SmackDown Go-Home Show - Night of Champions
How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?
The start of the Memorial Day Weekend doing you well? If it doesn’t apply, is Friday at least a good one, especially as it’s close to being over for many of us? I certainly hope all is well. As for the Wrestling World, it’s a slow news day. The key players for WWE are over in Saudi Arabia and AEW is here stateside doing its thing. There are a few tidbits to comment on so, let’s have a brief chat.
In CM Punk news, word is some agreement has been made so Collision is now a “go”. I guess Punk and Tony Khan reached some agreement regarding Steel. Word is Steel will work remotely to appease Punk. So there’s that. It will be interesting to see how the crowd responds. The notion going around that Punk should go heel is not a bad one in this light, but I think it should be more humorous than pointed.
If the media scrum that started all this was in fact a work that missed the mark, it’s because Punk wasn’t being over-the-top enough. He played it too serious and people took him seriously. Missed the joke. He has to do this extravagantly so that we can see he’s being this ridiculous on purpose and then you get the inherent debate, is he or isn’t he? It’s the closest we could get to Hamlet. Is he or is he not “insane”? How are we ever to know when it comes to the Temperamental “Prince” 😉
Over in the WWE Universe, this KSA show is a little different this time around seeing how Sami Zayn is on board for the first time in a long time. He hasn’t been on KSA shows for obvious reasons and Kevin Owens stayed off more due to personal politics. But now that KSA and Syria are calming their tensions, the window to have Zayn perform there has creaked open.
Well, as I’ve stated before, these developments are new and it would be short-sighted to believe all is well but they are stable enough for Zayn to take the trip and it appears to have humbled him given what he has shared on social media. I am glad it’s yielding a pleasant experience. Let’s hope these shows continue to remain incident free.
And so that brings us to tonight’s SmackDown. It was taped last week as everyone is in Saudi Arabia now for tomorrow’s show. I will be traveling tonight and will probably not watch Night of Champions until 5pm PDT on Saturday due to Memorial Day activities so this will be a laid back viewing for me. I’m sure everyone in the United States has similar inclinations so let’s take advantage of the perks of streaming this weekend. If you too have other plans tonight and can make use of a DVR, feel free to join me tonight around the 11 o’clock hour for those residing in California. You can play catch up with me.
See You Later.
