SmackDown Stokes the Fires for Summer Slam...
Happy Friday, Enthusiasts!
There’s not a lot going on but what is, has people
buzzing. Let’s just dive right in.
So, it’s not a big deal to me but a lot of people are
still speculating what’s going on with Sasha Banks. Word is that her current
asking price is $30,000 for non-wrestling appearances. The lady has to eat.
Well, still not sure if that indicates the obvious but I’ll hold to thinking it’s
a work until WWE drops the official release statement.
A lot of people are also kinda rolling their eyes at her
asking price and that just indicates why I had a hard time buying her and Naomi’s
walk out. She’s a great performer but I’m not falling over myself trying to see
her wrestle. Not sure she has that much notoriety outside of the wrestling
world so, I was hoping this was an act. It could be a heel-turn and this time
around she’s full of herself. Kinda like how Carmella is playing up being the “most
beautiful”. She doesn’t look bad but saying she’s the most beautiful just can’t
be taken seriously. That’s why it’s more funny than sad. If Banks’ and Naomi’s
move is a work, they have to find a good angle to return on, otherwise walking out
may not have been the hottest idea.
The other bit of news is that WWE and the USA network are
kicking around the idea of going from TV-PG to TV-14. There was some talk that
this was going to go into effect next week but it sounds like someone jumped
the gun on releasing that information. Both sides may be considering the repercussions.
Commenters are saying that this is probably due to the recent sexual assault allegations
circulating about Mr. Vince McMahon. Kinda hard to keep things PG when you’re
always covering the kids’ ears. That sort of information is adult content.
The counter sentiment getting posted is that going to TV-14
won’t fix anything if the content is still shit. Yeah, well, they can experiment
with heavier themes and make the action a little more realistic at least. Fixing
the creative problem is not as easy as people tend to think. I’ll be the first
to say that WWE hasn’t even begun to tap into its potential but that’s the
thing about potential. There’s a lot of different ways it could go and how to choose the right directions isn't obvious. You need writers who get the WWE and then they
need to understand the roster so they can best put them to work. On top of
that, Management has to have a clear idea of what they want to have happen with
people. All of these things are fluid and to think they can be digested and
effectively applied tomorrow is unrealistic. That’s why I feel “the revolution”
is in full effect and it will be quiet because it’s just general retooling. Don’t
expect them to find the magic equation immediately. They will be experimenting
for the time being. A TV-14 rating simply would give them more room to maneuver
which shouldn’t hurt. We shall see.
In any case, we’re in the No Man’s Land space prior to
Summer Slam and we’ll see if WWE continues to slow burn drumming up interest. Theory
will grace SmackDown with his presence as MadCap Moss attempts to find
the right tone. Lacey Evans will remind us she’s no longer interested in
bringing down the mood with her hard-luck stories. And Natalya will face Liv
Morgan to get another shot at the SmackDown Women’s Title. You’ll have to tune
in for the rest. Funny tweets and Likes get retweeted. Don’t try too hard out there.
Like I said, they’re experimenting with it. Just stay vocal on what is and isn’t
working.
See You in a Bit,
-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
