All Appears Quiet. SmackDown Follows RAW's Lead to Night of Champions...
How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?
Happy Juneteenth! Not
exactly sure how to properly celebrate just yet but you know, show your humanitarian
side and just try to educate yourself. Always a good start. As for the Wrestling
World, there’s nothing too crazy going on but I have a few things I can speak
on. Shouldn’t take too long. Ready? Here we go.
Over in the Realm of
AEW, things appear to be moving along nicely. MJF and Don Callis continue to
establish themselves and are appropriately unconcerned with the Future. Too busy
doing what they do best apparently which is all find and good. It’s exactly
what they should be doing.
I caught the big old
12-Man-Tag that seemed to be set to put that onery Mark Briscoe in his place. I’d
say the best spot was between Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita. Fletcher is
more technical but I appreciate Takeshita’s realistic style and they have good
chemistry so, they won if you ask me 😉
Meanwhile the Riders
of Death had some business with Brody King and Mistico. King would be far more
interesting if he ever gets himself in shape. At present, he’s just benefitting
from being a big ole dude but you figure the sky’s the limit if he just trimmed
up. Mistico proved to be a high energy performer and it wasn’t all that much of
a surprise that they got the win over the pairing of Jon Moxley and Daniel
Garcia.
However, I noticed
how Garcia is beginning to pick up Mox’s “bad habits” as he’s starting to bite
people on the face. Tsk-tsk-tsk. They just don’t care about tetanus shots, do
they. Regardless, this was less the point as it was to back up Will Ospreay
later in the show.
Ospreay seems set to
face Swerve Strickland at Forbidden Door next weekend and Strickland is
noticing a difference in Ospreay. I’m not so sure I’m really seeing it. Yet, I
see what he means. The only critique I can give is that I feel Ospreay needs to
get wittier when shouting out to his new bride, Alex Windsor. The way he acknowledges
her sounds best left for the pub. I don’t need to hear about how he rightly “smashed
her” to consummate the union. That’s definitely something some wanker would say.
Besides that, I think
Strickland has the upper hand going into their bout. Yet, the Riders of Death
made their presence felt when Strickland opted to bring out the chains when he
managed to set Ospreay off. Can’t say what the endgame is here but we’ll see if
it has anything to do with the Future. It doesn’t have to and it doesn’t not
have to either. We’ll leave them to it. All I’ll say is that what I’m seeing so
far, isn’t more interesting than the Future, so if they’re going to go in a
different direction, it should be equal to or greater than the Future. Otherwise,
have fun psyching everyone out.
Over in the WWE Universe
or the outskirts thereof, we got an interesting chime in from
Ryback recently. He surprisingly had a mature and respectable take on the flak
Roman Reigns has been mildly getting for making an appearance at the White
House UFC event. He basically said the man is one of the most professional
backstage and shouldn’t be condemned for attending what could be called a
company event. It’s no indication of his character.
I didn’t even have to
know his personal take, my point was the fact this could be called business,
but Ryback’s point is not diminished for it. He’s right. I don’t know why
everyone got their panties in a bunch. It’s not a good look but at the same
time who cares. Cody Rhodes wasn’t going to do it. Someone had to. Give him
points for sucking it up and going. You’re entitled to dislike this
administration. I think it’s crap too. I didn’t vote for it but it is what it
is. People gotta do what they gotta do. Wait for something more substantial to
get bent out of shape about. I’ll bitch when he’s preaching MAGA rhetoric and
only if it’s not on a WWE affiliated show. Otherwise, he’s trolling in
character and we’re supposed to hate him for it.
All right, onto tonight’s
show. For SmackDown, we can expect more set-up for Night of Champions. Interesting
how that an Iran deal was cut just in time. It’s good to have friends in high
places. In any case, we have for our viewing pleasure, Carmelo Hayes and Ricky
Saints for what…round 4? Only this time the stakes are #1 Contender for the US
Championship that Trick Williams currently holds. The MFT Juggalos Talla &
Tama Tonga will take on R-Truth and Damian Priest for the Tag Team Championships.
Guess Truth is cleared to wrassle. Jey Uso will see if he can keep Je’Von Evans
on the ground in an effort to get stomped out by Oba Femi at King of the Ring.
For the Ladies, it’s Charlotte Flair up against Liv Morgan for the Queen of the
Ring semifinal. Either lady can win there. And it looks like to open, we’ll
have a commercial free Championship Match between GUNTHER and Cody Rhodes. Sami
Zayn will be the guest referee and that’s gotta factor somehow. We’ll see which
version of Zayn prevails.
It’s pizza for dinner
for tonight so I’ll be set and ready to go. If you’re staying in, you’re always
welcome to swing by and enjoy the show. It’s one of the reasons I love Fridays.
See You in a Bit,
-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
