RAW Brings Everyone In to Kick 'Em Out for BackLash...
How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?
Did the weekend treat you well? I enjoyed mine, actually. Starting to develop my own plans for the future 😉 In the meantime, the Wrestling World is taking it easy at the moment. There are a few things circulating but nothing rocking the grapevine. Ready for a little review? Here we go.
In the Realm of AEW it would appear that Jon Moxley has dialed it down by half if you ask me. Didn’t even know a 3.25 even registered for Mox. That’s not even much of a trembler if we’re talking earthquakes. If you’re a California native, you may not even notice it. Is there something wrong? Is he sick? Got a fever? No, I think the Future means more to him than he lets on as it should. If properly executed, it does change the game.
I dare not speak too much until it’s done but let Mox do what he feels is best at present. What matters now is that the foundation is correctly laid. Not to say a faulty foundation would cause the whole thing to collapse but the real mortar for these bricks is believability. Ridiculousness will filter in. That’s fine. That’s what’s going to make the “real stuff” fun. But if done just believably enough, this could change how a story is told in wrestling. Let us allow it to continue to simmer. This is a house broth we want to keep over a low flame. The flavors should be quite full-bodied once the Future Manifests. All in good time.
On the outskirts of AEW’s realm, we receive an update from Darby Allin’s quest to scale Mount Everest. He filmed himself doing a simple skateboard trick on the summit and earned himself a World Record for doing so. Guess, most don’t think to do a kickflip on their Everest excursion. Not so surprisingly, Allin is catching a little flak for it.
If you do a little research, you’ll find that given Everest is the tallest mountain peak we know to climb, it is quite a mess. It’s such a treacherous trek that keeping it clean is kind of impossible. And so, it is strewn with refuse and even those who perished trying to complete the epic challenge. Many feel Allin’s little stunt is a bit disrespectful to the circumstances. I’m not so judgmental. Given what little I know of Allin, this seems very on brand and I’m sure he meant no ill-will. Now, if the likes of Logan Paul did the same, everyone would be more than welcome to let loose. Fuck that guy 😜
Over in the WWE Universe, many are still coming to terms with the recent cuts though, some feel that Braun Strowman may come out all right. There’s a sentiment that Strowman may become a sort of “seasonal help”. Word is that his hefty salary was a big part of why he was released. Yet, guys like him just aren’t lying around so, he may be called in to help get over new, large talent on occasion.
Nevertheless, WWE appears to be explaining itself somewhat by suggesting that those cut weren’t pulling enough of their weight to keep on the payroll, at least when it came to the NXT cuts. I wasn’t aware but I heard that Shayna Baszler helped out recently with a NXT show so getting axed kind of blindsided her.
I’ve said before that these dismissals do appear somewhat arbitrary and I still feel that those being considered should be given some opportunity to stay their executions just to ease any hurt feelings. I’ll be the first to remind everyone that this is a popularity contest but if we don’t even get a good look at the options, how are they going to get a chance to get over? I haven’t seen Baszler used effectively in months, maybe even years.
Many feel that her being an out and proud lesbian had something to do with her being let go but…I can’t say for sure. It’s an easy assumption to make but if she filled the seats, it wouldn’t matter. I don’t think too many people were off-put by her status. Makes sense given her presentation. I never cared but that Pure Fusion Collective wasn’t the smoothest move. Not sure whose idea it was but that wasn’t the note to go out on.
It’s not the best segue but it’s enough to bring us to this week’s RAW. It’s the Go Home Show for BackLash so we get a PPV in before Mothers’ Day. We can expect to see Penta aka Lucha-Mitsu ease JD McDonagh back into the pool. Iyo Sky will break in Roxanne Perez. Looks like Jey Uso will get tempted to put the Heavyweight Championship up for grabs. And Lord Seth Rollins and his new Court will further implement “The Plan”.
Replay party should get going during the 8 o’clock hour but don’t be mad if I don’t get started until 9pm PDT or so. Always got stuff to do at the start of the week. I don’t make the rules.
See You in a Bit,
-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
