SmackDown Does Its Job and Follows RAW's Lead to Elimination Chamber...
How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?
Happy Friday. I
took it easy today and I’ll take it easier soon but first let’s take
a look at what’s going on in the Wrestling World. Something always is but that
doesn’t guarantee my interest. That’s neither good nor bad, simply the state of
affairs. So, with that let’s take a brief look at what does and get on with our
lives.
In the Realm of AEW, the “feud of the century” continues to percolate as Jon Moxley proceeds to battle any and all Don Callis Family takers for a shot at the Continental Championship. The week’s Dynamite offered up a face-off between Our Man Moxley and this old school brute in Mark Davis. It felt like 1985 seeing him. He’s just a big, burly dude. He’s half a mess and mean. Didn’t know they made ‘em like that anymore. Looks like someone’s big scruffy dad after a few beers and sitting on the couch, ready wrassle. Well, he did plenty to put a dent in Moxley and half did it too but in the end, Mox prevailed.
Later in the
show, Mox and the Riders of Death called out the Callis Family. Saying if
they want more, they can find them at this week’s Collision. Callis &
Co. happily obliged in turn while they beat up some unsuspecting types backstage.
Moxley called out Konosuke Takeshita specifically since they still have
unfinished business. That appears to be scheduled to get settled as well and
this time around there will be no time limits. They’ll go until they can’t go
no more, apparently. So, it was Callis who spoke on Takeshita’s behalf. He even
got in on the stomping out fun too. See, he’s fun π
What’s a little blood on the gators. Happens out in these streets. In any case,
if Mox wants to throwdown again, so be it.
It’s a slow burn
and that’s okay but the Callis Family have to start ramping things up. Not this
week per se but they have to start getting under the Riders’ skin. Right now,
they just look like the resident bullies but when it comes to the Riders,
things have to start to get personal to make it interesting. Yet, that doesn’t
have to be anything major just yet. The point is that Mox is walking his
version of the High Road at present and the drama builds when that resolve gets
challenged. The Callis Family have to start chipping away at it. It’s a little
too soon for the Future but at some point around Summertime perhaps, they need
to start making it hard for Mox to do the “right thing”. It shouldn’t be anything
major to start but over time they’re going to have to have more fun grinding his
gears.
Takeshita seems
a bit too much of a gentleman for that but Josh Alexander seems game. Not sure
how serious I take him but he’s got decent intensity in the promos. And the
Callis Family is huge so, we’ll see who understands the assignment. Let them
just focus on putting on good matches for now. No one should really see the
Future coming.
As for the WWE
Universe, some trademarks got filed and there’s talk of elevating Pat McAfee to
“Sylvester Stallone” status but I don’t know how that’s supposed to happen. He
enunciates too well and is no “wiseguy”. Not sure what that’s supposed to even
mean. Guess we’ll see…or not.
Nevertheless,
for tonight’s SmackDown they continue to prepare for Elimination Chamber.
Oba Femi will try not to put Kit Wilson in the hospital. Ilja Dragunov will try
on part time Juggalo, Tama Tonga for size. Rhea Ripley will see what Giulia’s
got. And the Qualifying Matches continue. The Ladies will see Charlotte Flair,
Kiana James and Nia Jax going for it while Carmelo Hayes, Damian Priest and
Trick Williams throwdown. I heard that Drew McIntyre will probably show up
pissed about something but that has yet to be confirmed. We’ll see for ourselves
soon enough.
I don’t have to
cook today so, I’ll be nice and comfy come showtime. I suggest you do the same
if you have no chores for the evening. It’s Friday night and that’s reason enough
to enjoy it. You know where to find me.
See You in a
Bit,
-Nicole
