Now Let's See If Stomping Grounds Lives Up to The Hype...
A
Scintillating Sunday to You Enthusiasts!
At
least, that is the hope. We are gathered
today for the inaugural PPV, Stomping Grounds.
As you can see, the theme is supposed to be an evening full of “Ass-Kicketry”
as everyone comes together to leave their foot in it! Now, the question is who will actually do that. There are a lot of titles on the line so expect
a lot of people to be “thinking” out there.
The prime directive will be winning or retaining the title, except where
that is a non-issue.
The
few places that could be relevant are the match between Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns. This is a “Platinum Hoss Fight” if I’ve ever
seen one so they’re going to have to manage just that and surprise us with just
how much of a beat-down it is. Now, you
know me. I’m not down for blood but if
they get creative with how they kick each other’s ass, they may just get the
shock of the night by being the match of the night. Don’t be surprised if this one opens.
Also, I’m
not sure if the SmackDown TagTeam Titles are on the line but a match that I
feel is sort of make or break is the one with Daniel Bryan & Rowan up
against Heavy Machinery. Here, Heavy
Machinery have to kind of establish themselves on WWE turf. I know they’ve done that in NXT but since I
don’t watch the Minor Leagues, they’re going to have to prove why they got
called up here. The same goes for the
match with the New Day up against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Here it’s seems like it’s a more obvious place
to go for sheer entertainment value but again, it will be up to the players to
demonstrate that they do in fact mean to put their foot in in it, as in laying
waste to all in their path. With this
set, I expect an ample dose of comedy but if it all can be accomplished, this
PPV may just live up to its namesake.
Everyone
else, unfortunately, has a tougher job of selling their matches because in the
face of title changes, these new developments should hold some weight. As I voiced in a previous post, Stomping
Grounds is a place where the WWE landscape could be changed and we could start
to get some insight on how they plan to proceed in the face of AEW. With them offering a show free to view next
Saturday, WWE has to display that they know how to execute a PPV and not just that, a PPV that can establish storylines that we can invest in and
follow. They kinda have to suck us in
with this one. Give AEW a little run for
their money. The arbitrariness will have
to serve a point from here on out or the WWE will find themselves having to
validate themselves in the face of better planned/thought out offerings. Here’s a chance to prove why they are “Then,
Now & Forever”. Funny tweets will
get retweeted and as for Likes/Favorites, try not to be stingy but remember
what the WWE has to do. Don’t give it to
‘em if they don’t earn it.
See
You in a Bit,
-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
