse me.” So…I’m not sure what’s real here. I
think Khan may be getting the hang of public shit talk so, I’m not sure how
seriously to take him at this juncture. Bischoff may think he’s helping by
playing along or believes Khan lost his marbles. Jericho is just doing his job as
hype man and is talking up his team. He’s been consistent so, not worried about
him. Bischoff is looking for a job so this may be a sort of pitch. The sort of,
you don’t know what you’re doing kid, thing. Plant the insecurity in Khan’s
head so that he inquires. Depending on where Khan’s head is really at he may
bite or scout the next best thing. There could be something here or a whole lot
of nothing at all.
In
any case, to bring it back around to WWE, we have the Crown Jewel Fallout
tonight on SmackDown. Brock Lesnar is
mad as hell. The steam’s coming out his nose. I hear Roman Reigns plays it
cool. Sounds like a slow burn to catch a bigger beating. Perhaps in a couple of
years 😉 Fine by me if they sell it. And that’s what’s fun about it right
now, they just have to have fun and sell it. The major kinks are finally ironed
out, now to fine tune. We’ll see how long this takes. Reigns ain’t getting any
younger. Besides that, the Draft goes into effect tonight. We’ll see some new
faces and get a different look at some old but like I keep saying, don’t expect
instant turnaround. This retooling will be ongoing for a time. Get used to it. Funny
tweets and Likes get retweeted. Just try to have fun out there.
See
You in a Bit,
-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
