RAW Reminds Us that the Royal Rumble Is Coming...
Happy Monday, Enthusiasts.
I hope it’s one you get to enjoy.
Not everyone gets today off so take advantage of it if you can. As for what’s
going on in the Wrestling World, well not much change from last week so I won’t
have that much to say but there are few things we can chat about so lets get
into it.
So, the news that has most people
sniffing around still concerns the return of Mr. Vince McMahon. Word is that he’s
slowly but surely making his presence known but as far as everyone is saying,
he’s staying out of Creative. The thing everyone is afraid of is his return to
Creative. Would he get back in there just despite general consensus?
Like I said last post, I wouldn’t
worry about it unless the content starts to decline. Triple H has been keeping
more or less to the old format but when it comes to the more popular stars, he’s
been adding a little intrigue, more than I’m used to seeing so I’m not worried
just yet. However, what they have to guard against is forgetting the wrestling
in favor of story/drama. That was kinda the problem back at the beginning of
the 2000’s. It’s the main reason I lost interest. South Park touched on
this too. It did start to get too soap opera-y and like I’ve said, this is some
real “side piece” entertainment. No one is trying to put a ring on it so if WWE
content ever needs us to pay attention at a more in depth level, they shouldn’t
be surprised if they lose some interest.
If that sort of thing starts to
happen, I wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised when Mr. McMahon comes in to
dumb it down. Some fans may relish it but most casual types wouldn’t want to
hang around. They’ll wait for the next season of Heels instead. They’ll
watch the series but we come to the live show for the action. As long as it’s
fun, easy to watch and follow, there shouldn’t be a problem.
In other news, the general
sentiment is that no one is surprised that Mercedes Moné/Sasha Banks didn’t find
a compromise with WWE or opt for AEW. There seems to be a sentiment that Moné
definitely has her thoughts on how she should be handled as a performer and not
everyone is sure she’s being realistic. That’s the polite way of saying it, I’m
thinking. I kinda feel the same way. Not that I have any problem with Moné it’s
just as popular and respectable as she is as a performer, I was never that
impressed. That has more to do with her stature. Seeing how she’s 45-50lbs, it’s
generally difficult for me to take her seriously because I get the feeling she
could be picked up by the scruff and put somewhere. That’s not her fault. She
can’t help being petite but in a industry that hinges on how “tough” you are, she’s
going to have to face she isn’t always going to be taken seriously, especially
by new fans who don’t know her.
She’s not especially acrobatic or flashy
in the ring. Her presentation is “showy” but again, probably to make up for the
small stature. So, if she wants to “become a star” it would take something else
to get her over, so to speak. Yet, I feel with her dabbling in the
Entertainment Industry she’ll get faced with the truth sooner than later. Once
she has that point blank intel, she’ll have a better sense of how to proceed. I
think WWE is the best place for her but if she feels she’s “bigger” than she
is, there may be some problems, more than likely for her than WWE. We shall see.
So, that more or less brings us to
tonight’s RAW. SmackDown
left us with plenty to think about regarding Sami Zayn’s place in the
Bloodline. I’m not expecting much outside of recap on RAW but you never
know. Zayn may have some words about it backstage. Bobby Lashley is debating a revival
of the Hurt Business and the Judgment Day have earned #1 Contender status for
the Tag Team Championships so we’ll see how that will advance.
The Royal Rumble is next Saturday
so, we can anticipate more setup. Probably some more qualifying matches and
people proclaiming their entry. Tis the season. Let’s stick to what they show
us for a while as opposed to worry about what ifs. Start worrying if the
content starts to slip. There will be hits and misses, naturally, but if it
starts to consistently suck again, then you can start to get antsy. Don’t take
yourself there without the proof.
See You in a Bit,
-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
