A Little AEW Music with Your SmackDown Fallout...
Happy Friday, Enthusiasts!
This is the
most disagreeable heat I have ever experienced in my life to date. Not only is
it really hot but even the rain we’re getting isn’t helping. The climate
she is a changing. Well, this time around, the wrestling world serves as a
welcome distraction. Let’s get into this CM Punk business and put it to bed
once and for all.
So, what’s
going on with this guy? Is this Punk business a misfired work or proof of the truth
that’s always lied beneath? It’s hard to say but the consensus is coming to the
conclusion that this was at the very least “premeditated”. From what I’m
hearing, Tony Khan knew Punk had some sort of bee in his bonnet just didn’t
know how big or what kind.
Let’s break it
down into its bare parts. What gets me about the whole thing is the timing of
it. CM Punk unloads after their All Out PPV, that he wins. Has a “fight” backstage
with people he’s known to “dislike” and then in the melee supposedly suffered
an injury that takes him out of the picture anyway. All the while there’s an “investigation”
in the works to determine who’s really at fault and we can assume after those
results are received “punishments” will be handed down.
With that
information, I can’t help but think it’s a work that didn’t land. I watched
most of that media scrum and Punk was more or less in character the entire
time. He was using his own and other’s given names at times but he held to what
he’s been saying in the ring and generally in public. Personally, I believe
this was an attempt to innovate that fans and onlookers took too seriously.
10-15 years
ago, this would have been a juicy story that we would wonder how it would be
solved in the ring or if this was some real shit that went down we all just
witnessed. We would have been buzzing! Nowadays, with general
conversations about mental health becoming normalized, we’re generally led to believe
and think that real disagreements are not solved with violence or passive-aggressiveness
or what have you. So, when Punk decided to “unload” it was not received as “OMG
he’s spilling the beans…” but as “Why is he having this discussion here?...” If
he really has a grievance, shouldn’t he do the respectable thing and hash it
out privately? In this case, this may be more a sign that Punk is simply getting
old not so much lost the plot. What sparked excitement in his day is now frowned
upon. He at least has the “out” with the backstage fight to either lay low
until he “heals” and/or publicly makes amends.
If this is a
work, in this downtime how to turn this into a plus should be devised and I
would think it could result in some sort of public showdown to lay it all to rest.
Yet, given how the fans haven’t appreciated the drama, Punk may have to issue
some sort of “apology” for his actions.
That’s the “work”
scenario. So, what if this is all real? Then I think the question of mental health
does become valid. Could Punk be walking around undiagnosed as bipolar or
depressed? I don’t think it’s too farfetched. That outcome is also simpler to
address because then it’s all a matter of getting him help. The only hitch
there could be Punk’s willingness. He comes off like he wouldn’t believe in “therapy”.
I could hear him going into another diatribe about how he’s gonna pay some hack
a bunch of money to tell him about the problems he already knows he has. And
with no real idea of what Punk’s life is like, how could this overpaid wise
Aunt/Uncle-for-hire tell him anything he doesn’t already know? I can see the
scoff and dismissal. Thing about getting help is that the party involved has to
want it. I get the feeling Punk likes to stew in his juice.
Nevertheless,
if it is real beef in effect here, then the name of the game is maturity. Punk himself
spoke of how a lot of his grievances come from people acting like children. How
is he any different by causing a big fuss and storming off? Granted, it’s par
for his course but if he wants any sort of atonement, he’ll have to admit where
he was wrong and at the very least endeavor to do better. Otherwise, they might
as well try to turn it into a work so they can at least get some action out of
it and maybe recoup any potential losses.
Yet, to close
on the matter, if this is all an ill-thought-out work, then my conjecture of
Punk being a WWE Plant comes back to life. If the fallout causes the AEW Realm
to sour on Punk, then I think it just makes sense for him to return to WWE. The
mission is aborted. AEW can fabricate an overblown “firing” and Punk can “go
sulk” for “X” amount of time only to return where he’s always belonged, back at
WWE. True, he has his beef there, but the primary “issue” has retired so Triple
H would have to deal with him. And like I’ve said before, H doesn’t have to like
it either. It’s probably better that he doesn’t. Now, some real fun can begin 😉
And so, that brings
us to tonight’s SmackDown. Drew McIntyre will have some words for the
Other Uso, Solo Sikoa and Braun Strowman will stomp around. Kinda miss that. Everything
else you’ll have to tune in for as they wrap up the Fallout for Clash at the
Castle. Funny tweets and Likes get retweeted. Go ahead and take a shot at it. There
are some good ones out there with all the drama.
See You in a
Bit,
-Nicole
