Crown Jewel-Perth - Matches of Interest

How’s It Going, Enthusiasts?

Here we are at Crown Jewel-Perth and we’ll see if this is another so-so PPV. Given the timing, it could be but if WWE is planning more comprehensively and aiming for Survivor Series, we could get some tidbits of foreshadowing. A few years ago, I wouldn’t have bothered speculating. They certainly weren’t thinking that far ahead outside of booking the venue but these days, how to lay the groundwork for the future appears to be what these Creative Changes floating around are all about. You all know I’m all for it. But first, what about this Crown Jewel?

It’s not the first show in Perth but it’s the first Crown Jewel to be held in Perth. I suppose this is how WWE plans to incorporate international shows, which I have no problem with. Yet, given the inaugural nature, you’d think there’d be some pizazz to this show.

Well, if it’s to transpire, it will be in what’s not advertised if you ask me. The show is booked solid but I don’t see any matches I’d be dying to see. So, this post will be relatively short but that doesn’t mean we won’t have anything to talk about.

Since there are only 5 matches on the card, I only have 1 match that I’m looking at and that’s AJ Styles vs. John Cena. Now, most would agree that Cena’s Retirement Tour has been kinda lame. We technically only have about 2 months left to close it out so, do they do it with a bang or just hand him a plaque and say, “Thank you for your service…”?

I wouldn’t be surprised either way but what prompts the curiosity is Styles. He too seems to be getting a rawer deal than is deserved. He’s a great worker. Always brings 110% but he’s just not that popular. I’d say he has general respect but he doesn’t capture the audience like a Randy Orton or Lord Seth Rollins or dare I say even a Roman Reigns. However his in-ring prowess is undeniable. He deserves accolades and respect. But it isn’t his retirement party.

Because of this, I think Styles goes down but hopefully honorably so. Cena was the Big Man by taking the L against Brock Lesnar. I don’t know why he’d keep showing up just to keep losing. He’s gonna have to win some so, I think Styles has to be the Big Man here.

If this leads to a Styles heel turn or something, I’m fine with that too. This is Sports Entertainment so, it’s par for the course for this kind of thing being 1 of the surprises to come.

Also, with it being a short card, I think they should let them take their time too. This should be an epic battle because though they may not conjure the most frenzied pop, they are debatably 2 of the best to do it. I hope they both get the respect they deserve out of this. Hopefully, it’s the swan song it ought to be.

I’ll leave it at that. I’m expecting a lot of “interruptions” tomorrow so, what grasps me the most may be something I don’t even know is coming. And again, that is fine. This is entertainment. As long as I’m thoroughly entertained, they’ve won.

There’s also some external intrigue as the deal with ESPN is somewhat in the limelight. ESPN isn’t afraid to hold back and tell it like it is. Will WWE just submit another so-so show and cite that it’s all being saved up for Survivor Series?

Wouldn’t put it past them but the Survivor Series would have to be off the charts to break even at this point. I’m not saying that they can’t do it but if the goal really is forever, overshooting the mark should be unacceptable.

That’s what my blog has basically been about. I love this stuff but if it’s not well-structured, it’s hard to support and validate. That’s why I stay somewhat quiet about my interest. Not everyone cares to understand. Yet, if you can see how the honest pop gets conjured, you can at least see why people enjoy it and right there, I can feel better about it all. What I’m really hoping to see is proof that I can start to feel better about it all.

It’s all been better. I won’t lie but the Future awaits. If it is to manifest, this could be a time to assess how it starts to take shape. From my perspective, I’ll be looking at how all the pieces fit together overall.

Nevertheless, it’s a solid card. We should see good work, regardless of what the future comes to be. Those not mentioned just have to relax and have fun doing their jobs. Manage that, and we’ve all won.

Well, you all know that by the time I get around to it, everything will be all said and done. So, enjoy if you knock it out early and welcome if you prefer an afternoon start. I’ll get things started around 4pm PDT. If you’re willing and able, feel free to stop by. I’m not hard to find.

See You in a Bit,
