Survivor Series Carries on While WWE Remodels...
Happy Thanksgiving, Enthusiasts!
And a productive Autumn to all others of the
world! So, there’s something kinda different about this year’s Survivor Series,
isn’t there. Something is going on, isn’t there? Now, don’t take this as
gloating because I never thought WWE would admit to needing to fix itself. But it
appears that it actually is trying to correct itself and I am honestly at a
loss. I thought I’d have shit to talk about until they ran themselves into the
ground. Now, it appears that it wants to survive. That is a different scenario
indeed.
So, that kinda explains things, doesn’t it? They
have to completely rethink the model and if they want to boast and gloat, they
have to have the best. Technically, they do but now, they really have to if
they want to validate shedding dead weight. Let me just say I’m all for them
being “Cobra Kai” or "Slytherin" or however you want to think of it. They just have to own up to it to a certain degree. A person
has to understand what they’re ascribing to. If you sell on one thing and then
willing participants get another, that’s a bait and switch. A person has to
have the right to choose the path. Let them know what they’re signing up for at
the beginning so that filters out the more sensitive/potentially problematic
candidates.
That said, let’s take a look at some potentially
interesting matches. The first of which being Damian Priest vs. Shinsuke
Nakamura. I call this out because there’s been little build. The Tribute to the
Troops may have been an attempt to account for it but for those of us who don’t
have cable, it was nearly impossible to catch up on. So, this is a place where
WWE Management can admit they failed. They made the attempt at…something but
that didn’t work and now this match is a bit of a surprise. There’s like no
beef or if there is, it’s too obscure to generally recognize. WWE has to accept
that since it’s generally viewed as subpar, casual fans aren’t exactly going to
go out of their way to catch up on it.
The first match of true interest is Charlotte
Flair vs. Becky Lynch. Given all the talk, these ladies have to make sure they
deliver a great match. I like how that’s the task here. With talk of equality
so prevalent nowadays, they now have the stage to prove a point. Let’s see if
they do it.
So, given matches of interest, that leaves Big E
vs. Roman Reigns. Let us just admit that this is a true test of Big E. Reigns
has proved himself, believe it or not, and though it took years, it is bona
fide. Big E too, took years, is he now bona fide? Both cases prove something.
WWE is the mainstream option for a cult diversion. Let’s face it. Pro-Wrestling
is on the same level as Bowling. It’s just flashier. People know of it but they
don’t exactly offer up it’s their hobby. And in both cases, both probably aren’t
going to go away.
Today, we see if we inaugurate a new superstar. Is
Big E of “superstar” status? I wouldn’t say no. He has put in the time and is
entertaining. I caught the WWE spot on
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. I would say he is but I understand why many
may not think so. WWE tends to go for the obvious great specimen. That’s why a
lot of people don’t like Roman Reigns. Just poke around social media. A common
sentiment is that he is the type of guy you don’t invite to the party because
he would probably steal someone’s girlfriend. I wouldn’t say Big E is in the
same column but he is a formidable opponent and that’s what matters.
What should keep WWE relatable is that the best
prosper there. As much as they may prefer great specimens we all know it takes
more than that to be a star. Anyone can be a star. I think Mick Foley is the
ultimate example. No one would think him great to look at him but, we all know
that he is. If you can sell your shit, you can sell your shit. Tonight, we see
if Big E can sell his shit. I’m rooting for him.
So, that’s what I have to say about Survivor Series.
I respect what’s in progress so I’m not going to expect to be blown away but I
will respect that they are searching for how to do that. It’s attainable. I
will never say it’s not but what they must respect is there is no 1 way to do
it. A good show is a good show. Let’s see if we get one. Funny tweets and Likes
get retweeted. It’s the last WWE PPV of 2021. Let’s enjoy ourselves.
Happy Holidays,
-Nicole
Alexis.
