Crown Jewel VI 2024 - Matches of Interest

 What’s Going On, Enthusiasts?

It’s another Crown Jewel and I’m not sure we can call it an “exhibition” anymore. It’s much more of a spectacle now, which is the natural progression. Imagine that 😉 The whole card has the potential to slap, as the kids say, but will it? It’s not impossible. Given what’s on the docket, these following matches are the ones I’m looking at. They give me a lot to think about.

We’ll start with Liv Morgan and Nia Jax. These Davida vs. Golitha matches are always amusing because it’s always how is that little one gonna do it? All Jax has to do is trip and Morgan is dunzo.  So, how do we stay invested in the match? It’s all up to Morgan and probably some interference from Dominik Mysterio. Is Mysterio about to get “squashed”? Or does Tiffany Stratton cash in? That would be the obvious route. It has been teased.

All I ever asked with these sorts of showdowns is believability. I don’t mind interference or slight cheating as long as it’s semi-realistic. We know Jax has to watch accidentally killing Morgan. Morgan has to be smart, quick and put up a believable fight. I’ll accept the DQ finish as well. As long as it’s fun.

Next one I’m looking at is Cody Rhodes vs. GUNTHER. What intrigues me about this one is its potential to fail. Not so much that it will be a bad match. If anything, that may be the problem. This match is looking to be quite textbook and the question is, is that boring? Now, I expect to be shown that it is very entertaining but would it be so much of a surprise if it wasn’t?

Rhodes is great but he is the personification of Paradise Regained. The quintessential hero’s one failing is that it becomes predictable. Rhodes will always be the “Good Guy” and as you can see, that gets boring. John Cena ran into the same problem. A flawed hero is an interesting one. Will Rhodes ever have this sort of epiphany? This may not be the place but it’s the sort of conundrum that makes it hard to get excited for the match. Nonetheless, I still want to see it. We’ll see if it hits the mark.

So, the last match I’m looking at is the possible Match of the Night in the US Championship Triple Threat with Andrade, Carmelo Hayes and LA Knight. This one could be a lot of fun. See, all our players have flaws. None of them are perfect but all of them “think” that they are. And on top of that, they’re talented. So, this should make for a good show. Yet, just as much as Rhodes vs. GUNTHER could steal the show. So could this Triple Threat fail. It looks good on paper. So, there’s the pressure to deliver. However, these guys have already entertained and I don’t see why they can’t keep it going. All they have to guard against is getting cheesy and/or overconfident. I’d lead with humility if I were them and just go from there.

They got the chops. All they can really do is relax and go for it. If the match is well mapped, there shouldn’t be too much of a problem. I’m looking forward to this one.

As much as people may have eyes on the Bloodline Saga, my honorable mention goes to the Ladies Tag Team Championship. Given their demonstration on SmackDown, they know what they’re doing too. They could very easily make a global statement in these politically polarizing times. Ultimately, that should only be an inadvertent effect. We’ve known these ladies are talented for quite some time.

And so, there you have it. Everyone else has to earn their keep and I don’t mind if they do. That’s the point, isn’t it? I should have talked about them. For the most part, everyone can hold their own so the real assignment is to keep things interesting and fun to watch. We’ll witness firsthand who fails and who succeeds.

The Unofficial Replay Watch Party will start at around 5pm PDT. Maybe a little earlier depending on when the replay is good to go. Feel free to catch up with me if you have other things you have to do.

See You in a Bit,

-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
