Clash at the Castle - RAW Fallout...
A Merry Monday to You, Enthusiasts!
I know that for many
this was kind of a “typical Monday” as I ran into some mishaps out and about town.
Did you? Anything go haywire at work? Pass a fender bender on the way home?
Yeah, it seems like that kinda day. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s
a bad one, at least not for us who avoided the mishap. As for the Wrestling
World, well you know what we’re gonna talk about. You ready? Let’s go.
So, Clash at the Castle
came and went and I’m not sure how the Scots will take this one. I think they
may have conflicted feelings after it’s all said and done. They got one with
the Women’s Tag Team Championship but the other matches with Piper Niven and
Drew McIntyre could have been read as cruel teases. If WWE is not careful, they’ll
make Glasgow the international “Philadelphia”, if you get my drift.
However, if WWE has
a long-term game plan, this could be forgiven in time. Regardless, it was a
good PPV/PLE. I also liked how a dash of realism was added with the ropes
proving a bit tricky for everyone last Saturday evening. I appreciate how McIntyre
took advantage of his “good luck” when Damian Priest got caught up in them.
That’s exactly what should happen.
I believe, depending
on when mishaps happen, something like that should allow for a “shoot” if it happens
at a pivotal moment. If the match is towards the end and someone trips up in
whatever way and they’re supposed to be the winner, it’s a chance for the
opponent to pull off a surprise victory. The element of surprise is what’s cool
here. We all know the game is rigged but the true “game” is making people
forget. Little moments of realism remind us that anything can happen and if it
changes the script, so be it. Maybe what’s written isn’t so great anyway? Magic
does lie in spontaneity. WWE should be willing to let it happen whenever it
can. If it hits a dead end, there are ways to double back. None of us are impervious
to the workings of real life.
As for Match of the
Night, most agree that the opener with AJ Styles and Cody Rhodes was the best exchange.
McIntyre and Priest take a not too distant 2nd Place and in a near
tie for 2nd, the Ladies’ Tag Team Championship. I have to say the Tag
Team Championship was more interesting than I would have ever anticipated which
is sincere praise for these women. Some commentators are still harping on Jade
Cargill but she appears to be improving so, that’s something. I think she handled
the slip off the ropes as best she could and hopefully it instilled a healthy
dose of humility as well. Our players can lose the plot sometimes with the trappings
of fame and fortune. Honest mistakes remind everyone we’re human.
In any case, let me just
touch on the main event, as it was a foreseeable heartbreaker for Drew McIntyre
as CM Punk flies across the pond to dash McIntyre’s hopes and dreams on his home
soil. Punk has got a “death wish.” But he wouldn’t be Punk if he didn't so, here
we are. It looks like we have repercussions tonight as McIntyre has decided to “quit”.
Just sick of WWE’s and Punk’s shite. Will it lead to an “after hours” beatdown?
Guess we’ll have to see.
As you know, we have
the Fallout on RAW tonight and so far it looks like Seth Rollins is back
in the mix. As for in ring action, we can expect Iyo Sky to help us get used to
Kiana James. Dragon Lee will draw a line against Carlito. And we’ll have a Triple
Threat between Finn Bálor, Rey Mysterio and Jey Uso for qualifying for next
month’s Money in the Bank. We’ll also hear from the retaining Champion in
Damian Priest. Spoilers speak of many other tidbits but I’ll wait and watch.
Starts now anyway.
See You Soon,
-Nicole Alexis
