That Was Fun but SmackDown Tends to Crack the Whip....
How’s It Going, Enthusiasts!
So, it appears that Roman Reigns has returned and with him, the
potential reunification of the SHIELD. I
don’t have a real problem with this, if this is done in an entertaining
fashion. The thing about a faction like
the SHIELD is as long as Dean Ambrose, Reigns and Seth Rollins are actively on
the roster, there’s always potential for a break-up or reunion. It’s one of the age old WWE adages. A team/faction can disband or reform at any
given time. What the WWE has to start
doing is making sure the “given time” makes sense and advances some sort of
storyline. It can’t be too random,
though we don’t put it past them, but ultimately if they want to keep people interested,
the formulation or disbanding has to be for some discernible, plausible
reason. It looks like RAW may be gathering the likes of Baron
Corbin, Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley and possibly Elias together to create some
Council of Doom but we’ll see how that develops. Again, though Reigns is back, We the Audience
will be looking to see if routines fall back to normal in terms of lazy booking
and needlessly outlandish action. If
this new and improved “McMahon Era” is in effect, we would hope it to continue with
or without Roman Reigns. We’ll see if
they keep things interesting.
On another note, the other highlight was the “surprise” return of
David Batista. He so rudely spoiled Ric
Flair’s birthday celebration, baiting Triple H to come to the rescue. I found this bit of drama very intriguing
because the WWE appears to be actually storytelling here. Not just throwing some dumb segment together
but actually plotting a course for us to follow. I hear that Batista is getting set up for a
match against Triple H at WrestleMania.
I’m fine with it as long as these gentlemen remain predominantly
clothed. I know that they stay in shape
but that doesn’t hide their ages.
Batista is pushing 50 and H has been over 50 for a minute and regardless
of how good of shape they’re in, it shows.
I would like to suggest the more mature veterans opt for some sort of
wrestling pant if they’re to do live battle.
A tank shirt or top of sort could be optional but they should be out there
respectably. No need to be out there
naked if they’re 475. Even if they’re in
good shape, the skin just tells the tale.
Who likes watching their Dad or uncle naked? Just saying.
I know we need to be body positive and all but this is more a matter of
modesty in my opinion. Let’s not lie and
treat them as if they’re heartthrobs.
Perhaps in their day but let the men age gracefully.
In any case, that brings us to tonight’s SmackDown which should be
engaging. We have a fitting match set
for Cesaro and Johnny Gargano. Fitting
since these fellows are known for their technical skill. We’ll see if they do in fact put on a
clinic. Also, Daniel Bryan and Kofi
Kingston will sit down for the contract signing of their monumental match for
FastLane. This actually has some buzz because
how the match will go is hard to call.
You’d think with Bryan being a heel and Kingston’s momentum in
overdrive, it should probably be Kingston who finally claims a title but it’s
just hard to say. I’ll say this, if
Kingston doesn’t win, hopefully he can be put in line for the US Title or
something. Maybe try again in a few
months or a year. We’ll see. Also, we’ll get to see Rusev & Shinsuke
Nakamura box it out with the newcomers in Aleister Black & Ricochet. If I’m reading these guys right, I get the
feeling that Black and Ricochet will probably end up on RAW and Gargano and
Tommasa Ciampa get SmackDown but I could be wrong. Hear they may table the Brand Split thing
when they move SmackDown over to Fox but that is all still to be determined. In
the meantime, we’ll see if they give anything to talk about. Funny tweets get retweeted and as for
Likes/Favorites, let us observe before we come to any distinct conclusions,
shall we?
See You in a Bit,
