RAW Keeps the Royal Rumble Go-Home Show Low Key...
A Good Monday to You, Enthusiasts,
The wrestling world
has some grumblings making the rounds. Let us chat about it for a bit. What
else would we do 😉
So, #FreeAli is a
thing now and the pseudo-Kaepernick vibes with it. It’s drumming up talk.
Commenters have plenty to say but I’m not sure where this all goes. Does Ali
become some sort of activist from here on out? Does he find a place at AEW?
Somewhere else? Or does WWE give him a valid shot, quieting all naysayers? I
really don’t know. Whatever happens, I just hope that it's fair. I’ve already said
that WWE shouldn’t hold on to him if they have no plans for him. Ali has been
vocal and proactive in getting on TV and performing palatable content. You can’t
say he wasn’t trying to work with WWE. WWE doesn’t need to look petty right now.
It generally has to counter a lot of bad press. They need to either let Ali go
with a healthy severance and minimal non-compete or they give him a fair push
and see where it goes. WWE wants to wash their hands of this matter so that when
it’s all said and done, Ali either proved them wrong or right.
WWE needs to make
sure that their business practices are at the very least fair from here on out.
They have to see how Cancel Culture is a very real thing and people do not need
much to boycott a brand. I think the only thing that keeps WWE afloat is whether
or not there’s a true grievance. That’s the beauty of kayfabe. Is what everyone
complaining about even real? Regardless, if WWE wants to be slick for any
purpose, they need to show that they are reasonable and fair. Results should
stand on their own and disputes should be settled. WWE can’t set people up to
fail with crappy gimmicks. And wrestlers can’t blame WWE when the fans don’t
bite. WWE should want a performer to rest on their own merits. The bells and
whistles should be left for WWE. That way when the discussion of how a
performer is used comes up, the situation would be what it is. Either the
performer learned to sell their style to the audience, or they didn’t. WWE shouldn’t
want much room for discussion.
That being said, Bruce
Prichard anticipates Mr. Vince McMahon is destined to reign for a few decades
more. The sentiments of no one being able to pry WWE from his cold dead hands
may ring true someday. Prichard has Mr. McMahon set for the title of the original
Montgomery Burns. He’ll live to the ripe age of 540 as far as Prichard is
concerned. Well, sounds like Prichard likes keeping his job. I think Triple H
shouldn’t be ruled out if his health maintains, even if it’s for show only. I
don’t know if H has the best business mind for a global brand. I didn’t mind
what he did with NXT, but it did have a very inclusive feel. Like it was H’s
bar or something. You knew what to expect, what the music and fare would be,
that sort of thing. It was kinda one-note. The main rosters couldn’t be managed
like that. It’s too about the Lowest Common Denominator, that all important LCD.
If you’re dressed right and have the money, you should get in. Whoever gets
that, has a chance at running things. There should be a little something for
everyone.
That’s all that
caught my interest. There are other little tidbits but I’m not sure they’re
worth commenting on just yet. As for tonight’s RAW the experiments
continue as Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley have a “Weigh In”. Most are saying what’s
the point, since there are no weight limits for this bout. Well, I did suggest
WWE pick a lane. It looks like they’re gonna try fake UFC for a bit. Lashley
and Lesnar should be technical heavyweights, might as well confirm it. And at
some point, Randy Orton and Riddle will challenge the “academics” of the Alpha
Academy. For everything else, you’ll have to show up and watch. Funny tweets
and Likes get retweeted. We’ll see where this experiment goes.
See You in a Bit,
-Nicole Alexis
