SmackDown Hands John Cena His Flowers...
How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?
Enjoying this Friday? I’ve had better and I’ve had worse so
there will be no complaints from me. As for the Wrestling World, there’s not
that much going on so this shouldn’t be that long of a post but I got a few
things to chat about so, let’s get into it.
First, allow me to restate my thoughts on the Paramount
“hostile” counter-bid to Netflix’s offer to acquire Warner Bros./Discovery. I
looked into what this means exactly and apparently, the “hostile” side of it is
that Paramount is essentially going over WB’s head and attempting to cut a deal
with the shareholders directly. From what I gathered, this is kind of hit or
miss but makes it clear that Paramount does mean business and pledges to give
the shareholders a better deal if they opt to side with them.
I still don’t know if that changes anything but to me, it seems
that Paramount is hoping the shareholders are more swayed by greed than
principle. Not sure it’s the best strategy but we’ll see if they get any
traction. I have a Paramount+ subscription as well as Netflix so, in that sense
I’m covered but my vote remains for Netflix.
As for the Wrestling World, in the Realm of AEW the Continental
Classic continues and it looks like Jon Moxley took a little break so that
Daniel Garcia and Wheeler Yuta could get some facetime this week. Yet, when it came
to the in-ring action, it was Mike “Speedball” Bailey and this Kyle Fletcher
dude I’ve been hearing about that took the cake. They had a stellar match that
Bailey won in a shocker. It could have gone either way but I was quietly
rooting for Bailey. His throwback charm has done its work on me, I’ll admit.
Yet, I didn’t mind Fletcher either. I see why he’s getting some attention. Both
were skilled and dramatic, which are key elements of performance in this
business. I wish them both well. That match was a lot of fun as well as
technical so can’t even complain.
And so, that brings us to tonight’s SmackDown. The WWE
Universe will say its final good-byes to John Cena though, word is that he’ll
be back a few more times before he hangs it up for good. Along with that, we
can expect to see Tommaso Ciampa finally get his shot at the US Championship as
he battles Ilja Dragunov. Alexa Bliss will get a look at Lash Legend’s chops as
Bliss plays “Davida” to Legend’s “Golitha”. We have a seductive Mixed Tag Match
as Rhea Ripley & Damian Priest take on Zelina Vega & Aleister Black.
And probably to open, Cody Rhodes will make his public address as he prepares
to take on NXT’s Oba Femi tomorrow night for the Saturday Night: Main Event.
I’ll have the post up for the SNME tomorrow afternoon before the
show. I hear they’ll let it go as long as it takes since it’s Cena’s swan song.
I believe the show starts at 4pm PST but the festivities will get going before
that so I’ll probably start watching early. I’ll be settled in for SmackDown
at 8pm PST tonight, per usual. Go ahead and get the popcorn ready if you’re
set to do the same.
See You in a Bit,
-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
