RAW Has HIAC Fallout...

Happy Monday, Enthusiasts!

Well, Hell in a Cell has come and went and it was a well-executed show. Their low points were to be expected. MVP did what he could against Bobby Lashley with the help of Omos but Cedric Alexander fumbled things again. Then MadCap Moss did all that he could to get some traction, but Baron Corbin’s bad attitude may have outshined him anyway. Even so, these matches entertained enough to say HIAC was a success but that doesn’t mean some things couldn’t be improved.

Before I get into all that, let me just give honorable mention to the Ladies, Asuka, Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch. They performed admirably and went out there and earned their paychecks. Nothing to be ashamed of. Belair retained because she’s the new kid but after that, I say it should be anyone’s title to take. As long as the winner can maintain an entertaining reign, it’s theirs for the taking. I think that should be the motivation going forward. You can’t just have the title. You have to have the title and make having it interesting. If you can’t make your reign a good time, don’t expect to get it. Or at least, don’t expect to keep it long.

Honorable mention also goes to Judgment Day and Finn Bálor, Liv Morgan and AJ Styles. They joined forces and put on a really fun match. That was the assignment and they understood it completely. Good job! That’s the way it should be for the time being. Don’t overcomplicate things. Just nail the assignment. Have the match. Entertain the onlookers. The details can be finessed later. Right now, just make sure that show is well-performed.

As for Cody Rhodes’ valiant effort, I respect that he did what he had to do. Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins was properly hyped up that if he didn’t compete, it would have been a huge disappointment. Yet, that says a lot about WWE. I’m glad Rhodes earned his street-cred but no one should have to do it that way ever again.

Seeing the extent of Rhodes’ injury made it clear why in Theater there are understudies. Of course you want to see stars in the leading roles, that is why you shell out the money but sometimes, shit happens. The star can fall ill. Get detained by weather or breakdown, something. There’s always someone waiting in the wings who knows the lines. WWE should have had someone just as solid ready to go. It shouldn’t have been an old legend either. The one thing WWE does not lack is talent. Randy Orton could have been called off his vacay if he was in the States. Drew McIntyre should have been ready to go if he’s serious about making a bona fide name for himself. Ricochet could have pulled a Dolph Ziggler and put himself officially on the map. Maybe Bálor or Styles could have pulled double-duty. Any of that would have sufficed and I would have preferred it to playing Rhodes in his condition.

Nevertheless, Rhodes assures everyone that his decision to perform was just that, his decision to perform. That I will respect him for but I don’t think he needs to do that to himself. He was doing similar things on AEW in the beginning. Taking unnecessary chair shots resulting in needing staples and what not. A part of him seems to believe that he has to suffer for the game. I don’t think it should be that serious. We generally want our performers to work another day. No one wants anyone killing themselves for this stuff. It’s just not that important. Moments like this should be the “opportunity” someone up and coming waits/hopes for. Just a chance to prove s/he is ready for the big time. I hope that’s how these sorts of “upsets” are handled in the future. If someone’s seriously injured, let them recover. Send the call to the locker room for someone to save the day. WWE needs new stars anyway. Let them make themselves when the opportunity arises.

In any case, that brings us to RAW’s Hell in a Cell Fallout Show. I hear Rhodes will come out to tell us what his future holds. Rollins will probably do more or less the same. Belair will strut around some still champion and Lashley may start to set his sights on the Unified Title, especially since Roman Reigns feels he can follow in Brock Lesnar’s footsteps and sit on it at will. WWE gave itself a bit of an opening entertainment wise. Let’s see if they actually make use of some of it or drop the ball per usual. Funny tweets and Likes get retweeted. Don’t hurt yourselves out there.

See You in a Bit,
