The OverHaul Is in Progress - SmackDown Advises Us to Keep Calm...

Well, I Guess It Wouldn’t Be Politic to Say, “Happy Friday.”

So, looks like WWE is serious about this revolution. I still see the rumors about a sale but you’ve seen enough of WWE to know how they operate. As is, they don’t get nearly as much as they could if they got it operational for once. If they sell, it will be in 5-10 years when they have this shit figured out. It’s an overhaul, my friends. You all know they’re trying to make money. They get a fraction of the potential if they sell now. You all know they’re going to get all they can if they ever do it. You’ve got that intel already.

Anyway, that being said, yes it always sucks when you see layoffs but if WWE is doing this to make an omelette, that omelette better taste damn good in the end. Let’s hope that’s what the end result turns out to be. Regardless, of this round’s releases I thought John Morrison was the most surprising. Yeah, he’s cheesy but he is pretty awesome. Not many can do what he can do. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more to this story. I would almost expect him to transition into being a coach of sorts for the acrobatic types. If not with the WWE, perhaps his own gym but something tells me WWE may make him an offer first.

So, SmackDown finds itself in an unusual position. They don’t really have to “clean-up” but they do have to give people a reason to watch Survivor Series amidst all the bad press. On top of that, AEW produced a solid Dynamite this week raising the stakes at this precarious time. MJF is starting to catch fire and looks like CM Punk is setting up to douse him. Both Dante Martin and Lio Rush make you think about the future. And Eddie Kingston, with the street-cred circulating is taking it to what he knows, the streets. These were compelling spots and something that WWE definitely lacks.

How will WWE respond? Well, so far with what they always do but this makes me think that they are probably rethinking some things for Survivor Series in the face of it. That’s where things get interesting. That’s the thing about this Industry. Though fake, it thrives off what’s real no matter what. It needs it for the stakes and the interest. Like right now, what’s really interesting is how WWE keeps it interesting. AEW let it get a little “personal” and that gave it some oomph that WWE inadvertently suppresses due to a focus on presentation. AEW is gritty and sometimes that’s more satisfying but that requires some slumming. WWE is well produced but it can come off sterile and uninspired. Both, have to find that happy medium and at the moment, AEW may be a bit closer to the sweet spot. Yet, that doesn’t mean WWE won’t make up the difference. They have to get focused on how they’re going to navigate this space in earnest. We all know they’re looking to make money. Can they somehow endear that to us? That will be the question.

So, for tonight we see how SmackDown fares again in the face of less than ideal conditions. I hope for their sake the “ingredients” are mise en place. This is not a time to be scrambling 😉 Anyway, Sheamus should make his way back tonight which should work out fine. Roman Reigns plans to disrespect King Xavier Woods, let’s hope there are repercussions. And Shotzi Blackheart makes the cut to face Sasha Banks. It’s not the best day but that’s a good opportunity for her. Let’s watch and see who makes the most of it. This could be a very interesting Sunday.

See You in a Bit,
