Here We Are...Payback!

How Goes It, Enthusiasts?

Good I hope.  So, right into Payback are we?  Well, I’m not sure what the reasoning is but I suppose it doesn’t matter. As usual for PPVs, I’m not going to comment on every match but I will give my 2¢ on the ones I find interesting so, naturally, I feel I have to start with the Women.  Again, they prove to be a blatant display of a lack of creative direction.  All this talent and WWE has no idea what to do with it.  It is a shame but let’s see what comes to pass anyway.

The biggest indication of this lack of direction is how the 2 obvious Tag Teams aren’t in the hunt for the Tag Team Title. Proof again of how Popularity rules in the WWE Universe.  The IIconics and the remainder of the Riott Squad are in a shits & giggles match that apparently gets Kick-Off status as Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler are pasted together to give Bayley and Sasha Banks some people to fight with.  What is that all about?  Well, it shows you who’s popular is all.  Not knowing what else to do, they’re slapping this together to see how it takes.  I don’t know what to say about that.  I guess one should reassess investing too much in this type of entertainment.  They’re clearly winging it.

Big E and Sheamus becomes the next match to look at for me because honestly, this may be the best one.  I say that because these 2 are clear workers.  They’re out there being professionals, doing their jobs ‘cause if they don’t, it’s hard to say what else they’d be doing.  The unfortunate aspect of this is that you’d think it wouldn’t come down to this but accept that is the truth.  These are the dudes who do it ‘cause they love it or have no other choice and of that lot, they’re the best of the best.  Respect the work they do out there.  They’re out there for different reasons.

So, that brings us to the obvious draw the Triple Threat between Bray Wyatt, Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns.  Well, this could be very interesting but all I’m really gonna say is that I think it’s foolish for Reigns to win.  Just because of the obvious.  Though it’s clear he wasn’t sitting on his ass, he hasn’t been in the ring as far as we can see.  His sheer lack of action should keep him from winning but that doesn’t mean we can’t get a good match.  I think if they all just relax and have fun, we’ll get some good action out of them, regardless of who “wins”.  Personally, given the players, I think Strowman is more in line to make a name for himself, especially how he was set up on SmackDown.  The Fiend/Bray Wyatt holds the title and is a fan favorite but the gimmick may be hard to maintain against a couple of straight shooters like Reigns and Strowman.  Personally, Strowman just seems like the more viable option right now.  Reigns comes off contrived and Wyatt is too abstract for my liking.  Strowman is currently believable. Don’t be surprised if Strowman just “happens” to win but I can see them leaving the title on Wyatt.  Gives fodder for a rematch on SmackDown.  Hopefully they make it a fun romp in the process.

So, that’s what I think.  Don’t think I’m not open to different opinions.  If you have a different take, feel free to share your thoughts.  I’m open to conversation.  In the meantime, funny tweets get retweeted and as for Likes/Favorites, well you see how it is.  Let yourself get inspired.  We’re not looking for meaning so much as insight. Have fun watching out there.
