SmackDown Sets the Scene for SNME...
How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?
Happy Friday! Bed
is gonna feel good tonight, I know it. But before that there’s a few things we
can discuss concerning the Wrestling World. Most of it isn’t anything new but
it should give me at least 1,000 words to type so let’s get on with it.
Everyone wants to get to their weekend.
In the Realm of AEW,
the pieces for the Future are being subtly laid. I wouldn’t suspect a thing so
that’s promising. I can see that a clash for Papa Christian and Uncle Edge
could be on the horizon as they have some business with the Riders of Death. Also,
I noticed that the showdown between Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay could
potentially be derailed by Kevin Knight as Omega and Knight are set to box
later in the month. Knight now affiliated with the Don Callis Family could present
an opportunity to “screw” Omega over but as I keep saying, that is not
necessary just something to keep in mind should they want to supplement Omega’s
wrestling lore.
What actually caught
my attention was Ospreay stating that the slated showdown between him and Omega
would be akin to Goku and Vegeta clashing and much of the IWC seems to have
thoughts. I have to say, with so many of us aware of Dragonball Z it is
a bit of a tall claim. For me, the more realistic pairing would be perhaps
Cyclops and his brother Havok boxing. Omega would be Cyclops in this case.
This is the sort of
thing I don’t know what to do about when it comes to Ospreay. I understand his
desire to be “big time” but I feel he has to be more grounded at times. I don’t
think as many people care as he thinks. He’s a great pro-wrestler. Now, that he’s
dropping the “numbered canvas” I can tolerate his matches but that’s what I
mean. If you’ve ever seen DBZ you know how batshit and over the top those
battles go and they last for months. Epic almost doesn’t suffice to explain so
to compare himself to let’s say, Goku just ‘cause he built himself from nothing
and whatnot seems a bit much so to speak. This guy needs to proceed with a bit
of humility. However, if that is a sprinkling of foreshadowing for a Heel Turn,
then he can be Vegeta and this is suddenly okay ‘cause Vegeta would think
himself great. Guess we’ll see.
Over in the WWE
Universe, we’re hearing some old songs as there’s word that Creative is having
trouble coming up with ideas. Bron Breakker allegedly has some concerns about
his direction and after pursuing Jordan Grace, they now have nothing for her.
Tsk-tsk-tsk. With TKO/WWE releasing people, I hope Creative gets the hint that
they are not exempt. The job is to figure out what to do with the roster, despite
general interest levels. If they want to mitigate the threat of getting sued,
they have to at least appear to be giving everyone a fair and equal chance
within reason.
Generally speaking,
they need to just get the talent out there so we can see them and they can showcase
why they got the job. Perhaps more #1 Contender multi-player matches need to be
had. Battle Royales and Gauntlet Matches for whatever there is for grabs. And when
someone more popular demands to “jump the line” ‘cause they’ve got some beef
with whomever, they can fight who’s rightfully in line for the shot. Perhaps
there can be more action in “Catering” or in the Locker Room. “Don’t have anything…”
should never be an excuse. In most cases, if one doesn’t have anything to offer
in a job, that’s grounds for dismissal. Why the hell are you here if you aren’t
doing the job?
All I’m getting at
is when the last round of shock dismissals came around, I had ideas. I don’t even
do this for a living and I have ideas. What is the problem? Get the talent on TV
for our viewing pleasure otherwise I want to hear that Creative was gutted the
next time releases get reported. I’ve voiced this before. There should be too
much to do, not a lack. If there is a lack, these people aren’t creatives and
they need to hire some stat. This company has too many resources for this to be
an excuse. These people need to get to work.
As for the case of Breakker,
many point to Breakker’s injury killing his momentum and the rise of Oba Femi stealing
his thunder. I can somewhat agree. But for me, it’s a bit more obvious than
that. Breakker is a formidable performer but he isn’t that big. He’s well-built
but he isn’t imposing. What he has going for him is that he’s a legacy. I’m thinking
if his brother or cousin, however the other 2nd Generation Steiner
factors joins the roster, his foothold is in the Tag Team Division with him.
You can’t fight the facts. Most don’t want a part of him but there are more
intimidating players. Yet, with the Tag Team Division as it is, House Steiner
could certainly dominate, even if Big Cass and Enzo Amoré return.
I can see the beginnings
of this with the return of Bronson Reed. The New Vision is looking a little…shaky
with Paul Heyman seeming to wash his hands of them. Heyman, true to character,
only follows the big fish and these guys are looking like tilapia or Swai. It’s
no surprise he’s going back to Brock Lesnar and will probably try to court Femi
in time. The New Vision will have to prove resourceful to remain relevant. We’ll
see what they come up with.
On the subject of
Grace, she’s buff but little. That’s kinda why she’s so thick, she’s stocky. People
like Iyo Sky too much to have Grace throttle her around and Alexa Bliss is
kinda the same diff. Yet, Grace is a little powerhouse so I would suggest that
she just get more chances to demonstrate that. Players like Tiffany Stratton could
underestimate her. The ladies of the Judgment Day could do the same and bully
her. when push comes to shove, they should get shoved with authority. Besides,
there is a market for ladies such as Grace. That should be touched on but not
exactly exploited. This would be a situation where it would behoove them to be
coy, in my honest opinion. Regardless, what shouldn’t happen is nothing. There’s
plenty that can be done. Creative needs to go ahead and create.
And so, we’ll see
if this point is getting across with tonight’s SmackDown. Not much is
advertised but there’s less time to work with. However, we can expect to see
Finn Bálor once again play DavÃd to Talla Tonga’s Goliath this time around. Cody Rhodes will
have to swallow some pride and team with CM Punk for tomorrow’s Saturday Night:
Main Event so they can take on GUNTHER and Sami Zayn. And speaking of Gunther,
does he get punished for taking out Nick Aldis last week? All this and more at
8pm PDT.
I just have to stick
dinner in the oven tonight so I’m sure to be good and settled by go time. I don’t
expect all these problems to be addressed tonight but let’s keep our eyes open
and see if they’re at least working on it. Creative has to earn their paychecks
too. We’ll see if they get on that assignment.
See You in a Bit,
-Nicole Alexis
