DAY 1 - 2024

Happy New Year, Enthusiasts!

Welcome to 2024. Can’t say what it will hold and don’t know how it will compare to last year but here we are. Let’s try to make it a good one. We don’t have anything too earthshattering to open the New Year with but we have enough to have a brief conversation. Shall we?

We’ll start in the Realm of AEW as Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) is no longer listed on their roster. There has been a lot of speculation that MJF already re-signed with AEW but for much of his tenure with the company, he has been professing the “Bidding War of 2024”. His contract supposedly expires this year and the “fight” for his talent has apparently begun. Can we expect an appearance on RAW’s Day 1 show? I wouldn’t hold my breath but it’s not completely outside of the scope of possibility either.

I have nothing against MJF coming over to WWE. It feels like it will happen at some point, I’m just not sure if now is the best time. MJF is still young and youth generally doesn’t go over in WWE. Given its storied history, people have to earn their keep. It takes a good 5-10 years of slanging and being over 30 to get that distinction. It’s kind of like being President, you have to be ≥ 35. The Crowd just doesn’t buy it if you’re too young. What the hell do you know. Doesn’t work quite the same for the women but that’s another conversation. So, I think MJF could hang with AEW until he’s 30 and then hopping over to WWE would be a clear no-brainer but we’ll see what comes to pass.

In the WWE Universe, the big news is the resignation of the long-standing Kevin Dunn. He doesn’t have the best reputation but his contribution to WWE is undeniable. His departure was expected once the merger with UFC was complete and it looks like 2024 will start fresh as the TKO Era takes shape. I don’t have much else to say on the matter as I’ve only heard of Dunn and can’t really comment on the pending implications but since he’s been with WWE for decades, it is something worth mentioning.

And so, that brings us to tonight’s RAW and Day 1. 2024 is getting off to a bumpy start as we begin with an earthquake in Japan and I’m seeing that Giovanni Vinci appeared to have gotten injured in a match tonight. The evening is packed with action as WWE opens the New Year with a big ole BANG! The Creed Brothers’ toughie, Ivy Nile will face Rhea Ripley for the Women’s Title. Cody Rhodes will tell us his plans for 2024. The Judgment Day will welcome the New Year courtesy of Miz TV. Becky Lynch will tag Nia Jax back for breaking her face all those years ago and Seth Rollins will dangle the Heavyweight Title in Drew McIntyre’s face. Will McIntyre grab it? We’ll have to tune in and see.

The unofficial watch party starts at 8pm PST. I do this business on Twitter but you can steal a peak on Threads if that isn’t your bag. I won’t judge.

See You in a Bit,

-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
