Saturday Night: Main Event - Matches of Interest
How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?
Here’s
to the reboot of Saturday Night: Main Event! I have no recollection of
the original but I hear that there will be a lot of nods 2 the old school
presentation. I have no problem with it. Kinda looking forward to it, even
though I think the 80s was the tackiest decade ever. Taste was an afterthought.
I hated every second of it but, it wasn’t all bad. I’ll accept the nostalgia.
Since
this is like a free PPV, I’ll have Matches of Interest, but I’ll keep it short.
It’s only a 2-hour show. The first one I’m looking at is Sami Zayn vs. Drew McIntyre.
I could look at the Kevin Owens vs. Cody Rhodes but that doesn’t have the stakes
that Zayn vs. McIntyre does. In this case, McIntyre needs the win.
McIntyre is faux shooting interviews and moping around. He’s method acting himself and I
like it. There was something missing and maybe going back home helped address
it, but whatever it is, it’s working and I think he should just lean in and have
fun. Kevin Owens is a good marker for the future. At some point, he should
start to make fun of himself but for now, he should be wallowing and pissy and
just the “motherfucker” that he is. Don’t ask why it works, just appreciate
that it does. I say McIntyre obliterates Zayn but Zayn should put up some of a fight.
What happens should be Zayn knowing that something else is going on with
McIntyre and he should have hoped for a stomach bug. McIntyre is going to take
it out on him and he just should have known better.
What
would be funny is if WWE played a substitution out and had someone else
entirely face McIntyre. Only under those circumstances would I expect McIntyre
to lose. He’s “honestly” thrown off by the changeup and just can’t adjust on
the fly. He’d try to just use the new mark but this guy should be on to McIntyre’s
mood and adjusts. Simple as that. He just recognizes it’s best to let him
self-destruct, whoever it is.
And
for the question: Why does Zayn have to take the L? It’s because he doesn’t
need the W. As far as we’re concerned, the guy wins. It’s in the way titles don’t
acknowledge. He’s an awesome dude. What
more can you ask for? He wears that Championship 24/7 so if they reinstate it,
they should start there 😉
The
second match of interest will be the for the Ladies US Championship. I say this
because it’s a monumental time. The Ladies are starting to get the fairness and
airtime they deserve and I appreciate the acknowledgement. I also can respect
that they have Chelsea Green and Mia Yim the finalists. Both have been working
hard but don’t have the same clout as say Bianca Belair or Becky Lynch but they’ve
been working. No one can deny them that and they do deserve something.
So, I’m glad for this.
Conversely, the established stars maintain their credibility. Say what you will, but aren’t you supposed to pay to see them? The mid-card, crass as it seems, can have it. Not that the Stars think this way but, it can be interpreted as such…that’s all I’m saying.
So,
that’s what has my interest. I’m kinda excited, to be honest. It’s like
unexpected fun. Guess they gotta do something for the masses with RAW going
to Netflix. We’ll see how it all works out. The unofficial watch party will be
at 5pm PST. Come see if you’re curious like me.
See
You in a Bit,
-Nicole
