RAW Leads Us to Summer Slam....

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?

It’s a slow news day in the wrestling world so this post will be brief. Just gonna touch on a few things and call it a day.

So, to start, let’s just address the status of Naomi and Sasha Banks. Word is that someone was instructed to remove them from the WWE roster but we have yet to get an official release statement from WWE. What do we believe? I have no idea. Naomi has been making social media comments that seem to lead people to think that the release is currently in process. The suspicion is that they are sitting through their non-compete 90 days. I suppose, but the lack of official statement is curious to me. Usually, WWE doesn’t waste time in cutting ties. I continue to speculate it’s a work but to what end? Don’t know but if it is a work, they’ll keep them out of action until they figure it out.

The most promising piece of news going around is that Bayley may soon return to action from injury. She posted a commemorative video to her Instagram account documenting her yearlong recovery. I love how Bayley has developed from coming up from NXT and I hope when she returns she can more or less pick up where she left off. I’m not sure what they’ll do with her. I can see her challenging Liv Morgan if she returns at Summer Slam. Isn’t Bayley the longest reigning SmackDown Women’s Titleholder? She could certainly return saying thank you to Morgan for keeping it warm for her. I see a random brawl in that scenario to be picked up during the following Fallout show. I don’t know if that’s what they would do but it tends to be the WWE sort of M.O. We’ll see what they do.

Also, speaking of SmackDown, it looks like Roman Reigns didn’t exactly move the needle this past Friday when he returned to SmackDown. Not really surprising with no action scheduled. Paul Heyman did earn his keep with his promo, but the ratings stayed around the same. Shall we call this “false advertising”? No, not really. We all know Reigns hasn’t exactly established himself like John Cena has but he’s clearly working on it. There are still a few kinks to iron out but he’s at least on a better trajectory. We’ll see if he and the Bloodline can have some more fun developing ways to drum up interest. WWE has to work on that in general anyway.

And so, that brings us to tonight’s RAW. We’re in No Man’s Land as set up for Summer Slam revs up. To set the tone, Brock Lesnar is scheduled to appear. It’s only natural since Roman Reigns got talked up last week, now we’ll hear what Lesnar has to say. Riddle will take a shot at the up-and-coming Theory to see who gets to gloat and Bobby Lashley will throw the US Title up for an open challenge. Whatever else happens, you’ll have to sit down and watch. Funny tweets and Likes get retweeted. It’s an interesting time. There’s not much to work with right now so, WWE has to more or less start from scratch. The shows haven’t been bad of late. Nothing mind-blowing but definitely more consistently palatable than what was going on a few years back. As I keep saying, the revolution is in effect. It’s gonna be quiet because the goal is not so much overthrowing the system as it is establishing a functioning foundation. Who would have thought?

See You in a Bit,
