Summer Slam Is Done! Back to RAW Business...

Merry Monday to You, Enthusiasts!

So, how did Summer Slam go for you?  Personally, it seemed a bit toned down for me.  It’s usually a big-fucking-deal but this time around, it was just a big deal, kinda.  It was definitely important but I remember there being more advertising and all sorts of appearances by anyone WWE related.  If that was done, they kept it quiet or local because usually these guys are all over the place.  Not so much this time around.  It didn’t take away from the evening itself but I did notice the more low-key nature of it.

As for the match of the night, I would say it goes to the opener of Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler.  I don’t think they did anything all that spectacular but it was a solid match that set a good tone for the night.  My only real point of contention was Finn Bálor busting out the Dæmon Persona.  I don’t mind the alter ego but to get the concept to take, there has to be due process for the incarnation.  Baron Corbin didn’t do much but talk some petty shit.  He needs to do something like sabotage a match that’s important to Bálor, like there are title implications or it’s for some sort of redemption.  Circumstances have to be dire enough for the Dæmon to come out.  Played too arbitrarily and it’s not taken seriously. Sure the cats who liked it when they watched it in NXT will be thrilled but for mainstream appeal, there has to be clear reason for the Dæmon to be out otherwise it’s just hocus-pocus We the Audience writes off.  That’s just how I feel about it.

In any case, tonight we contemplate the fallout of last night’s events.  A few titles changed hands.  Seth Rollins has regained the Intercontinental Title.  Roman Reigns finally gets the Universal Title off of Brock Lesnar and Ronda Rousey is now the RAW Women’s Champion.  What happens next is hard to conjecture.  There’s plenty of talent on the roster but the rivalry between Rollins and Ziggler seems strangely well matched.  I have no problem with this blossoming into a full blown feud.  As for Reigns and Rousey, rumor has it that Strowman will now have sights set on Reigns so, he may not hold the title for long but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.  The fun is in the chase so, for it to become a bone of contention for the “Big Dog” may help his general character development.  In Rousey’s case, it’s hard to say.  I think the fear is that she’ll simply become the female Brock Lesnar and just hold the title for as long as she cares to but, I think she could be challenged. Though Charlotte is on SmackDown, she’s a feasible opponent.  Ruby Riott could be an interesting foe.  And I suppose there could be a rift between Natalya and Rousey since Natalya is a proponent of the Wrestling technique while Rousey heavily leans on Judo and MMA, their point of contention may center more on fight philosophy.  It could go a few places, the caveat will be whether it’s palatable.  Creative is not always a safe bet on good content.  We will have to see.  Funny tweets get retweeted and as for Likes/Favorites, we’ll see if they give us some fodder for genius.

See You in a Bit,
