SmackDown Is Left to Save the Day...Again...

Greetings Enthusiasts!

Here we are at another Friday night and I have to tell ya, the stakes are kinda high.   The WWE is seeing staggering drops in ratings of late and now have no choice but to turn things around.  Fortunately, SmackDown has been holding its own of late.  It’s RAW that has to make serious changes.  Personally, I’ve been voicing in this here blog that the WWE should be prepared to lose fans as they retool itself.  Some people may simply not like what it has become and that’s okay.  I can’t vouch for them when it comes to putting poor content out but I can understand it not suiting everyone’s taste.  The way they may continue to go, hopefully with improvements, may not go over well with all fans.  A lot feel they should mimic AEW and NXT’s style and presentation more and show less of the corporate glitz it seems to.   I don’t mind the glitz because the WWE definitely had its grittier days and it’s good to see that they’ve “made it” and it should be clear to a person on the roster that when they’re hired they have “made it”.  Understandably, the realities of that could make some rethink what success is for them but for the most part, if the WWE is top of the heap, it should look it.  I don’t mind it being Cobra Kai and I think they should go ahead and play into it.  They’re already suspected of trolling their fans, might as well have some fun with it.

To make matters worse, we also got word of the extent of Xavier Woods’ injury.  Apparently, he’s had surgery and is expected to be out of commission for at least a year.  Yup, a year.  That sucks!  They may let Big E. and Kofi Kingston do the occasional singles match but it looks like The New Day will be a tag team for the foreseeable future.  Not entirely bad but I’m sure not ideal.  Yet, this is the stuff of the professional wrestling industry.  People have to be ready for someone to get injured and roll with the punches.  If they play it right, we could potentially get some pleasant surprises out of it.  Yet, let’s not hold our breath just yet.  SmackDown has the unpleasant job of keeping this ship afloat.  They can’t afford a bad show tonight and that goes double for RAW.  They’ll try to keep interest with a face-off between Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez.  And The Miz is planning to host his MizTV with Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan as his guests.  That may be a good example of a bit that could very well be hit or miss.  Flair sounded like he couldn’t drive home the last time we saw him and Hogan is still trying to live down his racist sentiments.  Not sure when it’s ever good to present a Drunk and a Bigot to promote a show in a country that has questionable political operations and relations.  The WWE gave itself the task of validating their methods.  Now, we see if they have any success.  Funny tweets get retweeted and as for Likes/Favorites, well we’ll have to see what we have to work with first.  We can’t be too liberal.  They definitely need to show they’re aware of and addressing the problems.  Yet, we shouldn’t expect immediate success.  It may take some time for them to find a new tone and approach that they can sustain with ease.  Expect this to be a bumpy ride but at least they have the incentive of keeping their jobs.  Use some patience but don’t waste your time.

See You in a Bit,
-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
