WrestleMania 42: Night 2 - Matches of Interest

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?

Happy Day 2. Well, I liked Night 1, to be honest. It wasn’t a complete high or low but it advances the current state of affairs cohesively so…I’m not going to complain.

I personally thought GUNTHER vs. Seth Rollins was Match of the Night and that’s kinda not a surprise. Also wasn’t all that surprised with Bianca Belair’s pregnancy news either. That explains everything actually. Her “finger” has been “healing” way longer than 2 months.

I have to also acknowledge that I did pretty well calling how this was gonna go. Look at this long enough and the patterns emerge. I didn’t hate the finish to the main event. Cody Rhodes played a little dirty but only in terms of keeping up with the Game. Randy Orton is off his meds so anything is “fair play”.

They both end up “wearing red” but I found it unnecessary, though I appreciate the experiment with character development for Orton. He’s the proverbial lion with a thorn in his paw when wounded. Until the voices take over, that is.

All in all, it was fun. Realistic…enough. And it definitely felt like the half-way point. Like The Two Towers of Lord of the Rings. Now, that comparison is in sentiment only. They got the framework right not the quality. But that’s not what I need it for. It entertained and was nice and over the top like the spectacle was meant to be. So, now for the finish.

For Night 2, I’m also looking at 3 matches and I think it’s fairly clear why. The 1st one is the opener Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar. Everybody will be looking at this one and how it goes has huge implications for the trajectory of Femi’s career.

Everyone is agreed he’s going places but does that rise start here? Well, technically it has with it just happening but is this for better or worse? Many think he needs a win to get solidified but I respect the camp who think it’s too soon, ‘cause it is.

However, it doesn’t mean it can’t happen. They wasted no time with Stephanie Vaquer so I don’t see why they have to hold back. It’s just the task of it. Then what? Does Femi just rule or does he take on all takers with varying success? Option B is more interesting but I can see them sitting him at the top of the mountain just as well until someone knocks him off.

So, what about sticking with the status quo? Well, that’s no fun either, is it? I can see Lesnar going dirty and maintaining the status quo, but that’s what it is so again, it’s on WWE to make that interesting. It can ignite a “fit for real” feud but again, I’m not sure we want to see Femi and Lesnar battle forever. If they can manage to bring the Sabretooth/Wolverine type of element to life, they can go for it, otherwise I wouldn’t drag it out past SummerSlam.

After that, I’m looking at Finn BΓ‘lor vs. Dominik Mysterio. Now, you know how I feel about the DΓ¦mon. I’m all for it if it’s done right. If it’s gonna be some lame Party City display, don’t bother. So, ideally I want BΓ‘lor’s entrance to drop my jaw but I’ll accept it if it’s just cool.

Also, with this setup of betrayal and revenge, I also expect BΓ‘lor to win. I wouldn’t be shocked if some bullshit goes down and Mysterio wins but that should only piss off BΓ‘lor more.

Moreover, BΓ‘lor isn’t getting any older and Mysterio is not the type of character that needs to “get over”. Mysterio deserves to get his so, hopefully this is a high point of the night. I’m not really sure what the point is otherwise.

So, that leaves the main event, Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk. Most are expecting Reigns to take this one but I wouldn’t count Old Man Punk out. Punk is the “Best in the World” for a reason and this match should demonstrate that.

However Punk is old, and technically scrawny compared to Reigns so it is simply more believable that Reigns takes it. Regardless of Reigns being just a few years younger. If Punk manages a win it’s on his smarts and savvy.

There’s also a likelihood of interference in this one so, it’ll be hard to call just what happens when it’s all said and done. What’s clear is that any interference will probably be in Reigns’ favor. If the Usos don’t run out to save him, enemies of Punk will sabotage Punk for him. If something like that goes down, it will demand a rematch. We all know Punk wouldn’t go out like that.

That pretty much sums up my night of Night 2. Not sure how it works out but I don’t see why it can’t entertain. If anything, I would suggest they not think too much about it. The players are set and what to do is easy enough to figure. All they have to do is stay out of their way and have fun, of course. We’ll see if they make it so.

I’ll be cooking tonight but it shouldn’t take too long. I’ll be able to keep up. To curious to see how they wrap this thing up.

See You in a Bit,

-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
