SmackDown Tries to Stay Positive Ahead of the Royal Rumble...

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts? This is kind of a bizarre and upsetting week. A lot of mishaps and accidents in the news. As many of you know, the Wrestling World was not spared. Let’s chat a bit about what’s going on. First off, sincere condolences to the family of Jay Briscoe. I didn’t see much of The Briscoes but I definitely heard of them and they seemed like a lot of fun. I know the homophobic statements that they made a few years ago have haunted them recently but they seemed to get the point of wrasslin’ and tag-teaming.  Briscoe died in a car accident and the kicker is that he apparently wasn’t wearing his seatbelt. We can’t help but feel if he had just taken that precaution, he may have survived. No doubt he’d be banged up but alive. It sounds like his daughters are still hospitalized but they are in stable condition thankfully. Such a shame. It goes to remind you that there is no guarantee that any of us will live one moment longer. Enjoy all the time that you have. Let your lov

Happy Monday, Enthusiasts.   I hope it’s one you get to enjoy. Not everyone gets today off so take advantage of it if you can. As for what’s going on in the Wrestling World, well not much change from last week so I won’t have that much to say but there are few things we can chat about so lets get into it.   So, the news that has most people sniffing around still concerns the return of Mr. Vince McMahon. Word is that he’s slowly but surely making his presence known but as far as everyone is saying, he’s staying out of Creative. The thing everyone is afraid of is his return to Creative. Would he get back in there just despite general consensus?   Like I said last post, I wouldn’t worry about it unless the content starts to decline. Triple H has been keeping more or less to the old format but when it comes to the more popular stars, he’s been adding a little intrigue, more than I’m used to seeing so I’m not worried just yet. However, what they have to guard against is forgetti

Happy Friday, Enthusiasts! Did the week treat you well? I have to say, it had some ups and downs but in terms of ups and downs, they were relatively trivial so I won’t complain.  As for the Wrestling World, there’s a lot of stuff circulating through the grapevine but I’ll just pick a few of the more prominent points to chat about. Shall we? So, there are some peripheral rumblings going on that I’m going to start with. First, Ric Flair is out giving his 2¢ on Vince Russo and Seth Rollins on his podcast recently. Well, what he’s saying isn’t exactly new but it keeps the conversation going, so to speak. He doesn’t care much for what Russo has to say. Russo is clinging on to relevance any way he can in Flair’s opinion. As for Rollins, well, he can’t hate a man for siding with his wife but in Flair’s opinion, Rollins has to get over the whole “The Man” thing. I think Flair should too, to be honest.  Most of us know who Ric Flair is for sure, but most of us are too young to remember his gl

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?   Going well? I sure hope so. This is actually a good Friday so far so, let’s see if we can keep it going. Let’s get into what’s going around the wrestling world.   The first topic of interest is this Dan Hausen guy…or is it supposed to be “DanHausen”? AEW has acquired him and I, like many, don’t get him and not sure I’ll take the time to. I’m going to date myself here, but he reminds me of some offshoot of Man Servant Hecubus from Kids in the Hall, very un-terrifyingly evil. I’m not sure if he charms the same but I do recognize that comedy is his game. We’ll see if he puts out some good matches. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt in that case.   On the outskirts of the WWE Universe, there’s some talk going around that WWE reached out to Jeff Hardy to reclaim him. Word also is that Hardy basically said go to hell and show me my drug test results. The feeling is that they should be negative. Well, I suggested that it might have been tummy tr

A Good Monday to You, Enthusiasts,   The wrestling world has some grumblings making the rounds. Let us chat about it for a bit. What else would we do 😉   So, #FreeAli is a thing now and the pseudo-Kaepernick vibes with it. It’s drumming up talk. Commenters have plenty to say but I’m not sure where this all goes. Does Ali become some sort of activist from here on out? Does he find a place at AEW? Somewhere else? Or does WWE give him a valid shot, quieting all naysayers? I really don’t know. Whatever happens, I just hope that it's fair. I’ve already said that WWE shouldn’t hold on to him if they have no plans for him. Ali has been vocal and proactive in getting on TV and performing palatable content. You can’t say he wasn’t trying to work with WWE. WWE doesn’t need to look petty right now. It generally has to counter a lot of bad press. They need to either let Ali go with a healthy severance and minimal non-compete or they give him a fair push and see where it goes. WWE want

Happy Friday, Enthusiasts!   I hope you all are doing well. So, there’s a bit to talk about at the end of the week, isn’t there. Let’s not dally and get right to it.   The first blip on the radar is the return of Jon Moxley. Fitting how he returns just as Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins prepare to do battle at the Royal Rumble. One thing that is for sure is that the enigma that was The Shield is still alive and well. Reports have already shot down Moxley making an appearance for the Rumble, but his first match back is scheduled for tonight’s Rampage . I’m not sure what to think or feel just yet. We’ll see how the fresh and clean version of Mox works out. Not that I think anyone needs to be on the sauce but people like the We don’t often care for “sanitizing” or “cleaning up” the rough and tumble types. That rough edge tends to be what makes that sort of performer interesting. Mox showed us that he’ll always be able to rock a mic but how has it affected the action in the squared c

