SmackDown Has a Tough Job Ahead of WrestlePalooza...
How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?
Happy Friday! And I suppose, Happy WrestlePalooza Eve
but with all the recent happenings in the media, it’s hard to say how this will
go. There’s some very compelling things going on in the U.S. right now and they
may inadvertently affect the show. Shall we discuss? Here we go.
So, I wasn’t trying to get into the Charlie Kirk
matter but with the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel and his show, Jimmy Kimmel
Live which airs on ABC and is owned by Disney, I feel I should say
something. Given that what Kimmel said was mild if only a little too soon
maybe, I don’t feel he should have been pulled. If the Conservative Right is
going to purport this sense of “Americanism”, they can’t trounce upon the
concept of free speech. That’s the main reason why Kirk shouldn’t have been
killed. The man was the epitome of ignorance but I’ll defend to the end his or anyone’s
right to say what they want to say, even if it is completely idiotic.
There’s a major media deal in the works. The specifics
of which I am not aware of, I just know it’s on-going but naturally, organizations
like Disney want it to go through and they need the government’s (i.e. Donald
Trump’s) approval. And so, those who speak against him risk getting “silenced”.
Now, the conversation of whether this is “American” or not can be debated because
control always hovers close to power and to say that the American Government
has always been honorable seems naΓ―ve at best. However, given the MAGA ideology
of preserving and re-establishing the “American Way”, demonstrations of blatant
censorship goes against some of the very tenets this country was founded on so…way
to contradict yourselves.
Yet, there are some calls to boycott Disney, its subsidiaries
and affiliates which couldn’t have come at a worse time for WWE. I’ve already
subscribed but if you are on the fence and have done the same, try canceling. Most
streaming services want to keep your business so if you start to leave, they’ll
give you a discount if you stay. Disney is no different so you can make yourself
feel better that way.
Nevertheless, we’ll see if this has a trickle-down
effect. Word is that Disney may be relenting in the face of backlash so, this
is not over yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a WWE only tier or something
in the future, though. We know that WWE is an ally of the current administration
but they value money more so, I can see them wanting to disassociate somewhat
if they keep challenging matters of principle and/or morality.
Okay, with all that said, that brings us to tonight’s
SmackDown. What we can expect for
this Go-Home Show is Carmelo Hayes taking Sami Zayn’s United States
Championship challenge. Chelsea Green and Alba Fyre will take another shot at Alexa
Bliss and Charlotte Flair for the Tag Team Championship. We’ll see if the
Contract Signing between Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes remains civil and Brock
Lesnar will be in attendance to make sure things don’t.
I’m cooking tonight but it’s an easy meal so, I shouldn’t
have any problem getting comfortable. You’re free to join the fun if your
evening’s available. I would never force you to do anything.
See You in a Bit,
-Nicole Alexis (^_~)
