SmackDown Sees There's Still A Lot to Do....
A
Tuneful Tuesday to You Enthusiasts,
It’s
tuneful because I’m listening to music 😉 So, RAW was… very okay last night
but that’s all right. It is because that
means they are experimenting or at least, that’s what they should be
doing. Expect these weeks prior to the
Go-Home Shows to have this sort of feel.
People aren’t fully engaged because Clash of Champions is one of the
less popular PPVs so this is a prime time to kick around ideas and see what
works. I wouldn’t say it was a total
loss but hopefully they’ve got plenty of notes to work with. Don’t worry guys, it should get better. Gotta crack a few eggs to make this omelet.
So,
for tonight I wouldn’t say that SmackDown
has to clean up the RAW mess as so
much set a better example for RAW to
follow for next week. There were some
long, not necessarily interesting matches last night. Perhaps SmackDown
will counter with some excitement. They’ll
wrap up the 1st round of King of the Ring with Mustafa Ali facing
off against Buddy Murphy and the old firm of Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable
reunite for a bout for bragging rights.
I don’t watch 205 Live but
word is that Murphy and Ali had a bit of a rivalry on there. We’ll see if it carries over. As for Benjamin & Gable…I don’t know, I
almost think they should get the band back together. They seem stronger together than apart and if
that gets them more TV time, well why not?
We
also have the on-going “mystery” of who’s out to get Roman Reigns and to be
honest, I have no problem with this melodramatic aside as long as they keep it
fun. What they have to do with segments
like this is remember the basis of the “joke”.
In this case, it is a poke at 80’s prime-time drama. This is wrestling’s answer to Dynasty and if you’ve ever seen that,
there’s got to be at least one fight every season, maybe a murder, kidnapping
or some sort of white collar crime. They
went to trial a few times. Now, no one
is going to believe a fabricated death, a kidnapping or a stint in a courtroom under
this format but a semi-serious whodunit with just the right dusting of tongue
in cheek humor could at least give us a chuckle. Think of it as counter to the 24/7
Title. If you don’t care for the Benny
Hill style hijinks, here’s some SNL-esque tom-foolery that may lead to a match
every now and then. The key is to keep
it fun so that we don’t care it doesn’t really have anything to do with
anything. It’s why this is a cool gig to
have. If they remember that tenet, these
asides should be the comic relief they’re more or less are supposed to
provide. If people aren’t throwing down
in the ring, they should be throwing down in some capacity outside of it. Make this fun, and they won’t have to worry
about ratings. It will be the place to
be again. Could even validate SmackDown being on Friday night. It’s just common sense is all. Funny tweets get retweeted and as for
Likes/Favorites, well I won’t say be stingy but don’t hand them out for
free. Wait to be truly entertained to
the point of witty genius. Then the
retweet and Like will be offered with aplomb.
See
You in a Bit,
