SmackDown Says Goodbye and Then It's Back to SummerSlam
How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?
Well, you know what
the big news is. This was a sad week for the Entertainment World in general.
They say celebrity deaths happen in 3s and this time around we had Malcolm-Jamal
Warner, Ozzy Osbourne and Hulk Hogan. It’s an odd assortment that conjures all
sorts of feelings.
Many of us grew up
watching Warner on The Cosby Show. Bill Cosby’s tarnished reputation
aside, many of us can’t say he wasn’t a familiar face. I was young during the
series so I was often called my family’s Rudy. I wasn’t aware of his more
current projects but it was sad to hear he passed. He was relatively young.
Osbourne always held
my imagination as I was a rocker growing up and you had to know who Black
Sabbath and/or Ozzy Osbourne was in order to talk the shop. He was always fun
to parody and came across like a kooky uncle to me. He will certainly be
missed.
As for Hulk Hogan,
well, we all know he shot himself in the foot a few years ago and was hobbling
about with the proverbial limp ever since. I never really cared for Hogan but
it had nothing to do with his views, though I generally don’t agree. It had
more to do with the 80s. Though I was born at its onset, I always found the period
in history tacky and tasteless. Some styles I just couldn’t bring myself to
wear. I never got the neon, the legwarmers, the sweatbands, the crimped hair or
the bold makeup.
I wasn’t interested in
wrestling then, but I knew who Hogan was. Who didn’t? Yet, to me, he was one of
the larger icons of that gaudy decade and so I simply tuned out when he came on
or was the topic. When the truth about him came out, I felt mildly justified.
Never liked him anyway π
Now, we come to terms
with his passing and I will simply offer my condolences. Hopefully, he serves
as a cautionary tale. We all make mistakes yet, we don’t have to be consumed by
them. All the man had to do was show some humility and it seems he was unable.
Don’t let your legacy get besmirched by sheer ignorance and ego. We can all do
better than that.
In other news, I won’t
stop by the Realm of AEW this time around. The Future seems to be well on its
way so, I’ll let them do what they please for now. As many of you know, Hangman
Page and Jon Moxley are set for a re-match. I don’t know if it will have the “Texas
Death Match” stipulations but as with these gimmick matches all I ask is that
Mox keeps the bleeding to a minimum. We’d like to see the Future manifest not
get dashed in a senseless accident. Be careful is all I’ll really say.
As for the WWE
Universe, there will be a tribute to Hogan for sure. Then, we can expect a Petite
Ladies’ Match as Alexa Bliss takes on Roxanne Perez. The Wyatt Sicks will be
kind enough to defend their Tag Team Championships against newly paired Andrade
and Rey Fenix. We’ll see how long it takes for everything to breakdown as Jelly
Roll and Randy Orton talk some shit to Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre. Then Cody
Rhodes will psych himself and us up as we gear up for his Street Fight against
John Cena.
I may get a little
late start tonight but I’ll be there for the unofficial watch party at 8pm PDT.
Make yourselves comfortable and let’s have a good time.
See You in a Bit,
-Nicole Alexis