A Joyous MLK Day to You, Enthusiasts! A day off in the name of Civil Rights is always appreciated. The wrestling world doesn’t sleep often and though the past few days haven’t been the most riveting, there is some interesting news to chat about. Shall we? So, a bit of news that may raise an eyebrow is that somehow, Cody Rhodes is a free agent. I don’t know if this is more an indication of the looseness of his contract or if he’s more of a general employee that earns a wage. I’m not even sure I should even believe this information as it may be fodder for some AEW storyline.  The timing of it does lend to some speculation as the Royal Rumble is coming up. Could Rhodes be a surprise entrant? Reports circulating say that there is no crossover planned between AEW and WWE but I doubt they’d promote something like that. I would think they’d like to keep that a secret so we’ll see if he shows up on old ground. That could be fun. In the WWE Universe there’s some tension apparently as Mustafa Al

A Good Monday to You, Enthusiasts. How is it treating you this time around? Good? I’ve had better but that’s neither here nor there. A bad one is bound to come up from time to time. Regardless, there is some chatter in the wrestling world. Shall we add a bit to it? So, the Royal Rumble is the big deal this time of year and naturally, we’re seeing who’s making their bid. We have Johnny Knoxville making an appearance and Mickie James is walking through the “Forbidden Door”. There’s also talk that someone else may do the same so naturally everyone has their guesses. For me, I’d offer Kenny Omega just because it seems like the one thing that would never happen. I don’t know where he is in terms of recovery and word on the Social Media is that he’s got some COVID side effects. Makes me think he got the booster or vaccinated. With the Rumble at the end of the month, it’s not impossible but that’s just my long shot.  Some people suggest Miro/Rusev and that would be appropriate to me. His pa

Good Evening, Enthusiasts.   How is this Friday treating you? Well, I hope. So, there are a few things to chat about at the end of this week. Let’s start with the non-WWE stuff first.   So, Rey Fenix had a nasty spill this past Wednesday on AEW’s Dynamite. I caught it online and yeah, poor guy. It’s the kinda thing that comes with the territory. Reports are saying that it’s more a severe dislocation than it is a break but doctors are still assessing the full extent of the damage. Naturally, we all wish him a speedy recovery.   Now, back to the territory I’m more familiar with, there was another list of cuts this week, the most prominent of which being William Regal and Samoa Joe for a second time. I wasn’t familiar with everyone else. I only knew Regal from NXT but I know he had a wrestling career, it was just before my time. And if I did catch him, I don’t remember. As for Joe, well, I think in both these gentlemen’s cases, time was the true culprit. WWE is clearly going

A Fine Beginning of the Week to You Enthusiasts!   Who caught the Royal Rumble? How’d you like it? I know, it wasn’t quite the spectacle we’re used to but I think it was fine, given the circumstances. Generally speaking, I think it went to plan. I was kinda wrong about the switch ups on the singles matches but they did try to keep them entertaining, which I do appreciate. They got Goldberg and McIntyre over and done with right off the bat so, no complaints there. I was right about them just using up the appearances, though. WWE has to know they can only do so much with Goldberg so let the man retire with some dignity.   Carmella and Sasha Banks along with Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns were what they were but I saw the extra effort put in to keep it fresh. Carmella sacrificed herself with a determined suicide dive through the ropes to get her some street-cred. And Reigns running Owens down with the golf cart was hilarious. Though, I would have thought it’d be the other way around

Royal Rumble 2021

A Merry Royal Rumble to You, Enthusiasts!   Are you ready for tonight’s action? You better get in the mood ‘cause it’s all about to go down! There’s too much up in the air to focus on all of it but I will get into some of the speculations going around.   So, personally, I get the feeling that a lot of what’s currently in play will not be valid come Sunday. I just think WWE may be trying to get in front of us and is saying one thing but may end up doing something completely else. I see this for Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens and for Goldberg and Drew McIntyre. For Reigns and Owens I feel they may go this route because this is going to be like the 3 rd showdown in like, 6 weeks. And for Goldberg and McIntyre, no one really wants to see it or at least, no one wants to see Goldberg win. WWE may be setting us up for a bait and switch just to nullify fan disapproval. WWE doesn’t like to lose face, no one does and for the most part, they have to demonstrate that they do in fact know wh

A Good Friday to You Enthusiasts!   How is everyone doing? Good? I hope so. The Royal Rumble is soon upon us and is it me or is the buzz just starting? I remember last year’s. It was practically electric come show-time. I don’t expect that for this year, given everything, but the sense of anticipation is still very strong. It’s probably just tempered by curiosity. There are a lot of loose ends dangling and we’ll see if any of them are addressed come Sunday.   As for the Wrestling Grapevine, there are some stirrings but what caught my eye was some news on Aleister Black. There’s talk that he is still very much a part of the WWE roster but has been given plenty of space to account for the dismissal of Zelina Vega, his wife. An interesting show of tact from WWE, if I may say.   I hope they appreciate what they have in Black. I’m not familiar with his previous incarnation of Tommy End but I have found Black compelling from the start. I like his dark yet approachable way. I hope he’
