WrestleMania 42: RAW Fallout...
How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?
How’d you enjoy WrestleMania 42. I liked it! It wasn’t
the best show ever but it was cohesive and generally enjoyable. The IWC, as always,
had plenty to say but the general consensus was that Night 2 was better than
Night 1 though Night 2 seemed to keep to a tighter schedule. We wrapped up
when it was still light out so, guess no complaints if you had work today. Everyone
else was free to fill their night with whatever.
All in all, the former Shield members had a good
showing. Though Seth Rollins didn’t win his match his and GUNTHER’s was match
of Night 1 if you ask me. Yet, Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk lived up to its main
event stature and took match of the weekend. The finish could be called a bit
comical as you had 2 “old guys” trying to outlast the other but Reigns managed
to hang on to victory.
The “surprises” were subtle as it appears Brock
Lesnar called it quits after his clear loss to Oba Femi. You could call it an
unceremonious passing of the torch but we’ll see if it sticks. Most are suspicious
of it but if it holds, it suits Lesnar’s character. He seems the type that
would pack it in if someone “better” did in fact come along. Too old to try to
match it. Time to take up farming full-time. I respect it.
I was prepared to be upset again with Finn BΓ‘lor’s
entrance but it was better. Not close to what I think is possible but I can accept
that they only want to go so far with the concept. I still think it’s a bit of
a cop out but whatever. At least it didn’t look like something slapped together
from Party City.
Regardless, BΓ‘lor did a good job of invoking the spirit
of the Dæmon and stayed in character so, no complaints there but this is why I
want them to go bigger if they’re going to go here. Personally, I wouldn’t have
brought out the Dæmon now. Not without more lead-up. I would have maybe even
kept it a secret. Dominik Mysterio is a good foil but I would have had more “paranormal”
breadcrumbs. BΓ‘lor would have referenced “old memories” that Dom swore only he
and one other knew. Or the lights would start to flicker when BΓ‘lor got
agitated. Electronics suddenly short out. Little things just a few more steps
up from what they’re doing with Danhausen. These little things build the mystique
if properly executed. The point is to make BΓ‘lor “scary”. If BΓ‘lor is gonna
take on bigger guys, he’s gotta have something in his back pocket. A Halloween
costume alone isn’t gonna cut it. He’s gotta get the bigger guys to go, “Uh…no
thank you…” and have them scuttling out of the shot. BΓ‘lor isn’t intimidating as
is but do the hocus pocus right, it’s easier for the big guys to play along. We’ll
see if they ever take it where I know it can go.
Anyway, it’s all over now and we have begin to file
this year’s WrestleMania away with Fallout. Not much is advertised. BΓ‘lor seems
poised to take out those who betrayed him one by one as he’s set to box with JD
McDonagh. Oba Femi will take his place among the WWE annals. Liv Morgan will
gloat a bit as she returns to being Champion. I commend her going make-up free for
her match. She either is also “off her meds” or is making a statement. And
Roman Reigns is here to take his place back upon the throne. Word is that he
will be full-time at least up to SummerSlam. We’ll see if they can make it
interesting. Let’s see if they experiment with “character development”.
We’ll get started at 6:30pm PDT then we can take a
break. It’s been straight wrestling for like 4 days. Time for a little cleanse
but first, one last bit of fun…2 last bits. The last one is on Friday.
