SmackDown Wishes Us a Happy New Year...
How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?
Happy New Year! Have no idea what to expect for this one but I have a few reasons to be optimistic. In the meantime, let’s take a little look at what’s going on in the Wrestling World. It’s not much but there’s a few things to talk about. Let’s get into it.
Over in the Realm of AEW, many are trying to wrap their heads around Jon Moxley being a Face. It does appear that the Callis Family is assuming the primary Heel Faction designation and most feel that the Riders of Death in general are still Heels which sets the scene for them turning on Mox at some point but I’m not sure if that’s what the endgame actually is.
As of now, Mox appears to be facing some “Karma” more than anything else. As he may have bullied others previously to “make a point” opponents aren’t feeling any restraint to do whatever necessary to get the W. This week, it was Josh Alexander who tried his hand at getting a chance at taking the Continental Championship off Mox’s hands but came up short, which was no surprise. Now, we see if Shelton Benjamin has any better luck next week.
As for the Future, the slow burn doesn’t hurt. This “experiment” also doesn’t prove as entertaining so far. That’s often the rub of the Protagonist in pro-wrestling. They are often boring, which Mox doesn’t usually tend to be in my opinion. I know there are plenty who beg to differ but to me, he’s always a lot of fun when he’s at about a 7-8. That’s hard to maintain so, I don’t expect him to always rev at those RPMs but him at a 3-4 makes me think he’s running on empty or something. Yet, if the Future is in play (it should be 'cause I doubt they have any better ideas), then that’s fine for now. Shit shouldn’t start to get nuts until the summer and hopefully all our key players stay healthy. Let the man pace himself. We shall see how the Future manifests.
Over in the WWE Universe, things are relatively quiet. We’re gearing up for the Netflix debut anniversary next week and then the Saudi Royal Rumble after that. Kinda of a mixed bag but what are you gonna do? I believe we’re back to a 3-hour SmackDown for the time being tonight as well so prepare to get nice and comfortable this evening. For our entertainment we can expect to see the Ladies have a 8-Woman Tag as the Faces in Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair, Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky take on the resident baddies in Asuka, Nia Jax, Lash Legend and Kairi Sane. Crazy faces Camp as Giulia bids to relieve Chelsea Green of the United States Championship. Aleister Black and Damian Priest attempt to settle things once and for all in an Ambulance Match. And Drew McIntyre will describe to us all the ways he’ll punish Cody Rhodes in their 3 Stages of Hell Match whenever that goes down.
I’ll be nice and cozy come 8pm PST tonight as we close the Holidays and clear our heads for this year to come. I hope everyone had a great holiday season. Let’s blow it out one last time and then get back to work.
See You in a Bit,
-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
